  1. Right. If true, such a variance in air pressure among the 12 balls to me would indicate that the integrity of some of the footballs were most likely compromised due to the ball prep and weather conditions during the game. If the balls were tampered with, I would think all of them would be around the same range under. Or at least be at 2 psi under and further or 1 psi and further. You would not have some at a tick under, some under 1 and then one under 2.

Its just as likely the cheater wanted to get out of the bathroom in under 100 seconds. He did with 2 seconds to spare. The 3-4 that were just a tick under, he would just use those last.
  2. I agree - my money is on nothing going on here. This doesn't seem like a risk they'd intentionally take given the marginal potential gain...and I emphatically don't believe that anybody stuck a needle in a bunch of balls after the refs approved them. That makes zero sense. So that's about the only thing I can say with confidence that Wells will NOT find.

Cheating makes sense to a cheater. I mean why do athletes start taking steroids after starting careers in pro sports. They want to be acknowledged as the best. So while cheating makes no sense to you, I've seen it too many times in pro sports to write it off as being nonsensical.

Let's also be real here. It's your favorite team...You Do Not want this to be true. You should reevaluate based on that, if it's possible. Think about it, most of America thinks they did it.

  3. A lot of reports are saying only one ball was 2psi under. Rapaport said 6-8 balls were at around 1psi to just a tick under. The 2-4 balls that aren't mentioned would seem to be between 1psi and 2psi, or Rapaport would have included them when he mentioned the other 6-8 balls.

  4. *sigh*

Because it was handed to him by an NFL official, who has since been fired . This has been covered ad nauseum.

But he knew the rules for the balls. Why give them one that isn't marked? Why didn't he say, "Umm, thanks for the ball but they won't use it, because it's not a K ball.". Or "Hey what're you trying to pull here? This isn't an official ball."
  5. I think they have a vault where there are tanks of Bill Parcell's flatulence stored...they inflate the balls with it, then they magically deflate.

In all seriousness, I believe there are only 2 realistic possibilities as to what happened here:

    1) Nothing whatsoever

    2) They figured out some way to treat the balls such that they'd pass the pre-game inspection and then soften up as the game went on.

I have said from day 1 (and I believe it now more than ever) that I can't under any circumstances believe that they would be dumb enough to tamper with the balls after the refs had approved them by sticking a needle in them to de-pressurize them. I think that is a more outlandish theory than the "Colts deflated the one ball" theory. I can't see any way that somebody could get away with sticking a needle in a ball (let alone 11 of them) on the sidelines without getting caught on camera doing it.

So what does that leave us with? Neither 1 or 2 above is illegal. You can do whatever you want to the balls as long as the refs measure them within the range and then you don't tamper with them.

There is a 3rd possibility. McNally, who is elderly I guess, let the air out in the 98 seconds that he was in the bathroom.
  6. If that was the case here, then back to the temp science. So then, who guards the backup balls in the officials locker room if all of the officials have already went to the field for the game? And who is in the replay booth if they are taken there? Not that it has any difference as far as temp exposure, but seems to be a lapse of security protocol compared to all of the steps taken before that.

"Jackson does, however, recall one interesting moment during the first half that has something to do with the latest controversy. He recalls, during a television timeout, there was an especially long delay that prompted him to approach an official.

The game official mentioned something about their efforts to locate a usable football. Shortly after, Jackson noticed that the Patriots were using the Colts' footballs late in the first half. Jackson said it was odd to him that New England couldn't find a football to use, especially in the AFC Championship Game."

Somebody got to em', because nobody could find the Patriot balls.

  7. Former ref Jim Daopoulis described the process in this article http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/01/24/expert-explains-protocol-with-nfl-game-balls/fCtQ38pBjBFXId0WJC2wpL/story.html

Q: Who from the team brings the balls to the officials, and does the testing take place in the officials’ locker room?

JD: “The equipment manager will bring a bag of 12 or 24 footballs — it depends on the weather. The backup balls they’ll keep in the locker room or the replay room during the game. But those footballs come directly from each equipment manager in a bag, and once they go into the officials’ locker room, nobody has access to them except for the officials. So nobody can sneak in there and let the air out or put air in or do anything. There’s usually a security guard in there, so the footballs sit in the officials’ locker room for two hours until they go out onto the field

If this is true, I find it weird that the Patriots were using the Colts Footballs, because they couldn't locate the Patriot football's.
  8. Huh?

How is the second part a lie? If Schefter's knew people who believed that, how is it a lie? Doesn't mean that's it's true ; some people believe that aliens built the pyramids , does not make it so.

"...and all the other balls were just a tick under."<--- That quote is the lie. Adam didn't call it out. He just repeated 4 different times, "There are people who believe that." First off he may have been just talking about the Colts conspiracy, which is exactly what I think he was talking about. My question is, Why isn't anybody correcting this disinfo? Why are so many people claiming this to be true, and not even Rapaport is correcting it. It's an obvious fabrication.

Rapaport said multiple sources have said 3-4 balls were a tick under. That leaves 3-4 that were around 1 psi under, 2-4 that he doesn't mention, and 1 that was 2 psi under.

  9. Except that none of this is accurate.

Schefter has never said that a Colt member deflated the ball. Never.

No one has said that the weather contributed to 2 full PSI of air lost. More in the 1-1.25 range after an hour or so.

When the radio station told Schefter:"OK Adam, here’s the latest. The Colts deflated the one ball that D’Qwell Jackson intercepted, and all the other balls were just a tick under."

Schefter said four Times..."There are people who believe that."

The first part is just a conspiracy theory, but the second part is a lie. All other balls were not reported to just be a tick under. The media who's pushing that narrative are linking to Rapaport. Rapaport didn't say that. You don't see Schefter correcting them. Even Rapaport's not correcting any of this.

As far as the full 2 psi drop, I linked a video that's trying to show that exact thing.

  10. I think the Colts stayed hushed for the regular season game. Then nothing happens, and it seems to have happened again in the AFC championship game. I think we can infer from that, the Colts leaked the story to Kravitz. They wanted this investigated...not swept under the rug... like it was back in November.

  11. That's what I read somewhere .Only I read many instead of 3-4 on the tick under. Not sure if it was really Rapoprt that said that , I think it may have been another source quoting what he reported. Whether or not the other source "embellished "the 1LB or more , I don't know.

It was Rapaport being interviewed by Rich Eisen.
  12. What I read where the balls that did not fall into the "many category" were as much as alb to 1.25 pounds under. Most Pat fans took the many to mean the remaining 11 but that's not the case. I don't think there was a report that said exactly what the balls that fell into that category measured at. I did read that what I stated was the case but I really don't remember where it was. If that wasn't the case then there probably is no issue. If you read my post , I state this clearly and give credence to both arguments. Something that you won't find in one post from you people.

    Rapaport said there were

3-4 that were a tick under, 3-4 that were a lb or more, and 1 that was two lbs under. He's leaving out 3-4 more.

  13. I think you have the timeline confused...there was a leak about all 11 balls being 2lbs under...then the Patriots responded with a press conference outlining how their process and the weather was found to account for 1 lb of pressure loss....which left everyone thinking "OK...but the report is that the balls lost 2lbs"...then after that, the stories on how much pressure loss occurred all started to suggest that the first report was wrong and/or highly exaggerated. The Patritots story has been consistent. They are saying 2 basic things:

    1) they believe the balls could deflate 1lb due to natural causes

    2) they did not under any circumstances violate league rules by tampering with balls after the refs had certified them for play.

They haven't wavered from that one bit, and the leaks since then have all pretty much served to support their story.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. The leaks I gave were the initial Mortenson leak, and the most recent Rappaport leak. Basically, the first leak about the condition of the balls and last leak about the condition of the balls. My point was, everybody defending the Patriots were saying the weather caused the 2 psi loss, but now all of a sudden, everybody's just abandoned the science since the Rappaport leak. I mean physics doesn't change with every new rumor. The same people that were defending the Patriots with the weather nonsense, are now to the point where they're accusing the Colts of deflating one ball. I mean why abandon the physics now? Schefter was all over sports radio claiming the weather caused the deflation, now he's going on about the Colts deflated one ball. It seems to me Schefter is a Patriots fan and uses the weather when it suits him. A breaking sports news reporter who's supposed to be objective. Hes not the only one, but just a prime example.

By the way, there were Patriot defenders all over the place saying 2 psi could be accounted for by weather, alone.

  14. I also find it extremely circumspect, how the narrative changes after every leak.

    Examples;

Leak: 11 of 12 balls are 2 psi under regulation.

Reason given for anomaly: cold weather caused it. Every C- physics student was showing how the ball could lose up to 3 psi by game time.

Leak: All balls except one were just a tick under.

Reason given for anomoly: nothing happened except for the one ball. That ball must have been deflated by the Colts.

This is an example of the moving goal posts in this thing. All of a sudden in the middle of a physics frenzy, people abandon the idea for no reason. So which is it? Did the weather cause deflation or not?

  15. It would seem Grigson is telling the truth and Blandino is lying. Which one has an advantage if he lies? Blandino of course.

On a side note, Adam Shefter has at every chance possible defended the Patriots in this, as far as his opinion goes. I find it odd that a man who's job it is to break NFL stories, is only finding sources that defend the Patriots. His job means nothing if he's not objective. I think this gives the impression that his acumen is slipping down a slope. An info man should never look as though he's taking sides.

Bob Kravitz on the other hand is one of the most objective sports journalists out there.

Google both of these guys. Kravitz is known for taking shots at Indiana teams. A homer would never do that, for fear of being kicked out of the club. Schefter seemed to be objective until recently. He is now starting to look like an ESPN hometown homer. He probably fears he'll be kicked out of the club.

  16. I don't really know how good Sean Taylor was, but Bob Sanders at his peak was definitely feared. He was feared at 80 percent. Bob Sanders when healthy stuffed the run like a defensive tackle. With a healthy Bob Sanders you could win the Superbowl. I'm not sure there's A better measurement we could come up with than this guy turned an average defense into a monster.

  17. The only explanation is Bill Belichick knew the Seahawks plays before it happened. I find it hard to believe Butler knew the ball was going to Lockette on a slant from intuition.

Remember the Seahawks had only been in that formation 4 times all year in that area of the field, and I guarantee they didn't throw the slant every time.

The Patriots stole the Seahawks game plan by cheating, and the rest is history.

  18. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while...many quarterbacks are capable of going on a 'magical' 4 game win streak. You're right, Eli did it twice...but I guess we lowly Pats fans can take solice in the fact that Brady now has twice the number of Championships than Eli, four times the number of Championships as Peyton, and if you put them both together, they STILL haven't played in the big game as many times as Tom.

It's the sustained excellence, both in the regular season AND postseason, that gives him immortality. And I'm sorry to tell you, but as much as you want to think otherwise, his legacy is secure...and it's right at the top.

But please, hate on. It's 'clear' that credibility is important to you... ... ...

I don't hate Brady, then that would be my problem. I just don't buy into the greatest ever talk. He's been beat by Eli Manning twice. He got outplayed both times. Eli has had no problem beating the Patriots. My thinking is Tom Coughlin was smart enough not to let the Patriots steal his game plan. Peyton Manning has choked in some big games, but the biggest choke of all time was when Brady choked in that undefeated season. I'm sure if Belichick could have a do over, he would rest some guys at the end of the regular season. You could clearly see in the Superbowl Brady was a little tired. Eli on the other hand played great.
  19. You're really trying to find ways to discount the Pats' win, aren't you?

No a false start doesn't get the Seahawks a win, so they woulda won that game anyway.

I'll leave the discounting the Patriots to Jerry Rice, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Mark Brunell, and the man officially known as "The British" because all he does is kill the Patriots Eli Manning.

Just think Eli Manning single handedly took away Brady's immortal status, by out playing Brady in both Superbowls in which they faced one another.
