  1. So according to this thread the Colts made a big mistake in 1998. (Manning Pick) We should have traded that pick and maybe obtained 5 players. Heck all we would have lost is Manning.

By the way we tried that with Elway. What would you rather have Elway or the the draft picks the colts got?

  2. Here is what people miss. The reason that a team will trade up to get RGIII even if they lose draft picks is because that team realizes that a premier QB is worth MORE than the draft picks. It is usually a team that has gone years. Cleveland, Washington, Miami with no success because they could not find a QB.

The reason that the Rams would trade is that they think they have a young franchise QB (who apparently they think is better than RGIII).

The colts do not have that. No the best WR and Best Nose tackle available does not equal a franchise QB.

  3. The real question is why are the Rams trading RGIII. If he is as good as Luck then both are better that Bradford. It would make sense to draft RGIII, trade Bradford to Cleveland or Washington and get that pick. Apparently the Rams think that Bradford is better that RGIII.

  4. Jim Irsay is in a no win situtation.

If he cuts Peyton and moves on. (In my opinion best move given the choices) then we faces public wrath and humiliation.

If he pays Peyton and it turns out he cannot play the fans will then be up in arms for Irsay making such a dumb decision. (Fans are not willing to be terrible for the next 10 years just to have Peyton for one. They say that but really in the long run would not be happy)

If he pays Peyton and we go 10-6 9-7 next 3 years, Petyon retires and then we are bad the next 10 years (See number 3 for fan response)

The only way he wins is if he pays Peyton and we win A Superbowl in the next three years with 3013 talent. (low percentage. Very low)

  5. Trading away a QB who could be the franchise QB until 2025 would be dumb. I agree with most people that given the availble talent the best that we can hope for even with Petyon is 10-6 and maybe a wild card win. We cannot give up the future for one season of 10-6. Now if Peyton can stay with Luck that is fine but we cannot give up this unbelieveable gift. I would think that the trading of John Elway would never be repeated.

  6. Here is a scenario I been thinking about...

Trade #1 to the Browns (assuming they are in love with Luck) and recieve the 4th and 20 whatever and perhaps their second rounder also.....

The Colts would take Luck first, trade him to Cleveland (if RG3 lasts to #4) .. then do the trade....

I doubt Cleveland would do it, but this would be a lovely thing for the Colts, keeping Manning and letting RG3 get seasoning backing up the GOAT.

Cleveland would do that in a heart beat. ANY team will trade us for Andrew Luck and laugh all the way to the bank.

  7. If you keep Peyton and trade Luck you are looking at seasons of around 500 over next two years with aging stars. Then starting in 2014 you have a team of retiring older player that will be leaving and those left behind will be a the bottom for several years. If you take Luck you have a franchise QB until 2030. The Colts will be a team to deal with for another 15-17 years. That is our choice. As I have said before see the Johnny Unitas debate and what happened to the Colts once he could no longer play.

What we fail to recognize is that the Colts have been in decline. That happens when you draft where we have drafted over the last several years. It will take at least 2 or 3 years to rebuild. Peyton coming back will NOT make us a superbowl contender next year.

When John Elway came out in 82 the Colts made what most consider the dumbest move ever by trading him. History is now repeating itself.

As fans we have been given a great gift in that our team can remain relevant for several additional years. If we pass on that then we have no one to blame but ourselves.
