No offense to Joseph Addai, but sometimes I think he is to busy auditioning for Dancing with the Stars instead of running the football.

Know what u r saying about what looks like a waste, & I remember him in front of Ray Lewis at goal line, did that stupid move & BYPASSED HIM FOR A GREAT TD when Ray had him Dead in his sights

I remember that. One of the all time greatest whiffs.

  2. If by "bigger, more stout runner" you mean, smaller and more elusive than I totally agree. Barry is 5'8" and played at 200 lbs. Joe is 5'11" and plays at 215 according to ESPN.

The problem with the comparison is that there is no comparison. Addai is the best RB the Colts have. Barry is one of the best, if not the best, running back that the entirety of the NFL has ever seen. It will never be in our offensive makeup to be a true power running team, merely being effective on the ground will be enough.

"bigger, more stout runner".......Barry ran big. He would lower the shoulder and wallop a defender. I was referring to his running style, not his physical measurements. I understand the misunderstanding. I should've phrased it differently.

  3. Joseph Addai is no Barry Sanders. We are worst in the league in rushing. Not trying to be mean, but when was the last time

Addai had a "big run?" We cant even average 100 yards a game rushing. I know part of that is because of our O line, but the backs need to take their responsibility too. I am not saying Addai or any back should not adapt and make cuts, but also there is a time to put your head down and run.

Well, of course there is only one Barry, and that will likely remain true for many more years to come. However, the two share like qualities. I have felt this way for many years. I remember the only other mention of this comparison I've heard was in that classic undefeated battle between the Colts and the Pats just past the mid-season mark (2008?), just after Addai's 70+ yard TD run, Dierdorf hesitated, stammered a bit but uttered the comparison to Sanders. He was of course remarking about Addai's lateral movement and sudden burst from sideways to forward. The big difference is that Barry knew when to hit the hole hard. As well, Sanders was a bigger, more stout, runner with unparalleled vision.

  4. Eh, don't sink to their immature level. We're better than that. Nothing against people from Baltimore, but when it comes to this, we who have refused to accept that line of nonsense have proven to be a great deal more mentally capable and stable than those who view this organization in that light.

I know my opinion isn't popular with NFL purists, however I feel it is best not to pretend in any way that Indy's NFL franchise can lay claim to two Lombardi's. They (Baltimore) can contrive to pretend that Art Modell had something to do with the great Colts teams of the pre-Indy era.

In many ways, I pay homage to Baltimore by allowing them to retain possession of a Lombardi. It's theirs, they can have it. As they have been incapable of winning another. I imagine that this should bring them some solace.

Stooping to their level is not what I wish to accomplish. Rather, I am meeting them half way and conceding a trophy, the greatest prize of the NFL, back to them. Along with the hallowed greats such as Unitas and Berry, their respective records and all that occurred pre-1984. It's a divisive theology I engage in and considering the bitter vitriol spat out by their fanbase, I feel it is entirely appropriate to do so.

  5. Well you are certainly allowed your opinion but when The Colts left Baltimore for Indy they took the team records, lore, players, logo and uniforms with them...you can't change that. They are one in the history of the NFL and last time I looked that means more than what Baltimore Maryland thinks :sun:

Baltimore had The Browns move to their city and Cleveland kept the team name, logo, uniforms, records and lore with them...hence making a fresh start with a new name and identity. The two are vastly differant and I do agree that is is very hypocritical of Baltimore and it's fan base to be upset with the Colts when they pretty much did the same thing to Cleveland.

Please note that I mean not to slight the NFL greats such as Unitas. I can be mighty stubborn and its my little way of thumbing my nose back at the city of Baltimore for their hypocritical and petty grievances.

That being said, it has always been my opinion that when an NFL franchise picks up and moves, they should leave the respective logos and team names behind as the city in which they resided had taken ownership of them. But then again, does anybody really think that Baltimore would be any less petty if we had granted them the aforementioned logo and name?

  6. No offense to Joseph Addai, but sometimes I think he is to busy auditioning for Dancing with the Stars instead of running the football.

JA's biggest runs come on the heals of frantic lateral movement. To ask him to change that or to try and coach it out of him would be akin to asking Barry Sanders to run straight and cease with the jitters. Addai has proven to me that when provided with a lane, he can turn those lateral steps into first downs with great ease.

  7. Well that is certainly Revisionist's History and both of your rights to feel the way you do...but since I had starting watching The Colts in the early 70's they did exist :coltshelmet:

I watched Colts games in the 70's as well.

It has been over a quarter of a century now and even the Ravens organization feeds the fury, despite the obvious hypocrisy being that they themselves ripped the city of Cleavland of their beloved Browns. Yet we are referred to as "visitors" on their scoreboard.

Being that as it is, I refuse to acknowledge NFL greats such as Unitas and Berry as our alumni. They are Baltimore players and the city of Baltimore can do with them as they wish. The horseshoe has been cast in the toilet by the fanbase, the city and the once Cleavland, now Baltimore, organization. Take my horseshoe out of the toilet and I will acknowledge that the Colts history didn't begin in 1984.

  8. I swear we need to get rid of donald brown now he's dead weight to the running game and sometimes idk what he be doing but he needs to block better

    THIS AGAIN!?!

He was a rookie then. He made a mistake and Manning won't have mistakes. Donald isn't the only person that Manning has berated. This is no more proof that Donald is inept then it is proof of little green men from Mars.

  9. try being in Denmark :) hehe I love the Colts forum sadly i think we loose more and more everytime it changes :/

They're coming back bit by bit.

I really wanna thank whomever is responsible for giving us our forum back. They didn't have to do that and they switched it back quick. :foam:

  10. Where is Curtis, Smith, Berry, Gino..............? That's only Baltimore days.

How's about Donaldson(sp?), Stark and Bickett???? From the 80's.

Personally, I refuse to acknowledge Baltimore Colts until the city of Baltimore recognizes the Indianapolis Colts. To that end I say, there were no Baltimore Colts, only Baltimore players.

  11. Caldwell wants his own staff & that's that , a true shame experience that left is of immeasurable value

Yep....out with the old, in with the new. Too bad for us the old garnered a record winning streak, two conference chamionships and and and and and....

  12. the colts are at the back of the top 10 best teams in the nfl after the draft an FA period thats if there even in the top 10. The Packers, Eagles, Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Chargers, Saints, Falcons an then the Colts. all these teams have better all around talent around there QB on both defence and offence and the texans look like there ready to take the next step. i love the colts but they are one an done in the playoffs if they even make it.

You are distracted by all the shiny objects.

  13. 10 over Marshall?

Brown,Sanders,Simpson,Payton, Smith, Dickerson, Cambell, LT could all be argued as better than Marshall, but that's only 8, who would be you others?

Franco Harris and Gale Sayers would be two. Both of whom played in an era when passing was secondary and defenses always keyed on the rusher. I would even list Riggins and Okoye as better runners. What made Faulk such a stat hound was the team he played on, an offense that inflicted fear through its passing game. Defenses dedicated so much resource to minding the deep threats that Faulk often had a 10 yard head start.

  14. If you really believe Emmitt Smith was a better back than Marshall Faulk then I have just lost all football knowledge respect for you. Ruksak is it?

These people who are saying Marshall isn't even a top 10 back of all time are as delusional as they come.

It really comes down to opinion, sir, and you're asserting yours a tad too forcefully. Emmmit was a pure runner, whereas Marshall was a hybrid. Faulk was a great player in his own right and for me to claim he is, in fact, deserving of enshrinement in the Hall of Fame, doesn't exactly show a high level of disrespect toward him.

  15. other than that interception hot streak he had, "big play" was bigger than ray's play. he was a good corner, but not star quality. i don't know who coined the nickname, but ray wasn't shy about reminding everyone about it

loved brooks and he seems like a very likeable man. i think he works in the colts' front office now

Yep. never really cared for Ray. He certainly wasn't anywhere remotely near a top ten Colt. I just threw his name out there for nostalgia sakes.

I agree with BleedthisBlue on the Goose. He was in beast mode every Sunday.

  16. i hope waylon the fan judge dont decide your not a colts fan because you pointed out some weakness.

Chill with the flaming. All thats gonna do is start a fight. Come to think of it, thats about all you do here.

As to the subject of beating NE, I don't like us playing there in December but I haven't seen either team play yet. I hate making any predictions before preseason even starts.

  17. http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp11/story/_/id/6839292/cortland-finnegan-leaves-tennessee-titans-camp-mike-reinfeldt-totally-surprised

"We've tried to call him," Reinfeldt said Saturday after a team practice at LP Field. "We've not been able to get in touch with him.

Doesn't sound like he has a lot of patience waiting for contract talks. Not a smart move.

Cortland is one of the dirtiest players in the league. I hope his hot head lands him in hot water. Flat-out, the guy's a jerk.

  18. It wasn't about affordability. EJ got 7M more (1M more/yr) than Faulk for the same length of contract. As far as alternate hypothesis/possible futures are concerned.....none of it matters. What we have is reality, which is EJ more than aptly replaced Faulk in Indy. EJ was part of the solution. Always was.

The debate can rage on but the bottom line is EJ was much more a Colt contributor than Faulk....the stats and number of years in service in blue & white don't lie.

Fact is most folks view Faulk as a Ram, and I count myself among those numbers. Kinda like Dickerson....always a Ram. Those two guys passed through Indy whereas EJ will always be a Colt and was just passin' through AZ & SEA.

    Well played, sir.

For people, including myself, that initially felt letting Faulk go was a mistake on Polian's part, forgiveness comes in realizing that he made up for this mistake with a great pick @ #4 in the draft with EJ. What if Polian had decided to target "sticky" Ricky Williams? A great RB in his own right, but gave up the game for several years so he could chill and smoke rope.

Point being, Polian gets a pass on this because he made right a wrong.

  19. Moss is better than 85% of the receivers in the league still, the 15% reside at the Colt's squad.

Statements like this show an acute lack of understanding on your part. I like our receiving core, they are talented and capable. But there is no way that they comprise the top 15% of the most talented receivers in the league. Moss is old and lacks the drive and hunger necessary to be a top receiver in this league, period. The man seemed to be on a mission to prove so last season.
