Maybe you didnt understand my post.. at the end of the day he doesn't make big highlight reel plays. Therefore your typical nfl fan doesnt see alot of vontae which leads to him getting no love. All of people say we have no pass rush but we are 13th in the league in sacks.. were better than Arizona, san fran, cleveland, Pittsburgh, pats, Seattle, houston.. so were dont have that bad of a pass rush.. but you guys can hate on me all you want but i was simply saying vontae gets no love because he is not in the spotlight highlight type player
13th in the league means so little when you consider our schedule. In our 4 combined losses against true playoff contenders we have 1 sack. 4 of our sacks came from the Jax game, 3 from Tennessee, and 5 from Houston. That's exactly half of our season sack total due to those teams being weak on the offensive front. Shoot, even when Philly was missing their 2 best d-lineman, we couldn't get a sack. 13th means nothing without perspective.

He isnt a play maker or impact player.. not someone qbs worry about.. once qbs notice a CB first then people(fans/nfl) notices.. whens the last time a qb or Wr or any player give any kinda love toward vontae?.. i didnt say he was good because he obviously he is.. im sayin hes not a great/elite. Im just answering the posters question to why no love for vontae.. and its because hes not a playmaker.. he not someone you turn on highlight reels of.. not someone you see weekly bases on nfl/espn channel makin plays.
When QB's actively avoid throwing to the person, you are covering. By plays, I assume you mean only interceptions, which only happen when...the QB throws your way...which they don't. Vontae has made some great hits this year. To be doing what he is doing with virtually no safety help, and virtually no pass rush is completely astounding.

Better personnel. I wish we had a Ray Lewis.
I don't even think Ray would have helped last night. Their o-line was getting to the second level all night.

Sproles is a great player. I would give the nod to Murray, but dang....he fumbles...a lot. I think Jamaal Charles is probably one of my top backs.
-
The way to beat Brady is to pressure the middle of the pocket. If he doesn't feel comfortable in the pocket, the game gets much easier, especially with the way Davis and Toler are playing.
-
That escalated quickly.

....... Anything you say????
I can think of one thing that would counter that statement
Apple juice?

Exactly. The Houston game is a great example. Colts got up big early and the started playing mostly nickel. Texans then snuck in a lot of garbage rushing yards against the colt nickel front. When games have been on the line though, teams have had difficulty running on the colts.
And for those complaining about the pass rush, in our defense the pass rush is designed to come mostly from the linebackers, not the dl. This is the third year in this defense. Come on now people.
With the last part being 100% true, I think we've actually had a decent pass rush from the line. We have been able to squeeze the pocket. That's important.

Do we even need another OLB with Newsome? I think we can all agree he has a lot of potential and he already has 3 sacks this season
I think the jury is still out with Newsome and Purifoy. Werner doesn't dominate the way Mathis has. That's the kind of pass rusher we need... Someone that instills fear in the offense of the opposing team or forces a double-team. To me that is a first or second round talent in most cases not named Mathis.
I agree with BB on this one. Newsome has looked great in limited play, but we need someone that is going to get pressure every single play. The thing about Mathis is that teams have to double and chip him just to slow him down. That opens up many more opportunities for who ever is across from him. I'm not saying that Newsome cannot become that, but right now, I think we should get as many pass rushers as possible. Injuries will happen. I think a good team needs at minimum 3 good pass rushers.

Let Pat McAffee take him to all the clubs in Indy the night before the game. Perhaps he will be too hungover on Sunday?
-
That is funny.
But it's also a good point. The way slow down and beat the Patriots is you have to have 4 different game plans, one for each quarter. BB is great at figuring out what a team is doing and adjusting the pass routes, blocking schemes, etc. But how the Giants beat them in the SBs and how KC beat them earlier in the year, even how Oakland was able to keep it close is because they used different schemes from their front 7. They started with getting pressure from the front 4 (so that is a must) and then they started bringing an extra guy and playing zone with the rest. And then they brought the extra guy from a different location and playing man on the WRs. And then they took that extra guy made it look like he was coming but dropped him into zone between the hash marks and brought someone else from a different spot.
Additionally, no matter who they have going out for passes or how unstoppable they seem there is one thing that holds true. Brady is deadly accurate between the hash marks... force him to throw outside of the hashmarks and he's not nearly as accurate or comfortable. So, play a combination of man and zone to keep the middle of the field stacked with defenders and it will be a long day for the Patriots.
Very, very accurate assessment. I'm not saying change everything you do, but if it's on our tape, BB has seen it and has planned for it. Manusky will have to call his best game. Hamilton and Luck will have to keep churning out first downs. The best way to beat the Pats is to score every possession, and minimize the amount of time that Tom has to score. In addition, you must not give him anything easy. If he has all day to throw, it's game over. Pressure up the middle could really hurt his timing and confidence.

If T-Rich isn't able to play then we need to just give all his carries for this week to Boom. I don't want to see an increase in Bradshaw's touches. His health is essential

Jerell Freeman too
I don't know how I missed Freeman! Thanks for the catch

He's been great. I think Walden has been very good this season. Darius Butler has played some very solid football, too.
-
Maybe he is the Pep Whisperer, or like Obi-Wan or Yoda in ghost form giving advice to Pep. "Forget the power run you must. A winner Luck is."

Pat is the most popular kicker or punter in the league, plus the best punter, so I think he is definitely going.
NFL AM is to credit for his popularity. Everytime he is on, he cracks me up

It feels great to be talking positively about our defense. If you told me at the beginning of the year that we would be this excited about a defense without Robert Mathis, I would have thought you were crazy.

I hope Sergio keeps his starting job when Landry comes back but I'm worried that he won't even though sergio has outplayed Landry easily.
Do you think Pagano sits Sergio when Laron is back? What's your opinion?
We will see. Pagano said something along the lines of "earning your job" when A.Q. was benched. Lets see if that is just talk, or substance. As we've seen in the past, it may just be talk. A.Q. was benched in favor of Satele a few years ago after A.Q. outplayed him.

This is his 9th season with colts, he had 10 with new england..
But he signed a new contract for 2014 and 2015 only, so he would have 10 seasons with both teams..
Thanks for the info. My memory was hazy on that.

I've been wondering lately who he will retire with. If he plays another 2 seasons, he will have been a Colt for longer, right?
-
He's so old he was probably with the Pats when they got beat down by the Bears in 85 ;)
Just kidding AV!
If you said that about Peyton, he wouldn't throw any balls to you in the next game :manning:

I consider Marvin to be the 2nd best receiver of all time and the best route runner of all time. Just my opinion, but the routes he ran were the stuff of legends
I've read and heard many interviews with DBs saying that every route he ran looked the same until he made a break. He had no "tells." It helps that he and the GOAT had an uncanny mental connection. Peyton could just look at Marvin and know what was going on. I hate to compare, but I think we are starting to see a few instances of that with Luck and Hilton.

I have what I assume is either a scrap or practice jersey. It looks to be from the mid-80's number 48. It has no name on it, but my dad knew a lady who helped make them for the team back in the day. I wonder if I posted a picture, if anyone on here could give me some insight on it. My dad passed a few years back, and I don't know much about the 80's Colts or even if this is real.
[Speculation] Welcome to Indy Ben Tate?

I'd take a flyer on the guy. He was good with the Texans. Anything that is going to take some of the load from Rich is a good thing.
