  1. I disagree a tri is as important to a LB as a WR.  A LB can still tackle even if he can't fully extend his arm, if a WR cannot fully extend his arm or it does not extend as far as usual that would have a huge impact on receptions.

The extension of the arm isn't the issue. When wrapping up much of the strength comes from the biceps and triceps. If you can't lock your arms around the ball carrier they will break loose.

  2. I don't get all the "he can't play with a torn tri" talk. Ray Lewis did the same thing in the Ravens Super Bowl run. A tricep is just as important to a linebacker during a tackle as it is to a receiver during a catch. Heck, Phillip Rivers played on a torn ACL. I'm not saying he was or is the same player he was a few years back, but give the guy a shot. Yesterday was rough. I know, but we do not know how much of that was due to the tricep.

  3. Yeah, I never understand why former teammates call into question another athlete's toughness or game production on a different squad. Generally, it's never a good idea to tick another player off & give them added ammunition to steamroll over the Browns collectively speaking. Just keep it to yourself Whitner & worry about your own TD production/ prevention man.

I remember going to the Browns site once our GM picked Richardson up & a lot of fans were pretty miffed that they got rid of such a potent weapon in Cleveland. Trent was highly regarded in the dog pound & it's ironic to see Browns safety undercut him now.  I'm not that thrilled about TR's lack of yardage either, but you never wanna solidify the opposing team against you as a rallying cry. Talk about a lame, bone headed move. Not smart at all Donte. SMH.

Whitner isn't a former teammate. He was a free agent acquisition from SF this year. I absolutely agree with the rest of your sentiments, though.

  4. I'm going to be optimistic. Maybe he turns a corner this week. I mean, maybe it finally clicks. Maybe he goes off, and turns into the monster he was with Alabama. I still think it is painfully obvious that he is getting the ball on some run plays.

Don't slaughter me for trying to have some hope! :hide::peek:

  5. I may be in the minority, but I think we need to get an extremely good backup. If the FO is going to continue to let Luck get hit like he has, then it may very well come in handy. We have been VERY fortunate that he hasn't been injured the last 3 years.

Off of this list, Matt Moore would be a decent option. Mark Sanchez maybe, but I get the feeling that Philly hangs on to him.

  6. You're implying that if he was good he'd have more playing time. With this coaching staff, that is not true. This team went 3/4 of the seasin watching Hakeem Nicks limp around the field before they played the clearly better option.

A la DHB last year. A la Donnie Avery the year before.

  7. He was a lot younger in his days with SD but they ran a 3-4 and were one of the best defenses in the league a couple years he was with them.  He was a big part of that D also.

That's fine. These older pass rushers have been good lately (Ware, Mathis, Phillips in Denver). We recently saw a pass rusher change defenses and positions and have a career record setting year. I'm not saying Phillips will come in and do that, but it is possible that he is a piece of the puzzle.

  8. Why is it such a sin to credit the Texans on this board? They are the same team that was in the playoffs just a few years back. Their only issue is their qb. DeAndre Hopkins has been awesome this year, and Watt is Watt. If we can put pressure on Mallet and stop the run, I'll be comfortable, but let's not pretend that it's a possibility. They did just beat the Browns who are playoff contenders. They gave the Cowboys hell, and their biggest loss was only by 13 points.... Sometimes all it takes is a change to make things happen. BOB paid attention to the Pats game. I guarantee you that they will come to LOS ready to play.

  9. I heard UK basketball HC John Calipari say this recently: "We don't have subs; We have reinforcements." Man, the love the toughness of that saying. I wish INDY had that philosophy in our ground game.

I know Grigs is trying his best & I hope Josh Cribbs is a step in that direction. TR should perform decent against the Jags. Just what we need--Beat up on a weaker foe & get our mojo back.

I love your attitude SW1. You always have something positive to say.

  10. True but I also feel this 2014 team is performing better on D in the regular season, especially against the run... (yes I know!). It's hard to compare eras with the way Offenses have exploded and put it through the air more but the 2006 team gave up 173 yard per game on the ground (32nd) wheras 2014, even after the NE game, is giving up 113 yard per game (17th).

I feel too we've got the teams with the most dangerous offenses out the way now (except maybe Dallas) so I'd hope the D picks itself back up again. There are some good pieces on it, and for all the Manusky hate I think he's doing a good job manufacturing a pass rush without a premier pass rusher on the whole.

Things always look worse in the darkness of defeat but hopefully the new dawn of a victory over the Jags on Sunday will make things a bit brighter.... well at least make the trolls go back into their caves :)

Dallas scares the living daylights out of me. Being in Texas, I've seen what they can do. They win games with their o-line. I believe that is their biggest strength. I will say I have been impressed with some of the manufacturing of the pass rush, but it disappears against good teams with good lines and a QB that can work a pocket. I posted in another threat that out of our 24 sacks this season, 12 came in AFCS games. In the 4 games we've lost, we have only gotten 1.

  11. Actually to be the best you must beat the best in January :)

Dudley's point is that as long as we make the Playoffs we have a chance, any given Sunday right? Look at 2006... Defense steps up out of nowhere to win us the SB. There's a lot of football to be played between then and now and strange things can happen.

The only issue with this is that we have been fairly injury free on defense. Yes, losing Mathis hurt, but we have nobody coming back that completely changes who we are physically. That's why the comparison to 2006 doesn't work.

  12. I think most of us are just disappointed that we have been flat out unprepared for big games. Sunday night, after the first drive, we should have known that BB wanted to run the ball. We didn't adjust, and they continued to run the same play all night. 10 yards a carry? The little league team I coached didn't even give that up, and we came in last place! That doesn't scream confidence, and at this point it was coaching. We handled the passing game well, but Chuck and Manusky did nothing to stop that run. Those drives kept our offense on the bench and wore our defense out. This is the team we built all offseason to beat, and they punched us right in the mouth. Until our coaches learn to adjust their gameplans in game, we cannot be considered a contender.

  13. As for the "pretender" remark, it's just dumb. Six weeks ago, the Pats were a pretender. Brady was going to get benched or traded. The Belichick era was coming to a close. Remember all that stupid stuff? Even good teams have ups and downs. What matters is whether you can win enough games to get into the postseason, and then hopefully you can make enough plays to win some games and have a chance at doing some damage, and maybe you get to the Super Bowl. NFL history is littered with Super Bowl participants who took bad losses during the season.

  14. Owens and Johnson? :excited: at least someone has a sense of humor. If you are serious, that makes it even funnier. Johnson isn't doing anything special in the CFL. Owens....just... no.

  15. Where is jskinnz?

Trich has been running really well this year.  Still has some things to work on but the guy is a workhorse if they would let them.  Additionally his receiving and blocking has been top notch.  Too bad fans get so caught up in an idea they can't see what is right in front of them.

He has been much improved, but I think a lot of that has to do with AB. Having that 1-2 punch has been a good thing.
