  1. This is a great forum, not to suck up, but the mods here are all class acts. All are very knowledgeable. I like the different view points that everyone has. Shoot, we have Texans fans that even add to discussion, and handle themselves very well. I've watched the Colts pretty much for the last 14 years or so, once I started to understand football. I love that many members of this forum have such great grasp on the Salary Cap. Heck, I don't understand it at all.

Not to single people out, but I really love posts by SW1, New Colts Fan, Superman, and several others (those are just the names that stand out in my mind). Y'all are like internet family!

  2. Would it be possible to do a sign and trade perhaps? Maybe he signs the tender/contract, and we decide some form of compensation that doesn't kill us. Maybe give them our 1st this year or next and throw in a player (I know they need a WR, but I don't want to give them ours). I don't know what else they need, but I think Houston would be worth a hefty price.

  3. Yep, easily our best lineup of the year

Up until the NE game, we actually had a running game. Was running the ball very well against a solid Bengals defense

I'd contest that we never tried to establish the run against the Pats. Sure, it didn't help that we were in an early hole, but sometimes, you can run yourself out of it. There just wasn't much success in the passing game. Too many failed drives and we never changed our plan.

  4. So.....

    How do people see McPhee?

Is he a pass rushing OLB?

Or,  is he a pass rushing DE?

I'm asking to try and get a feel of where on a roster McPhee might fit?

I'm not sold on him. He is going to get paid, but I'm hoping it isn't us that pays the price. He wasn't a starter for the Ravens. Yes, I know they have a stout front 7, but I'm not sure he can be an every down player. I don't relish the idea of us picking up (and breaking the bank for) guys that weren't starters for their previous teams. RJF and DT are too fresh in my mind to believe that it is a fool proof plan to start a backup and get all-pro caliber talent.

  5. I really want Andrus Peat in the first round I think, and from there take 2-4 more lineman. Build a line with depth that is young.

We could be set there for years. Use the rest of the picks on defense. Use some free agency to add another expensive weapon or two for Luck if possible.

I think you are right on the second part (I can't comment on Peat because I haven't been paying attention to the crop of rookies coming in). It seems like the Pats consistently build their line through the draft. I don't really remember them making any super "sexy" picks. It seems to me that they are able to deal with injuries and aging vets. Shoot, they got rid of arguably the NFL's best guard in the past decade and won the Super Bowl. Great point, OC.

  6. I disagree

We have TWO receiving threats at TE, there's teams out there that don't even have ONE good TE. If both stay healthy and continue to makes strides every game/year, the need for WR drops.

Wouldn't mind it at all if our WR group going into next season was

    Hilton

    Moncrief

    Carter

    Whalen

Lenz or some other PS WR or UDFA

Wouldn't mind it only IF it meant we addressed the trenches and got a running game. That's what the offense is missing, a running game. If Seattle can keep winning with average WR's, no reason we can't with the WR core we have which imo is better than Seattle's

I think we absolutely need another receiver. Hilton was absolutely invisible in the AFCCG. I know he was banged up, but injuries happen. Moncrief was very hit or miss last season. I'm excited about him, but at this point, I'm not ready to put all my eggs in his and Carter's basket. I think we absolutely need to bring in someone better than what we have the last three seasons. Yes, we have the two tight ends, but with DA's injury history and Fleener's inconsistency we can't depend on that. I'm not saying DT or Dez, but look at what a player like Golden Tate did for the Lion's offense last year. We need that spark for when our top option is taken out of games.

  7. The first comment makes me more sad to think it took them this long to realize that.  When your team and coaching staff is forced to learn that the hard way, that doesn't excite me (especially when our GM is a former offensive lineman).  Isn't that kinda the basis of playing in the trenches?  We've needed to get better in the trenches on both sides of the ball for several years now, so for them to learn that the hard way.....not a positive sign, in my opinion

Not to mention the "Monster's" mantra was run the ball and stop the run.

  8. The Marvin catch against NE is probably the definitive catch that sticks out in my mind. The Da'Rick Rogers catch in the wild card was so big. Reggie has had so many, "how did he do that"-s that it's hard to register. Dallas Clark had the one hander against the Bengals in the "Lost Year."

The first catch in this highlight reel is one of my favorite Colts-Pats moments. I think it shows just how much concentration Reggie has.
  9. I can't stand articles like this. I could site example after example of draft picks failing.....doesn't mean the draft is fools gold. Do the patriots win the SB without revis and Browner? Nope. Do the Seahawks win the SB without Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril? No way. Oh, and who did the Seahawks beat? The broncos, a team vaulted to the SB by free agency.

And I love how he says ask Daniel Snyder, Jerry Jones about free agency. Shocking that those two failed miserably in free agency.

You beat me to it! It takes a good meshing of both the draftees and free agents to build a dynasty. It's just a matter of hitting more than you miss, building depth, and finding those guys that fit what you want to do.

  10. Rah, rah leadership?  ...   Adams played great in the regular season, and Redding did too...   Reggie...    so so.. . and in the playoffs?  A total NO SHOW.    And all these guys are probably gone.      Adams may be back but he will be what 34/35?

This team does not need mouths talking talk, this team NEEDS guys making plays.        And I might add a staff that is WILLING enough to put players in positions to make plays.     And not just run what they run.

NE exposes average players and COACHING STAFFS.  .. .

I'm just saying that those guys, by virtue of having long careers (and by their play last season), have earned the right to talk about coaches. I completely agree that they need to make plays, but honestly, I don't feel like DA is in that realm yet. He's got great potential, and had a great season, but for now, he needs to hone his craft.

  11. DWayne Allen needs to ....

    1   stay healthy...

    2   catch the damn ball....

and 3   keep his mouth shut...

Andrew Luck and Vontae are the ONLY players on this team that have earned the right to run their traps.

Allen is just a good TE...   nothing more.     He gets on local radio and all of a sudden he is the voice of reason?

EVERYONE needs to tighten it up....   including DA.

This team is the polar opposite of a NE...    Dungy / Polian days are long gone....   Indy is just another undisciplined squad now.

Seattle does the same...    but they have talent....     Indy?   a lot of no shows when the chips are on the table.

I would shut up and get to work...

I would bargain to say that from a leadership standpoint Redding, Wayne, and even Mike Adams have earned the right to talk.

  12. I think the big issue with Monrief is that he almost insists catching with his body. Receivers like CJ reach up and pluck the ball down, but a receiver like CJ with the combination of size, speed, jumping, and catching ability is almost impossible to find. Larry Fitzgerald (in his prime) was imho the closest in the last ten years to that type of receiver. Mike Evans has those types of measurables, but Calvin Johnson is arguably a once in a generation receiver.
