I thought about going wide receiver or tight end here, but with Jordy coming back I think it will help the offense flow better. Also Aaron was running for his life this year, but many analyst's are saying it was due to the line not being healthy this year.
But the big surprise was Raji walking away, so...

Mock drafts are always tricky, and will undoubtedly face criticism. A lot will change from when this is posted to when the drat starts, free agency will change everything significantly. Some of this may be unpopular, but it is just a mock of what I think could happen. This is my first attempt of the year, but it has been thoughtfully put together.

Draft:
Round 1: Andrew Billings, NT, Baylor
- Some do not understand the importance in drafting a nose tackle this early, but think either protecting Luck or fixing the pass rush is most important. I am of that thinking, but also think that Billings can help with that. Peyton and Brady have been quoted as saying that the pressure that bothers them the most is the pressure right up the middle, and Billings can provide that. Not only can he provide that up the middle, as a dominating NT, but can also help in the pass rush up the edge, by commanding double teams and freeing up the linebackers to rush the passer.
Round 2: Christian Westerman, OG/C, Arizona State
- This may seem like a reach to some, but is a smart draft pick here. Grigson said that he says many guards/centers can project to what they need for lineman. Westerman excels as an athletic offensive guard and can come in and solidify the center spot. According to nfl.com (Lance Zierlein) Westerman can excel in a ZBS, which is what I project Westerman to being (center).
Round 3: William Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary
- The future strong safety spot has hopefully been filled with Geathers, but the Colts need a long term solution for FS. Carson has been solid against the pass and is a willing tackler. He had a good combine, running a 4.54 forty. He could use a year to learn and luckily the Colts can afford to give him that with having Mike Adams still on the roster. Carson is a willing tackler in the run game and can cover the slot, and is a ball hawk in the secondary.
Round 4: Victor Ochi, OLB, Stoney Brook
- The Colts simply cannot address all of their needs in one free agency, so some may be upset that the Colts did not address OLB until the 4th round. But as stated earlier adding a quality NT in round 1 can help with the pass rush. As for Ochi, he can help set the edge and be a back up to Walden, he has the willingness and the strength to hold up against the run and is not looked at as highly upon, thanks to the lower competition he faced.
Round 5: Matt Judon, OLB, Grand Valley State
- The Colts double up here, given their need for outside linebackers. Judon is a small school standout that Grigson has shown to not be scared of drafting. Grigson has shown that he prefers production versus what school you went to and Judon has it. He dominated his competition with 20 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss as a senior, and backed it up with a solid combine showing (275 lb, 4.73 40, and a 35.0 inch vertical). Judon is the classic small school project that can turn into major production on the next level.
Round 7: David Morgan, TE, Texas-San Antonio
- With the Colts only signing 1 of 2 of their tight ends, the need to draft one for competition is essential. Morgan is a solid blocking tight end with reliable hands and can be solid competition for the teams 3rd tight end.

Getting sacks on the QB, or even tackles, can be the product of the guys around him not being very good. If he's the only guy getting to the QB it can be very hard for someone of his size to chase down and get sacks.When he has the skills you claim he does -- more than that.
The guys has pass rushing skills. He's not just a space eater and a guy who occupies two offensive lineman to free-up linebackers.
He's got play making ability, but doesn't seem to make many plays.
Hey, I said in my post I think he's a candidate for the first round. But that's based on projection and not on production.
And disruption is production in and of itself, especially for a NT.

But to be fair, playmakers are playmakers. I hope Colts give him a serious look in the 1st, he's my favorite player in the draft.Dawson is the best LB....Still say he's a 4-3 Will though

Yeah i think it is very important that we look for playmakers in the draft this year and not just somebody who fits the body type we're looking for in our defense. As we have seen, just because you're huge does not mean you can do your job well.I love seeing Hardinson getting some love been tracking him since the Irish game
I would go Perryman with our first which is really a high 2nd I think he's going to end up going around there anyway don't see Thompson lasting that long

And as for Thompson, I thought that as well, but there is talk right now that he could slip because he doesn't have a set position. ESPN has a second round grade on him right now, and nfl.com has a bottom first, top of second type grade, so you never know. It will all probably change at the combine.

2015 Draft:
- Round 1 - Shaq Thompson, S/LB, Washington - Playmaker, what our defense is lacking, Thompson was a playmaker while at Washington, no matter where he played, he made plays and always had a nose for the ball. Would be a smart pickup at 29.
- Round 2 - Paul Dawson, ILB/OLB, TCU - I know you may be saying, why draft pretty much the same person in back to back rounds. Answer, because its what we need, linebackers who make plays, and last time Grigson drafted the same player in back to back rounds it worked out well (Fleener/Allen). Paul Dawson is another playmaker that our defense has been lacking.
- Round 3 - Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State - Gotta give Dustin some credit here, his wright up is what turned me on to this guy. One of his best traits is catching the ball out of the backfield and as of the end of the season this is something our offense needs to run properly. Has fantastic balance and has the speed and vision to work well in our offense.
- Round 4 - Marcus Hardison, DT, Arizona State - Defensive line help, disruptive and can collapse the pocket, solid against the run and would help in the rotation immediately.
- Round 5 - Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford - A fan favorite in the later rounds around here. He has the size we crave for our safeties and is very physical. Needs to get better as cover guy, but has the physicality we need. Can start immediately helping us on special teams.
- Round 6 - Imoan Claiborne, CB, Northwestern State - A good press corner that can fill in as our 4th corner and would help with depth. Fast riser in the draft, so might be gone before this pick.
- Round 6 - Ryan Russell, DE, Purdue - Does not have the production you would like to see, but has the size and the look of the part. Watching him on several clips he can disrupt in the backfield and make the plays, just needs to be more consistent.
- Round 7- Jordan Taylor, WR, Rice - At this stage in the draft process and this late in the draft, you look for potential, and I know every year someone drops this low that you can not believe is still there but that is impossible to predict at this stage. Taylor has good size (6'5, 210) and production you would like to see, just needs to put it all together.

I envision taking shaq and making him an inside linebacker, if he puts on a little more weight he would dominate in coverage at 6'2' and close to 230. And he has enough speed to cover sideline to sideline and could help with blitzing the QB. Just what I would like to see.He's a guy I've tagged to watch tape on when I start that process. I know they're highlights, but I've seen a few gifs of him in pass coverage which I liked. He's quick to get to the ball, but it doesn't appear that he's good at taking on and shedding blocks. Based on that very limited sample, I can see why people say he probably projects better as a safety, especially given his size. My only issue with taking him in the first round is that I am not sure that safety is as big a position need as our OL/DL. But I'm all for us taking the BPA - assuming Shaq is the BPA - if there's no lineman there worth the first round selection.

I would go Smith, Van Noy, Attaochu, in that order. But I would not be upset at all if the Colts took any of the 3. They're all so close as far as prospects for me, but my personal preference is Smith, to me he just seems to have the most potential.
Murphy to me looks like a carbon copy of Werner and just do not see a need for another guy like Werner (hope he develops into our future SAM).
