Yeah, Stanford is going to the ACC. It's really annoying because no other conference wants Oregon State because they aren't a big brand name but they are having another great year 5-1 ranked 15th. So they may end up left without a conference or have to downgrade to the mountain west conference even though they are playing like a top 25 team.

The ACC? Is that for certain? Ugh. I don't like it.

Oregon St will probably move too. Is Oregon St still coached by the guy who used to be the Chargers' head coach? He has/had been at Oregon St for a while. I forgot his name.

Who are the other three teams that have not joined a new conference?

    Why did the Pac-12 dissolve?

Didn't the Dodgers win the World Series recently? It is better to get there. Some teams like the Mets spend so much money and still miss the playoffs.

Regarding the Astros, they may have cheated once but it seems that they continue to play at a high level. Are they still cheating?

It’s crazy to see only 4 teams remain to play in 2024 my Oregon State Beavers included. It’s crazy to see a conference fall apart when it’s over 100 years old. So far it’s unknown where the Beavers will be playing in 2024 and how they do this year may influence it, they had a great year last season including a bowl game win but will probably need another double digit winning season to maybe get interest from the ACC or Big 12.

The worst case scenario would be the mountain-west conference because the budget for football would decline and we are in the middle of remodeling our stadium.

I hate all these teams changing conferences. I stopped watching college basketball because of that. Changing conferences killed the Big East which had many great rivalries. I am a Stanford football fan and want them to remain in the PAC-12. I have not followed closely this season. Is Stanford bound for a different conference too?

What a mess college football is. All of this wad done for one reason alone: money. Aren't there other factors to take into account before ruining conferences and sports? In sports (and elsewhere), money is valued over everything else. It is terrible.

My enjoyment of sports is dwindling. I used to follow college sports as well a professional tennis, golf, baseball and sometimes the Olympics. The only sport I still follow is NFL football, but I see I am losing interest a bit. I may start following baseball again if the Mets start a youth movement; otherwise, I won't watch.

Sorry for the rant. I want the conferences to go back to what they were -- regional, where there could be some real rivalries. I don't like what there is now. Hopefully the PAC 12 will survive.

Colts' Mo Alie-Cox: Ready for Sunday

Alie-Cox (concussion) was cleared of his injury designation and will be available Sunday against the Jaguars.

Alie-Cox has seen his playing time slip with the likes of Kylen Granson and Drew Ogletree now healthy. The veteran tight end likely will still mix in on occasion offensively, but it's hard to imagine he'll be a major factor in the passing game.

I better update the game thread. I wrote that he was out. I will give you credit for noting this.

When the season started I think we all understood the number one thing was Richardson getting ready for 24. Now that it’s Minshew has your mind now shifted to wins are the number one priority. Because if we lose and don’t have Richardson we really haven’t accomplished anything.

I think I understand what you are asking. Winning is always important, but if the Colts did not win this year but Richardson showed progress and gave fans positive signs of things to come, it would be a positive year regardless of wins and losses. Now that Richardson is not playing, you are asking: what is the goal of the season. I say winning and possibly the continued develop the young players.

I watched last season, I watched Scott Tolizen try to play QB, heck I watched Curtis freaking Painter.  I can handle watching Minshew and whatever comes with it.

    You're a fan no matter what. :)

Curtis Painter is ridiculed so much by fans here. He reminds me a bit of how Vikings fans talk about Christian Ponder. At least the Colts did not use a first round pick on Painter.

Lol. We called Ponder  "CP7". I see that Painter also wore #7 and can also be called CP7.

I miss the draft being at radio city. Watching all those jets fans be so disappointed every year was great.  I forget the te they picked one year. He wasn’t bad but they were so visibly upset when he got picked.

I think you are referring to the draft when the Jets selected Kyle Brady, a TE. The fans booed him and kept saying that they wanted the Jets to draft Warren Sapp. If I recall correctly, Bill Belichick was with the Browns at the time. The Browns were selecting next and were planning to take Kyle Brady. The cameras showed Belichick being visibly upset that the Jets selected Brady, as they had been prepared to select him.  He just traded away the next pick. I recall some of the analysts saying that it was a good selection by the Jets, but the fans did not like it.

I also recall when Eagles fans booed the Donovan McNabb pick.

I don't know, last year he was 11-0 in 1 score games. He was pushing a lot of right buttons last year in crunch time. Kirk was also pretty clutch too. This season, the Vikings have had some bad breaks IMO.

I never thought we were a good team last year. We did not play good fundamental football but we seemed to win. I said it was not sustainable. I think we have a better team this year but we are losing.

did you see the chargers game a week after the Vikings game, chargers coach tried to go for 4th down at LAC 34 yards line, while leading 24-17 with 3:30 minutes left in 4th quarter and gave Raiders a very short field to score. Raiders rookie QB ended up throwing and interception at 3-yard line. If they had scored, it could've gone to OT.

I did not see that. He makes poor in-game decisions. It has not hurt him yet.

O'Connell is not thay much better. His game and clock management are horrendous.

There’s rumors it’s going to become a moving event from city to city

I heard this but saw that it took place in Indy this year; so, I thought I misheard.

The draft used to take place in NYC every year. Now it travels to different cities. The Combine may have the same fate. I think it should stay in Indy. It is an Indy event.

I’ve stood on that turf many times over the years. Couldn’t believe how hard it was the first time I walked on it. Feels like a track more than a field.

Designed on purpose that way for our speedy receivers during the Manning era.

Does the Combine take place there? I wonder if a change of turf would impact the future of the Combine in Indy, if LOS is used for the Combine.

  11. Week 6 is here folks. Enjoy the games.

I disagree. The helpfulness of a test is not determined by the success of one player, be it in positive or negative direction. It will add another data point. One that they might have needed since they've been saying that so far no QB who scored low has succeeded. It might help them better contextualize what the test is saying about the prospects... or it might just be an outlier. :dunno:

Okay. I hear you, but I don't think people will be so quick to dismiss someone who scores low on the test.

This might be the best of this thread , one of the funniest things I have ever heard Cracking Up Lol GIF by HULU

That was funny by MarylandTerrapin. :funny:  One of my favorites which was posted by a formerly very active member, SouthWest1, was:

    dont-let-the-door-hit-ya-where-the-good-

At the time, I had never heard that and thought it was his own creation. haha (He posted that to show what he thought of Brad Wells leaving a Colts site.)

I can imagine SW1 using that here.

Anyway, all the best on Sunday. You have a competent QB to hold the fort until Richardson is well enough to play again.

Its my understanding the test is about processing speed, not necessarily about analytical skills.

I may have added "analytical skills" by accident, but those who believed in the test thought it could help eliminate those who would not be successful in football.

If the test measures processing speed, then it was not accurate at predicting Stroud's speed when processing information on the football field. One has to process lots of information quickly to be successful at football. Stroud is clearly doing that.

    Anyway, good discussion.

Yeah, if a person is not used to taking one particular kind of test, it can be a one-off environmental surprise thing.  I think there is value to that kind of testing, but more things probably have to be understood about it.

I think it has value, but Stroud's success may show that this test does not accurately predict how a quarterback will play. The proponents of the S2 test noted that scoring well on the test was not necessarily a sign of future success but that failing the test is a sign that someone does not have the analytical skills to play the game. Stroud failed the test badly, but he is playing football well without a great OL and without great WRs.
