I would take Barkley, if we don't trade down the #3 pick. He is a difference maker and would give us a huge weapon, and take pressure off Luck, too. I imagine we'll address OL in free agency. I agree that Smith is not worthy of the #3 pick.

The only thing I am unsure of is IF we keep the pick. Depends on if a 3rd QB is in high enough demand. Maybe a team falls in love with Mason Rudolph, Josh Allen, or Baker Mayfield and makes us an offer we cannot refuse.
Deep down, I think we are keeping the pick, and I think Barkley is already our guy.
I think we need to prepare for a backfield with Andrew Luck and Saquon Barkley. Could be a lot of fun watching those two work together.

i hope he is there when we pick

What’s with all this “if we trade back” talk on like every prospect? If you like a guy, take him. Forget about positional value (except for Kickers, Punterss, and FBs) and all that stuff.
I concur

why would any team want our coaches with their loss record? do teams hire losers?

- Resign Melvin(CB)and Desir(CB) hopefully to a decent price.
- Resign Mingo(OLB) and Vinateiri(K).
- Sign Allen Robinson(WR), Jarvis Landry(WR)
- Sign Andrew Norwell (G) and another Guard.
- Draft Barkley(RB) round 1, than draft all OLine, and Linebacker rounds 2-7
I concur

If that's so, then Richards would be my top choice for DC. He's young, an aggressive play caller and helped manage the Legion of Boom. If he is chosen as DC, that might also mean that Minkah Fitzpatrick may be in play for the #3 draft pick. Can you imagine Fitz, Quincy and Hooker in the same backfield?!
I would like more experienced proven talent at those positions, not draft picks and second year guys who did not play much

Begins at about 31 minutes.
Lombardi offhandedly mentions that the Colts conducted a secret interview. Many of you will probably think it's a college coach, but I think it's the opposite. I think it might be Kris Richard for our DC spot. We don't have a HC yet, so we can't hire coordinators, which is why the interviews have to be in secret. Ballard already knows he wants McDaniels and there's an agreement between the two. Now, McDaniels may not be available until February, so Ballard is locking up his coordinators early. Richard makes sense because he was released by the Seahawks and has connections to the Colts FO(Ed Dodds). He hasn't gotten many interviews for HC(I don't think any team has him as the favorite), and he probably knows it, which is why he's willing to be DC. The Colts fit because McDaniels is offense minded and Richard gets full control of the defense. I could be completely wrong, but it's some food for thought.

I've been watching him (Chubb) lately since the forum is so high on him. He has great hands (I mean truly great) and tenacity. He can bend and dip and swim. My worry is that his athleticism isn't going to translate well to the NFL and he needs to be smarter with the way he sets up tackles. I'm no longer leaning that it's a coaching issue as you see the technique and it is there but more of a player issue. He needs to understand that he can setup the tackle to make his job easier and sometimes take the inside gap without "swimming" to take advantage of one of his best attributes, his strength. The plus on him is that he has room to grow which is crazy with how good he already is. I'm still not convinced though he is the right guy at 3.
Smith on the other hand is the real deal. But I tend to stay away from mentioning his name as this forum is very stringent on positional value even in sight of some truly elite prospects. But Smith is everything you want in an ILB who can be one of those players that never comes off the field even in pass packages.
ballard will take the elite player regardless of position, never taking certain positions high are fan and this forum rules

With a healthy Luck, and a should be much improved roster with top 3 draft picks in each round, and among the top in cap space for free agency, yes this team should contend for the AFC South Title first and foremost, provided the coaching staff is better than the previous regime, which I would hope that's the case. Not sure I'd say Super Bowl ready just yet though. This team is very young and needs some playoff experience outside of Luck, Hankins, Sheard, and others on the roster who've been to the playoffs.
I could easily see both the Colts and Texans bouncing back and being the top 2 teams in 2018 in the division and the Jags and Titans being slightly below them. Could make for an interesting division race.
the texans with watson back on paper should be the elite of our division

i have to disagree about hooker and wilson
hooker was good at playing the ball in the air, but not much else. he wasnt good at tackling or cleaning up plays the LBs missed. id like to see that out of a FS. ftr pff rated him as average, so not bad for a rookie but not what i would call good yet either
to me wilson looked like he had a ways to go early on. he finished better than he started, but im not sure i would put him out there over melvin, desir or hairstone
most draft picks take a while to see if they can play in the nfl

I would love Barkley on this team too, but I think a lot of it depends on what Ballard does to improve this OL in free agency. If Barkley is brought in, he needs to have an improved OL to run behind.
i dont hink ballard will want new draft picks on the o-line , he will want proven talent to protect luck

And if you watch a highlight reel of Chubb you'll never see him miss a tackle or not make a play. Highlight reels only show the good, of course he's going to look amazing.
we should draft the most elite player not sure chubb is elite

Well there's and interesting group of canadates! I like MacDaniels offense but he was VERY immature in Denver read on here somewhere a nice article about how he has potential changed maybe? For me he's always been an easy guy to hate! Toub and Nagy ahhhhh ok would know really nothing about them other than a few articles which painted both in a good light maybe there ok the whole KC thing makes me feel weird? I guess it's ok that Ballard likes them! Verbal that one surprised me and Wilks I know nothing about I would think the are long shots!
i will say this though Irsay said and I believe it that Ballards doing the Heavy lifting so to speak in the search, I can guarantee you he won't bring in a guy that diminishes the role of the GM so I think there will be no Harbaugh or Gruden !
and no belichick,

A stronger arm than ever (hopefully) -- and I will win the Powerball lottery this year (hopefully). I understand why the owner of the Colts whose business depends on Luck's good health would spout such stuff, but have no idea why anyone else would. Luck will hopefully play again, but he's not the Bionic Man.
if the super glue holds he will be as good as new

i concur, being good in college does not mean they can cut it in the nfl, i dont expect much from draft picks in year one and a lot of them are not on the team but a short time, draft picks are a crapshoot, i dont get excited about them
