I don't expect to get details about every trade deal discussed between GM's but you would think by this point we would know what the Niners actually expect to get for Jimmy G, or what has been offered and rejected so we know that they that is not enough.

This makes you wonder just how badly the Colts want Jimmy G. If they really think he is the guy to lead the team for the next few years, then this would be the time to pull the trigger. Maybe if San Francisco has their price set too high they will reconsider although I heard this morning that the Browns may now be interested in Garoppolo if they move on from Mayfield. Plus, once Watson is off the table, the teams competing for him may take a second look at Garoppolo as well.

Can anyone confirm for me if the Colts have actually made a trade offer to another team to get a new QB this season? This is a serious question. We were supposedly interested in Russell Wilson, but did we actually ever submit an offer to Seattle? We have been linked closely to Carr, Garoppolo, Mariota, Minshew and others but have we really ever put an offer on the table anywhere? You would think with all of the reports and rumors out there we would at least hear that the Colts have made specific offers for specific players. I have never seen this confirmed yet. If we were seriously going after Carr or Garoppolo than you would think that reports would leak that the Colts have actually offered picks, players, whatever. Can anyone confirm this?

I am not sure about Mayfield. He has been good at times but mediocre at others. The situation begs many questions? Why do the Browns want to move on from Mayfield? Maybe they don't want to pay him big money for fair results? Maybe there is something they don't like about him? Subsequently, who would the Browns be moving on to? Deshaun Watson? If not, then whom?

I agree. I have mentioned this several times on this forum. I think the Colts approach cap manipulation like they do free agency, very conservatively. The Saints were in cap space hell to start the FA new year and now all of the sudden they are the leading candidates to land Watson and his $40 million contract? The avid Ballard supporters on the forum always assure me that Ballard and his accountants are working their magic behind the scenes but we never see it in real life.

I was thinking the same thing. Teams have to be frustrated that the Niners seem to be waffling on whether they actually want to trade Jimmy G. at this point. On top of that they are going to hold a meeting with Deshaun Watson? This makes me think their belief in Lance as the future of the Niners may be a bit of a smokescreen.

Great questions! This is a good, objective, comparison to a divisional opponent. There is a reason we are the only team in the division to not win a divisional championship since 2015. Management, coaching, and Luck leaving unexpectedly all play a role for better or worse. But we can only make excuses for so long. We need to identify what is not working and make changes (be it strategy, management, or player personnel) so we are at least on par with our divisional opponents.

I agree, the Colts could trade to fill some of their many holes. Teams were doing it all week leading up to FA (Amari Cooper to Browns for 5th and 6th rounders). But, it is a catch 22 for Ballard because he only uses the draft to build this team. Therefore, he cannot give up any of his precious draft picks that he so highly covets. See the predicament? Won't sign free agents, won't trade draft picks to fill needs. This means you have to hit home runs in the draft constantly or wait 3-5 years for players to develop. When those players do not develop into producers, the team simply does not get better.
