  1. Y`All need to keep in mind... (so long as hes on the Jaguars Practice Squad)at any time the Colts can Activate John Chick by simply adding him to the Colts Roster...

Do ya think this might have crossed John Chicks mind :)

    Reading comprehension, my friend.

Chick was added to the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice roster on Sunday

after turning down a practice roster spot with the Colts.

According to Chick's representatives, they feel that the 28-year-old defensive end has a better chance to be activated this season in Jacksonville.

Sure enough, John Chick was activated from the Jaguars practice squad today.

  2. The one big thing that I am looking for that is not on your list (because it is not X's and O's):

    INTANGIBLES

What kind of fight does this team have in it without Manning at the helm? When they struggle (and they WILL struggle), will they roll over and die or will they dig in and fight through to the end? There is a lot of veteran leadership on this team, but do they really believe that they are a good team even without Manning, or are there seeds of doubt that will take root and choke their confidence when they get smacked around? Losing Manning will be a huge blow, but do they have the resilience to rebound and fight it out?

The Colts fan in me hates the possibility of losing Manning for the entire season. The football fan in me is very interested to see how it is going to play out, though. We will settle once and for all the debate about just how much Manning carries this team.

  3. ...and * john chick!

This is the only part of your post I don't agree with. The guy made what he felt was the best move for his career, and he was right. It is doubtful that he would have been bumped up to the active roster as a Colt. He has already been bumped up to the active roster in Jacksonville. I can't fault the guy for going to a team that wants him on the active roster. His goal is to play, and I wouldn't want him on our team if it wasn't.

The Colts brought Chick in when no other team in the NFL wanted him. It's my understanding that even though he was on the PS he was getting paid more than an average PS player. The Colts had him play against #1 players, which gave other teams an indication of his talent. That upped his value.

Sure, he'll want to show the Colts what they missed, but I'd say he's very grateful to them.

This is what kind of bothers me about the situation. By all accounts, Chick pretty much played as well as anybody could have expected him to. I would say he met expectations, but they still cut him in the end. Now if they feel that Hughes has more potential and could be a better player in the long haul while Chick has pretty much maxed out his potential, I don't have a problem with that. Keep Hughes for the potential future reward. I'm fine with that. But why bring Chick in at all if they weren't going to keep him even if he met expectations? All they did by bringing him in was alert other teams to a player that probably would not have shown up on anybody else's radar otherwise. They pretty much scouted him out for the opposition.

  4. But how is it any different than taking the snap in a game you have no real intention of winning at the end of the year?

One is a game that he was actually available for if needed, but the coaching staff made a deliberate decision to play backups instead of the normal starters for strategic reasons.

The other is a game that he was not available for and would have been played by the coaching staff if he was available.

If you can't see the difference between the two, then I don't know what to tell you.

  5. I will say this, if Manning misses his first game for this issue, I would guess this is a 4-6 week loss of his services because I don't think he just misses one or two games for the playing streak record.

Honestly, I hope that the playing streak record doesn't factor into this in any way. It should solely be about whether or not he is physically ready to go. Don't rush him back sooner than is prudent just to keep his streak alive. On the other hand, don't hold him out longer than necessary just because the streak was already broken. Whenever he is completely physically and mentally ready to play, that is when he should come back. If he is fully ready to go in Week 3, then he should play in Week 3. No sooner; no later.

  6. I still think so many people are underestimating Kerry Collins. I'm not guaranteeing he will play well but he is definitely capable and hopefully all the doubters will light a fire under his you know what.

I would feel better about Collins if he had been brought on board earlier in the preseason to start learning the offense and getting familiar with the receivers. I wanted Collins (as a realistic option, Favre was pie in the sky in my opinion, no way he was going to come here and back up Manning) if Manning was not able to go in Week 1, but I don't like how long the Colts waited to bring him in. I posted in another thread before Collins was signed that if there was any chance that Manning would not be ready to go by Week 1, his replacement needed to be on the roster NOW. I liked the Collins signing, but I didn't like the timing.

  7. I am also surprised that McNeil (TE) made the cut. Not that he was bad, I just did not think the Colts would keep 4 TEs.

It's all part of the plan. They need 4 TEs on the roster to unveil Caldwell's brainchild...the 4-TE set.

  8. Oh, and the 2-time Pro Bowl part is a joke. The only reason he ever made the Pro Bowl was because all of the better safeties (Reed/Polamalu, etc) were either injured or decided not to play. He was actually the 5th or 6th pick.

Isn't that true of most Pro Bowlers these days? Given the tendency of elite players to forego the Pro Bowl in recent years and the inability of Super Bowl participants to participate, being a Pro Bowler no longer has the prestige that it used to. It pretty much just means that you were serviceable or better throughout the year.

  9. Peyton cares only about his team winning, and if he doesn't think he can give them the best shot then he will not play. Just recall the Afc championship game against the pats. Peyton on the last drive of the game injured his fingers and he told Sorgi to start warming up. Peyton would not jepordize his career and the colt's chance of winning just to show some bravdo by playing.

I'm pretty sure he was just trying to see if he could get Sorgi to pee his pants. He and Saturday probably had a bet riding on it.
