  1. Somebody up there must love me because next Friday the Colts Fan Fest is coming to my town of La Porte for the 3rd time!!

Looking at the schedule it is the only Fan Fest stop for a long way so I feel pretty good about where I live now, the Colts know La Porte is behind them all the way! It was great when they came here in 2007 and brought the Lombardi trophy with them--I asked all my Bear fan friends is their team was going to come here and show off their 2nd place trophy....they didn't think it was very funny.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it next week, they are going to be at the High School looking at the address supplied so if anyone plans on being there, maybe I'll see you there!!

  2. I can sorta understand how the label came about and stuck for a while.

But with so many late-season vomit jobs and a long drought of playoff success such as the Cowpies have suffered since the Aikman/Smith/Irvin era.....and the ever-present drama of one sort or another....the "America's Team" label has become pretty ridiculous for anyone to apply to Dallas.

It's like any nickname like "Steel Curtain, Purple People Eaters, Monsters of the Midway, or Greatest Show on Turf" they had their moments they they were N/A.
  3. Someone needs to make a TV documentary on the Indianapolis Colts with a cool voiced narrator, then we too will be "America's Team."

Too bad John Facenda passed away, his nickname was "the voice of God" his is the one I think of when NFL films are playing, he would have been my pick for your highlights film.
  4. We're the only country that plays AMERICAN football, English rugby is football and in the rest of the world soccer is football...now I'll quit picking nits.

They were Americas team because of a highlight film in 1978 that opened with this:

They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team".

    And the rest is history.......

  5. I like the way you think but you blew right past Minnesota, Cleveland, and Kansas City and while I don't think Houston is as good as everyone thinks, the Colts might lose both to them so I'm thinking 6-10 is more like it and actually that isn't bad.

  6. 1) Freeney has a huge cap number for 2012, but not really a huge contract. Manning was due $28 million in one lump sum; Freeney is due half of that over the course of the season.

    2) Manning just missed an entire season with an injury that can be difficult to rebound from.

    3) The Colts had to make a decision on Manning's contract by early March; the Colts really don't have any kind of decision to make on Freeney's contract.

    4) The terms of the CBA and Freeney's contract make it possible for the Colts and Freeney to negotiate new terms for his contract; the Colts couldn't negotiate the $28 million option bonus.

    5) The Colts had the chance to draft the highest rated QB prospect in over a decade, and you can't play two quarterbacks.

I really don't think it's close to the same circumstances, otherwise, Freeney would be gone also. I get your point: If Manning can be let go, then so can Freeney. And that's true. But the motivating factors in the Manning situation don't apply to Freeney. That's all I'm saying.

Well after they released Manning invalidating the bonus they chose not to renegotiate so while I don't see that as a valid point, 2, 3, 4 to me are non issues considering doctors reports about his rehab, and again after release Manning would have been in negotiation mode after his statement desiring to remain a Colt. The last point is key because it is what made the difference because if Luck hadn't been available Irsay would have been more conducive to renegotiation with his present quarterback. I'm not trying to be argumentative I just don't see that big a difference in the two cases but I'm gonna let it go.

Thank you for the discussion, I enjoy it.

  7. There is a huge difference between Manning and Freeney contracts. If they kept Manning with his contract, they would have been locked in for 4 more years and the way the contract was set up, if they released him later the cap hit would have been enormous. Freeney has one season to prove himself. I don't think he has to be dominant. He has to be good. Worthy of being a stater and then be paid accordingly. He won't be released or traded prior to the season or during the season. If he doesn't fit as an OLB at all, they will use him as a 4-3 DE in the four man fronts. I see no reason why he wont have success.

To say that it doesn't matter if he wants to stay is foolish. If he truly means what he said, he will take a reasonable offer from the colts. He wont demand top of the league money just like Wayne. If he plays well and wants to be a colt, he will be. No comparison to the Manning situation

I always heard size doesn't matter, oh yeah in contracts i guess it does...but really they are similar but of course not the same so I feel it is fair to compare the two, they are just different in size like an apple is to the whole tree.
  8. Yes, I know. Just saying, it's not the same thing.

Speaking only for myself, I have no ill feelings toward Freeney, and I still think he's one of the best in the league. But I don't think we should pay him a base salary of $14 million in 2012.

They are both players, they both were Colts, they both have huge contracts, so other than the fact that Manning is a living legend how is it different?
  9. LOL Thank You for the laugh,Flacco has pulled out that hes Elite lol.

Whats wrong with Flacco? Except for his failure in clutch playoff situations, he is among the best and I didn't include Brady or Manning because I was trying for younger QBs that will last MORE than the next couple of years.
  10. It doenst sound like John Elway is going to be visiting Peyton there...

Sounds like he lost it in the divorce

They got the land from Elways wife, Shanahan had the house built so John probably doesn't have any emotional attachment to the trees and grass that would stop him from visiting.....
  11. Guys we all know the real reason he chose Denver. So when 2012 actually does happen he can just go the underground airport and be safe from all the heck that is supposedly going to be happening

Oh, they cancelled the "end of the world" party. Nobody wanted to go......
  12. I think Peyton belongs, simply because it is the top players of 2012. He didn't play in 2011, but that doesn't mean he is expected to not be Peyton in 2012.

If he plays, he is easily a top 50 player in the NFL, and he is expected to play. You HAVE to put him on the list.

Well the year before he was the top rated active player on the NFL Channels All Time list so a drop to 50 just puts him in position to be the "comeback kid of the year"
