  1. You're argument is hypocritical. You're basically saying to do away with judgment calls but at the same time saying that the ref should have known that he wouldn't have caught if it wasn't for the ground and should of ruled it incomplete based on a hypothetical. The only way your argument makes sense is for the ref to judge that he wouldn't have caught the ball without the ground, but say above that ref judgement shouldn't be used.

    COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

Article 3  Completed or Intercepted Pass. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward

pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

     (a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

     (b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

© maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to

perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it,

advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

Note 1: It is not necessary that he commit such an act, provided that he maintains control of the ball long

     enough to do so.

Note 2: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of

possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

If the player loses the ball while simultaneously touching both feet or any part of his body other than his hands

to the ground, or if there is any doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is not a catch.

Item 1:  Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or

without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting

the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches

the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching

the ground, the pass is complete.

This is the NFL's rule on completed passes. Do u believe that the play in question the player controlled the ball all the way through? Did he regain control before the ball hit the ground? Theres no way
  2. He was bobbling but he never lost possession.

Here's another way to look at it. If the ball does not hit the ground during this play, he doesn't maintain posession and the ball comes free. The ground assisted in him catching the ball. To me its that same as trapping the ball in flight. bobble bobble hit the ground and trap it between your hand the ground and your body and its ok? Please. As I say its stupid.

  3. He was bobbling but he never lost possession.

I understand he never lost possession. The ball hit the ground as he was bobbling it. Im not the only one who thought that this equals an incomplete pass. Harbaugh was extremely upset and Im sure he had the same opinion as me. If you are going to the ground and bobbling the ball and the ball hits the ground, even though you still maintained possession, its incomplete. Ive seen a million times where a player had a solid grab on the ball and in the process of going to the ground or catching the ball the ball hits the turf its called incomplete. It just seems very stupid to me that a play like this can be a complete pass, yet a play like Avery's where he is actually knocked to the ground with complete control of the ball and in the continuation of contact(after hes on the ground)the ball is knocked free by another players leg and its incomplete. It just make no sense what so ever.

  4. Mike Peraira came on and explained afterwards that the ball can touch the grown as long as the receiver doesn't let go of the ball. His hand was on the ball the whole time.

OK. As I say. If that is the case in my opinion that makes absolutely no sense what so ever. A player can use the ground to assist in holding on to the ball as long as he has a hand on the ball? That, in my opinion was the case. He was bobbling the ball as he was going to the ground, this cannot be disputed it was moving all over the place. His hand was on the ball as he goes to the ground and the bottom of the ball hits the ground and becomes trapped between the players hand, the ground and his stomach. Yep, completed pass. As I say, the NFL is losing a lot of respect with the nonsense and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

  5. The play in our game that I am referring to I believe was Donny Avery. He catches the ball, clearly, takes a step or two, one defensive player knocks him to the ground. He hits the ground and starts to roll from his front to his back. As he does he's still clutching the ball, as he rolls to his back a Ravens player, I believe Ellerbe, hits Avery with his knee or foot and the ball is knocked out. I guess the only way to safely say a pass is completed is if the reciever holds it and carries it back to the huddle with him.

  6. Bad calls are made on every sport. Deal with it and move on.

Refs are human and I honestly don't think that was PI.

I understand mistakes get made. Its frustrating to watch a game, especially one with so much on the line, and see the officials become the focus of the game like they did in the first half of the broncos game. Then, you have the completed pass definition that seems to be an enigma.

  7. The officiating has been questionable at best so far this post season. That's my opinion and I beleive the opinion of a lot of other fans. The first half of the Broncos/Ravens game was a joke. There are two plays that I want to discuss with anyone interested.

    1) Colts/Ravens game: I don't recall who our reciever was. He caught the ball took a couple of steps was tackled to the ground rolled over while on the ground, with the ball still in his hands, and another defender came in and hit the players hands/ball with his knee and the ball popped out. The play was ultimately ruled an incomplete pass.

    2) Falcons/49ers game: wide open reciever for the falcons stumbles as he catches the ball. As hes falling to the ground the ball is bobbling and coming free. There was one angle that clearly showed the football touch the turf under the player. 49ers challenge and the play stands as a complete pass.

Ive gotten sick and tired of the replay system. The boneheaded definition of what a completed pass is and how it seems to change from game to game. In my opinion this is the biggest area that the NFL needs to clean up. These games, as we all know, come down to a handful of critical plays, and in my opinion the officials, especially in the playoffs, are deciding too many plays/games.

Ive been a fan of the NFL for a long time but I'm getting sick of the way the passing game has taken over the game, the way the officials control the passing game. Fix it please.

  8. PFT has an article up saying that with Broncos O.C. Mike McCoy possibly getting a head coaching gig, Denver could possibly bring in Clyde as the O.C.. So hypothetically we could lose Bruce Arians, and Clyde Christensen. So a lot of people around here may be very happy soon. Thank goodness Andrew Luck is a genius when it comes to learning playbooks.

This would assume that the Colts would not be interesting in offering him the opening that we now have. I think it's premature to assume that Clyde would not be in consideration for Arians job.

  9. They want to keep Arians' system.  It will be Clyde, I'm sure.

I think it will be clyde also. I wouldnt minde seeing Tom Moore brought in as a "consultant" or whatever you want to call it. I think the important thing is for some continuity. Clyde worked under Arians this year and Tom Moore for many years. I know there are people out there that aren't clyde fans but I think he's the logical choice here.

  10. The Chiefs' numbers were better than the Colts numbers, so it is a small upgrade, IMO. See my post above with some numbers.

Ultimately, it is about Johnnys and Joes, not just Xs and Os, applies to ST as well.

Agreed. Players play coaches coach. I thought our special teams were solid this  year as opposed to the previous coaching staff. hope that continues with this new hire

  11. A lot of high hopes for next year are floating around the board. That's great. I'm excited too. i definitely think we should be back pushing Houston for the division crown. Here's a little more detail on what I hope to see play out for next year.

Luck: should take a pretty good step forward as we would hope to give him better pass protection and having a year  under his belt should make his decision making that much better. I was really impressed with his arm strength and his accuracy got a lot better as the season went on. I expect him to be in the 25 td range vs 10 or 12 int's.

Dewayne Allen: I think he scores 8 td's and has 800 plus yards next year. He's a great target with all the skills for a TE.

Vick Ballard: He really impressed me down the stretch this year. Ran really hard and showed he has just enough speed to turn the corner when he has to. Great inside running. I don't expect him to be the next Frank Gore but he'll push 1000 yards next year and Donald Brown will be fighting for playing time.

T.Y. Hilton: He was a great compliment to Wayne this year. He was that deep threat we needed and I expect 20 more catches from him next year.

Off season: I hope that Grigson sees the offensive line as the biggest area of needed upgrade. I thought the run blocking was much improved this year(and that's not saying much)but the pass protection was scary most of the time.

After that I think the Defensive front 7 has areas to fill and we need another corner. I beleive Freeney is gone so the next biggest need, in my opinion besides OL, is OLB/DE. With the job that Grigson did this last off season bringing in guys who over-acheived I expect him to bring in some guys in FA that he can spend a little more $ on and get even better results. This off season should be fun.

  12. We were one game out for the division this year!!! The AFC is getting weaker as stars are aging.

People used to say for years as long as we had Peyton we would make the playoffs and compete. Who says the same can't be said for this era with Luck? Has he not shown us A TON in his rookie year? This guy is going to be ridiculously good people and he is crazy smart/poised too.

Our future is bright. I can't wait for September again.

Exactly. Luck really impressed me in the Ravens game. Under constant pressure he still threaded the needle most of the time. His arm is strong and accurate. We have to PROTECT him better. Do that and we contend every  year. Very happy with the young players that were brought in this year. But, that o-line has to get better. I think I heard during the broadcast of the Ravens game that no QB had been knocked down more this year than Luck was. That's got to improve.

  13. So Mike Mularkey has been fired from the Jags...He hasn't been the most successfulHead Coach but was a great OC in Atlanta...they def had a balanced attack, with that said what do you all think about him as the new OC?

I'd rather have Clyde. Clyde would be familiar with Tom Moore's offense as well as Arians(who worked with Tom Moore)so I think there would be lots of similarities for Luck going forward. Plus Clyde was Luck's QB coach this year and if you want stability the logical choice is Clyde.

  14. I don't know why everybody is assuming that BA is Telesco's 1st choice. They have exactly 1 season of history with each other and IMO Telesco is a Polian/Dungy/Cladwell type guy and may look to a guy like Lovie Smith. Maybe Telesco does like Arians, but IMO I don't think Arians is going to be Telesco's 1st choice.

Well as you say he could be a Caldwell/Dungy guy but I think with Tom being so close to the situation with the Colts this season he would have seen first hand hous Arians handled the team and would know more closely how Bruce is. Don't forget that Arians was also on the staff back in the late 90's and Telesco was around then also if I'm not mistaken. So, it wouldn't be just 1 year of familiarity. But like anything else in the professional word the managers know in their inner circle who they would work well with and who they wouldn't. The coaching/nfl world is a tight circle and I'm quite sure Telesco and all other front office people are well acquainted with many coaches so I guess you could be right in that respect.

  15. I'd prefer not to lose Telesco. He does his job extremely well for us.

Agreed. His talent will be missed. IDK who moves  up or comes in to replace him but you can't argue that for the vast majority of the time he was here the Colts brought in tons of talented players. I hate to see him to to an AFC team. Luckily it isn't in our own division. I think this guy will have SD in the playoff next year. Unfortunately for us I would imagine Arians is #1 on his list of coaches too.

  16. Did anyone see this coming.?

What was the knock on him coming out of college??

    Too small. Small College..Funny name?

    What was it?

As I said in another post I hoped he would be this type of player. he certainly was one of the fastest players in the draft last year and I remember reading a couple of articles about his big play ability in college. But ya I think the knock on him was that he wasn't big and he came from smaller school. So, we got a steal. Perfect

  17. i think by year 3 we will be a power house

agree we are still a couple drafts away from full potential. We have a few cornerstones in place. To build a true championship team you need cornerstones.

    1) U need a true franchise qb. check

    2) U need a stud left tackle to protect that qb. check

    3) U need a true pass rushing DE/olb. we have one need another one(freeney is gone)

    4) U need adequate offensive weapons that your qb can feed the ball to. check but we still need to replace reggie in a year or two.

Sprinkle in a few more playmakers on defense and a couple more offensive linemen and you've got a championship caliber team.

  18. I seem to remember a couple of guys like oh I don't know, Terry Bradshaw, Chris Collinsworth and Sean Salisbury also hating on Peyton Manning. Can't win the big one, too soft, not enough desire blah blah blah. As another poster stated these guys write this stuff to get attention and attract people to read their stuff. Someone will be right in the long run. Personally I think that Luck had a great year for a rookie and should only get better. I also think that Luck, Wilson and RG3 played well enough to win the ROY. Personally I don't care who wins it. Awards are just popularity contests anyway. As far as Skip Bayless goes I think most people know he's a blowhard

  19. I think we'll bring Freeney back only if he comes Cheap. This Defense is heading into the right direction. Glad to see we have People who'll step up like Guy & Geathers. This has definitely been a Season to remember

Sorry to differ but I just don't agree about Freeney. I think this year showed that Freeney is a 4-3 DE and in my opinion he understands that very much. I fully expect him to move to a team that he knows plays a 4-3 and needs a speed rusher. He has 2 good years left and i think there will be a team who will throw a good amount of $ at him.

having said that I think Freeney is one of the all time great Colts. He came along when we desparately needed him and he was one of the cornerstones of a championship team. He is one of the all time great pass rushers in the modern game.

  20.  I'm excited about the young offensive skill players taking another step together. Luck, Allen, TY Hilton and even Fleener. They all should gel even more next year.

When we drafted Hilton I was optomistic that he would be that speed receiver we needed in order to keep a defense off balance. He had a great year for a rookie receiver.

Allen looks like a really good all around TE. He can block, catch, run and be a matchup problem for defenses.

I liked the 3-4 defense. They weren't great but I think the scheme change was a breath of fresh air and if they can put a few more playmakers on that side of the ball I think our defense could be great. I liked the blitzes it was so much different than the vanilla 4-3 2 deep zone that we've had over the last 10 years.

Another thing I liked about our defense was that you didn't see CB's playing 8  yards off the ball. I was nice to see some tighter coverage and even with the scraps we picked up from the junk heap so to speak we had some guys make plays in the secondary.

Looking ahead I think the biggest needs are OL and OLB. I think we could upgrade at a lot of places on defense but with Freeney being a FA and the 3-4 being a defense that features OLB I think OLB is a need. Mathis made a nice transistion to the position this year but we need another guy who can rush off the edge.
