1st half grades-offense

QB: Luck has not played well, the inconsistent O-line play, less than steller play by the receivers and injuries haven't helped, but his judgement, reads, accuracy and overall production is more like a journeyman backup, than an elite player. Hasselbeck has exceded expectations, even moreso considering his poor showing in the pre season and his performance vs the texans was one for the ages, with Luck out his production down the stretch is critical. grade:D

RB: Gore has been one of the few pluses in this years offense, is having a great year, despite being held back by the overall lack of consistency in the offense which has led to playing from behind. He is currently 44 yds from being the #1 rusher in the AFC. Varga-Robinson and Tipton have been non-factors. The recently signed Bradshaw has been an upgrade. Grade:A

TE: In today's NFL, the TE position is a huge key for sucess in most of the elite teams game plans and despite the fact we have 2 that are both very good, this position's production has been noticably absent in the first half. Fleener has been decent, but the big plays have not been as frequent and Allen has a total of 9 catches...............very puzzling!!! Grade: F

WR: Hilton's overall production has been very good, he is currently 50 yds from being #3 in the AFC, despite several games where he was shutdown. Moncrief has had a very good year and has been huge for the offense due to the lack of production from the rest of the group, with a great finish could even come close to a 1,000 yd season and leads the team with 5 TD's. Johnson has been a major disapointment, Dorsett has not been used much, is now hurt and Whalen has made big plays the last few weeks. Grade: C

O-L: Castonzo is the player that most people think is the best of the group, has had maybe the worst year to date and has struggled big time. Mewhort did not play well at RT , but has been solid , back at G. Reitz-Thortan and Holmes are all average, at best. Harrison has filled in for Holmes and there has not been a noticable dropoff. The backups are nothing to get excited about and an injury to one of the starters could be fatal. The overall production has been better since the tweaking, but this is still a group that needs significant upgrading.Grade: D

Summary: Take away Gore's and Moncrief's production and we are looking at maybe one of the least productive offenses in the entire league, from what was supossed to be potentially one of the best!! Hamilton did play a part in the lack of production, but players still need to make plays. Luck's overall play has been just as big, he is the offense and if he is playing poorly, it's not going to be productive. Grade: D

Another great analysis COLTS7.  I can only hope the rumblings & rumors

about Pagano & Grigson are for real.  I can only repeat, Grigson destroyed the fabric of this team with many poor draft choices and free agent signings. We are the OLDEST team in the league. Pagano is at fault for not "fixing  the problems" which he declares  he will do at every presser.  We don't have SB caliber talent at too many important positions, mostly along either O or D lines.  Grigson brought in  bullets but he didn't know the gun he was trying to load.

thanks , as always, appreciate the input EDCB....the more I think about it, the more I would like to see Pagano stay on, he does lack some of those elite coaching skills, but is still learning and I think the fact that the players love him and would run through a brick wall for him, more than makes for that lack of intangibles...Grigson is also learning and maybe someday will be that guy, but as of now, he is the problem

Colts7, I feel the same way about Pagano and Grigs. Seems that Pagano is a players coach and the players respect him. He's not a screamer or in your face guy but seems to have the respect of the players! The learning curve is more on Grgs than Pagano.

Respectfully to all who think that Grigson should be given some room to improve.  I say in this day & age, football is an unforgiving & demanding business.  You simply can't make as many mistakes as he has made and hope that he will learn on the job. You are talking about the guy whose sole job it is to identify the needs of a team

and bring in the talent to meet those needs and get it to the SB.  The only thing he has demonstrated is that he lacks the ability to do either.  If Pagano's conflict with him

is about the talent he is trying to coach, then maybe I can be persuaded in seeing him continue.

The strange thing about Grigson is you would think he would get better, each year, learn as he goes and it seems like just the oppisite, each year, he seems to get worse. Hard to forecast what irsay is thinking, he seems to like Grigson, he has some tough decisions to make and the future of this era, depends on what those are.

C, is more like it. Overall. None of the intangibles are mentioned here. None.

Takeaway the crucial turnovers & penalties this team has produced over the season, and it's a different ballgame here. 7 games, off the top of my head. Understand the frustration, however, everything this team has gone through from injuries to supposed organizational command issues coupled with what I've mentioned doesn't deserve a "D" overall @ 4-5.

Appreciate your assessment, Colts7. We just differ 1 grade.

No disrespect to C7 on his grading of the offense blog but and somehow this has turned into a keep/fire Grigs/Pagano blog. Sorry C7! Both came in as

rookies in their given position and both performed admirably, personally I would say Pagano more so than Grigs. I think Grigs job is more demanding but that's the job description. Are we at the level/position we'd like to be? No! Did Grigs get the players Pagano/team needs? No! Yes he tried but the players did not pan out. Did Pagano coach the team to where we as fans want? No! You could say Grigs did not stock the cupboard with proper player but nonetheless he's the coach. With that said my 2 cents and $5.00 will get me a Happy Meal at Micky D's! Ok if both Pagano and Grigs are gone at the end of the season, I'm fine with that. If I had to choose one then I'd keep Pagano
