The Colts made a surprising move. The Colts waived WR Griff Whalen. Whalen had only played three games this year after being on Injured Reserve all of last year. Whalen had caught two passes for 28 yards this season. I thought Whalen was going to be in the mix since Luck and him know the playbook well like Fleener because all three of them played at Stanford, and now running the Stanford Offense under Pep Hamilton. Whalen will most likely clear waivers and the Colts will sign him to the practice squad.
To take his roster spot, the Colts signed FB Robert Hughes, who played in five games last year for the Colts. I don't know why you would sign him since you have a well-rounded fullback in Stanley Havili and a decent backup with TE Dominique Jones. Also, WR LaVon Brazill is officially done with his four-game suspension. Depending how well he plays during practice, will indicate if he will be active for Week 5 vs. the Seahawks. The Colts will have 53 players on the roster without Brazill so someone will have to be waived/released. If he is not activated or not taken off the reserve list, I don't think he would have to come back on the roster right now. If he has to be placed back on the roster, a player will have to be removed.
