No no SW1, I just think it teaches values and the positives. If you don't do it it's not disrespect but by doing it showing the respect. Example - there many cultural stones/rock formations here and with me walking past and not doing anything is not disrespectful but if I do a lite cleaning of it I'll be showing respect.

Japanese children may indeed associate a clean environment with morality "cleanliness is next to Godliness", but I don't infer values based strictly on 1's overall appearance. Sure, being well groomed & neat may indicate professionalism & pride. No argument there, but a clean appearance does not always equal values or a high moral code of behavior. It can, but it's not mutually exclusive either.
