I am bad 11 million a yr for Freeney? He is good but not that good.
He is the D's Peyton. What would our D be without two monster pass rushers?
Worse. Seems impossible, but we would be worse. 82-7 Bad.

We are not going to draft a QB No.1 when we have 5 holes to fill on defense...
We draft for future need A LOT. If we are #1, we take a QB.

I refuse to try to make sense of this jumble.

(first time poster, long time fan here)
I am a teacher in CA moved here from Muncie a few years ago,
every monday morning my students are relentless...
It's rough having 14 & 15 year olds turning the ole dagger of defeat non-stop, especially from Charger fans ...
It's getting to the point some of them are gonna start getting detention....
I am a teacher too, so I hear stuff from students. But, being in Louisville the Colts are very popular. (Not as much this year, of course)
I don't mind, I am rocking a Colts hoodie today!

I'll try to contain the overwhelming shock I feel after seeing who has the only "yes" vote so far. *sarcasm alert*
SHOCKING!
:duh:

Unfortunately, we will have a shot at "the Number 1 pick" whether or not we fold.
I hated "the desicion" but I was fully expecting it, so I didn't freak out as bad as some other members of the forum.
But we won't lay down now. Some guys are playing for contracts (here or otherwise). Some even for HoF consideration. We will not lay down, but we will pick top 3 for sure!

Sports are based off of stats...you can ignore that, but that doesn't make it false.
Ummmmm, what? STATS are based off of SPORTS, not the other way around.
I could come up with any number of silly metrics to prove about any D is better or worse than it is.
POINTS is the measure that matters. And, I don't know, say watching the units to see what is going on.

Too soon to judge the last 3
No, Brown sucks, generally.

I would add Marlin Jackson to the list of non-misses. Marlin Jackson was great at providing run support from the nickel and the fact that our DT position was never consistently good (due to luck or lack of drafted depth) led to him taking more FBs/TEs/OLs on and did contribute to his injury history, IMO. When healthy, he produced real well. Same with Gonzo, IMO - produced well when healthy. But 3 unhealthy years out of 5 would end up being bad if he cannot have a resurgence this year.
Gonzo was drafted to replace Harrison, Brown to replace Addai and Hughes to replace Mathis/Freeney.
Brown and Hughes are the ones who have been mostly healthy but ineffective more than not when healthy.
And didn't Marlin fill in at safety some too?

I think he's done a terrific job of, given where we are from a standpoint of personnel.
I tend to disagree.

So if you put a rookie QB in there with little to no experience of NFL games they are still the best team in the NFL? Really?
Maybe not the best. But their backup is better than Painter and they have a D and all kids of playmakers. But the Q was if they would make the playoffs. Quite possible yes.

As to the OP - what can a fan do? We can just watch this nightmare season unfold, hope for a win, hope for #1 pick.
I am rooting for both - I know they are contradictory, but hey, I don't have to be rational.
And Caldwell is proving his haters right. Look at the slide he has been on!

Almost is still a loss...do the GB packers make the playoffs without Rogers?
Yes, they are stacked!

Let's clear up a couple of things.
- This isn't Manning's decision. At all. If he makes it his or tries to, he's being selfish. I don't see him doing anything of the sort.
- This is all Phil Simms speculating. Let me repeat that. This is nothing but speculation. Phil Simms could write that Manning will demand a 400 foot bronze statue of himself erected outside of LOS and that doesn't mean a thing.
- This argument about money is silly as Pacolts already pointed out. The new CBA ensures we won't be paying what some think we will be paying. That's why they put it in, so that drafting a player doesn't become prohibitive.
- Having Luck learn under Manning for a few years is not a bad thing. It's actually quite the opposite. Nothing could be better for a young QB than to spend a year or three watching Peyton Manning prepare to be an NFL QB. Learning what is expected and what it takes to succede in the NFL. Greatness is what happens when talent and hardwork meet.
- Trading the pick to attempt to rebuild the team for the expressed purpose of getting Manning another superbowl isn't likely to succede either. These are rookies we're talking about. Even highly drafted ones will likely have a period of learning to play in the NFL before they are really productive. It's not realistic to expect to draft a bunch of rookies and go right to a superbowl. Yeah, it could happen, but filling your hopes and dreams on that happening is likely to end in disappointment.
-Not saying that trading the pick wouldn't be an option, but to expect these guys to come in as rookies and be the pieces that lead us to a superbowl isn't. If we do that, it's again long term.

I would love Gruden. How about SOME emotion from a coach. Like he actually gives a care.
-
Would like to see Painter work the middle of the field a little more.
-
Colts - the team that has the worst backstabbing fans in history of the league. The fans that will turn on the team because of one bad season.
Really? The freakin Jets get booed at home for a 3 and out.
-
Ummm, we just suck.
-
I'm Cory Simon.

It was their way of being nice?
-
Yards allowed is the same as weighing each D and sorting by that.
It means nothing.
We suck.

The forum and its' sub-forums is for all fans. Colts related threads belong in the colts forum but that forum too is for all fans as long as colts related.
The thread you question is probably debatable which forum it belongs in, colts forum or general forum, in that it touches on both teams.
I can move it to the general forum if you like.
JJ - I think it is very Colts related!
Reggie Wayne, Jeff Saturday And Robert Mathis Are All Scheduled For Free Agency In 2012
in Colts Football

If Hughes shows he can play DE like he was drafted for, Mathis is expendable. Now I realize that people are calling him a bust already, but he has shown up ocassionally in his very limited playing time. Remember, if you have 1 good pass rusher, you have 0 good pass rushers. So it needs to be Mathis or Hughes stepping up.
Pollak could step in for Jeff. Yes, Jeff is having a good year, but he is the most easily replaced.
And I agree, Reggie is not Reggie of Old anymore. But who replaces him? Could Collie play the outside? (Doesn't have the speed.) Do we draft a WR (that usually takes 2-3 years to develop). Gonzo (He is capable IF healthy).
So, to sum up, the rest of the roster has to be considered. And that is where Polian has been good up until now. He has looked 2-3 years ahead and prepared for the future.
Reggie needs to stay unless we can draft an NFL ready WR.
