I hear a lot about dumping MO, but who is the blocking te if he goes?

Y’know, Ogletree and Woods are both very large and athletic.  That should give them potential as blockers.  Neither may ever be as good of a in-line blocker as MO, but they’re not getting any better at it without reps!  At this point, I’d rather we give the PT to players that figure into our future than reap the incremental benefit from MO’s blocking this year.

My surprise pick…left nostril over the right one…I never saw it coming. haha

Pierce has been quite a disappointing pick so far, I really thought he was going to be a stud early on…I do think that AM easily has a chance to supplant him. Why does everyone refer to him as AD ? Just because his first two letters of his first name are that ? Seems odd to me…

I think I remember announcers calling him AD in the play-by-play.  I believe he goes by AD Mitchell…

  3. I’m also putting my money on Daniel Scott.  Seems like his name came up with Ballard a few times this offseason, and he seemed to be playing with the starters at OTAs.  Cross has had a weird time on the team.  Going into year 3, we have no idea if he is a future or present starter…

Any news on signings from the “invited” rookies at the mini camp?

I was keeping an eye out for that too.  Thinking back, I think some of those guys were signed later.  Michael Tutsie was signed in June last year…

Levi Bell at camp was a stud for Texas State.  Finished 2nd behind Latu in stats.  Would be a good grab.  Thought he wasn’t available until next draft class.  Guess need to update my information.  Hopefully the Colts can add Bell otherwise imagine Chargers grab him to pair with his brother.

Looked him up.  Levi came out last year and spent time with the Seahawks.  His brother Ben is still at Texas State…

If there’s one certainty about the WR corps after this camp, it’s that the new guy doesn’t skip leg day!

Well, yeah. The pre season power rankings are just like mock drafts. Meaningless once the real deal starts.
As for the Colts being the same as last year, I disagree. Their secondary is a year more experienced. That alone will help, as will a healthier TE group; JT being in playing shape from the get go; the WR corps is deeper and better; and they have a new young pass rush talent. I think the Colts are better.

The TEs will be huge.  Last year Granson was our #1 TE much of the year, and this year I see him being #4 (if he makes the team)…

I think I'm still trying to adjust my brain to having taken a player I didn't too much homework on at a position I didn't think we'd pick. So it's a "me thing" currently... I respect him going BPA. And trading back and still getting AD was an absolute masterclass.

Who do you guys think we were trying to trade up for, Odunze or Bowers?

It’s gotta be one of those two or Laiatu.  I guess I’d say Odunze, since TE didn’t end up being a position we hit at all, so there’s no proof CB considered it a need.  However, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t trade up for a unique talent (Bowers) for whom we have a “plan”…

  9. I had Latu figured for 97, since it’s the only ninety number left.  However, I just watched the Behind the Colts episode, and Thornton was showing him the locker room and said something like, “We’re still getting the # firmed up, but you should be right about here.”  They were at a locker with either 91 (Leo) or 92 (Avery) on it.

I hope so.  That's the number I gave him in Madden

I had a disturbing thought.  Was Moncrief #10?  Maybe Mitchell reminds me of Moncrief, and that’s why I want him to have #10!?

  11. I think we could use that 31-YO OT that we seem to often sign before TC.  A fringe roster type.  If you think Goncalves is a better IOL fit, then we only have 4 OTs on the roster…

I've watched 5 Missouri games from last season(South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, Kentucky, and Arkansas). Carlies is going to be very good, maybe even great. He hits like a Mack truck. He is 6-4, 227 and was playing single high safety a lot of plays. He is very fast. Twice in the LSU game he ran down Daniels(on a side note Daniels single handedly won that game for LSU). Carlies clinched the South Carolina game with an interception. He also played in the Cotton Bowl against Ohio State, a lot of guys anymore don't play in the bowl games, they sit out and start preparing for the draft. This guy is easily my favorite pick of this years draft. He will be on the field for plenty off snaps this season. In Ballards press conference yesterday he compared him to E.J. Speed a couple of times. Carlies also looks like an intelligent player on the field so I don't think he will have any problems adjusting to the position change. Thanks Ballard, great job as always. Go Colts!

He was also easily the best draft day interview.  Very well-spoken and humble sounding.  But, if I’m being fair, there were a lot of terrible draft day interviews this year…

Latu was so euphoric that he didn’t seem know where he was.  AD was so ticked off that he could hardly string together a sentence.  One of those OL was taking the call in a room with 100 people in it.  Simpson was outdoors and distracted…

    Respectfully….

I think there’s likely close to a zero point zero chance of only three tight ends.

Because that means no backup for one of the two spots.   I think Steichen would insist on two Y’s and two F’s.

We’ve gone with three before.  Heck, I could be wrong, but I think we only had three at the end of last year, with Woods on the IR and Ogletree on the exempt list…

  14. That DL will have savage competition.  I mean, Isaiah Land is very promising, but he’ll have to beat out Dayo or Lewis or something.  And Adebawore is going to have to show something to beat out Bryan and the versatile guys (Dayo, Lewis, Laulu, etc.) and Johnson.  It’s gonna be interesting to see how it washes out…

I’m currently high on Jaylon Carlies of Missouri.  He played Safety at Missouri, but I see him as a LB conversion.  Note that he had a RAS score of 9.08 as a FS, which I can only imagine puts him in the upper 9s for LB.  34 1/4 arms.  4.50 forty.  20bp.  6’3, 227lbs.

Feel like I nailed this one.  Makes up for the fact that my favorite fit was Mason McCormick by the end, and we passed him up twice for other IOLs (so I was obviously dead wrong!)…

Archer ... with a total of 5 points for nailing perfectly the Jaylon Carlies pick at #151.

    Congrats!!

The only other person to perfectly hit on a player for 5 points was Solid84 for picking Tanor Bortolini at #117, but he was deducted a point for predicting a trade back, which was wrong. Ohhh nooo!!!

Other shout outs go to jvan1973 and PureLuck, who both got 2 players right, but in the wrong slots.

I think it was Latu that threw us all off. We never thought we would get him and I think it affected all the picks after that resulting in our worse predictions collectively for the past 25 years of the contest!

Oh well ... next year will be different because Chad72 has agreed to take over this contest (maybe for the next 25 years?) and I am going to retire!

Thanks everyone for doing this every year with me. LOVE YOU ALL and GO COLTS!!

I’d like to thank the academy.  I’d like to thank whatever website I was reading when I first heard of Jaylon Carlies, which made me think, “Hmmm, that huge safety might make a fantastic LB for the Colts.”  But most of all, I’d like to thank Dr. T for conceiving of and running this contest for so long.  I’ve really enjoyed entering and hitting on zero players most years!

I’m not a fan of paying a center $14 million either. I’m glad Kelly bounced back under Tony S., but at his age and price I would like a center.

Still like McCormick for unspecified future IOL use…
