  1. Lets trade the first pick for an entire awesome secondary to a team that desperately needs Andrew Luck. I would be down with that.

AMEN to that! Getting Luck wouldn't get us to a superbowl. Getting an actual defense can! We can address the backup QB situation later in the draft. Teams with Eli Mannings, Matt Cassells, and the Mark Sanchez's of the world can get to the SB with an average QB. And Painter's shaping up to be more than average if we can get somebody that can actually call plays and Dallas Clark will stop dropping the ball!

  2. Coyer needs to go. And we need a Defensive Coach who can come up with more than one scheme and be able to make adjustments at the half if need be. In last night's Packers and Falcons game, nothing the Packers defense did was working a whole lot in the first half, but second half Dom Capers adjusted and Packers wound up winning.

In my opinion, the biggest reason why these guys probably can't learn a new defense in a week's time is because they've been using the same dang defense for way too long. They should be able to learn a new defense in a week's time. If other teams can, they can. Problem is, the coaches are too dang stubborn to admit that maybe what they're doing isn't working.

That's what I don't get. The first year Coyer came in he tweaked the defense and we were playing more aggressively, more bump and run, more blitzes, mores schemes. Why'd he quit? Do we just not have the personnel to be aggressive? Or did Polian tell him to cut it out?

  3. He had a great great great first half... but the fact of the matter is that he failed to make throws in the second half. He went 3 for 10 with 40 yards in the 2nd half, and that's unacceptable. The running game was bad too. He could have been better, and because of his bad play in the 2nd half, we had to rely on the defense, and that's the reason why lost, because we relied on the defense too much, and that's because the offense didn't do anything, and that leads back to the QB, and the QB is Curtis Painter

what I want to know is why was it only 10 attempts in the second half? yeah, let's rely on Donald brown to win the game for us. That's a good idea....

  4. I was thinking the same thing. I'm wondering if maybe his wrist is bothering him and it's making catching the ball difficult? I hope it's a issue he can fix soon, because we need him to help open up garcon, collie, and wayne.

Is it a timing issue, he can't adapt to the change in QB rythm?

  5. No matter who was in there, peyton or no peyton he wouldnt be able to cover up what the defense did today... listening to polian right now and he is actually emulating what alot of ppl are saying right now.. the secondary was dispicable and painter in his words "was flawless"... not even peyton could have done anything.

I respectfully think you're wrong. Manning would have probably covered up the defense's flaws by going out and scoring another 21 points in the second half

  6. Of the teams in the hunt for the No. 1 pick, you would have to think that teams like the Vikings or Bengals or St. Louis wouldn't be interested in Luck. Miami will jump all over luck as would KC. Miami has to be considered the odds on favorite right now for the number 1 pick. I think the loser of this weekends Colts/KC matchup will be setting themselves up well for the number 2 pick and Minnesota coming in at 3 and St. Louis 4th and the Bengals maybe 5th.

Yeah, the teams that are set on the QB they have would want to trade down for an arm and a leg in picks from whatever team is desperate to get Luck. I hope that we aren't that team, b/c it would cripple us, hamper us from getting the help we need in our defense and another good WR. If we get the first pick and take Luck that's one thing (though I hope we don't) but for us to make sacrifices at other positions to take him would be stupid! There are other decent options for a BACKUP QB.

  7. I don't care what "he" wants. This is a team sport, not an individual sport.

He can find out if he is okay in the offseason and during camp next year.

    Yes they both can.

Okay, you don't care what PM wants. But how is it better for for the team, exactly, for him to be out all year?

If he isn't able to go in 2012 he isn't able to go and if we have Luck he starts. If we don't we go get a QB.

He sits this season and then begins return in the offseason. That is the only logical thing to do.

  8. If you want a DB first then we'd have to trade down out of the #1 spot....if in fact we wind up at #1. I'm assuming you meant for us to trade down because there is no way Bill Polian will spend the 1st overall pick on a CB or S.....nor does any of this year's DB crop warrant it.

It is a legitimate need and for once....I'd like to see something resembling a stellar pair of CBs in our secondary.

Side note: Comparing Luck to Leaf and Russell is way off base....he has 10X the work ethic of those two slugs combined. We may or may not select him....but I highly doubt he'll bust.

Ever heard of trading the 1st pick? Leverage Luck for a couple of good picks!

  9. Typically when you mention a free agent acquisition, at least I found on the old forum, that it became a very critical issue, I was simply saying getting the right free agent doesn’t mean over paying for a person either.. but I am not sure about the cheap part, sometimes you get what you pay for. :P

    agreed!

  10. Absolutely agree Jason. I think a huge part of the fans thinking is that they really like a player for whatever reason and do not see the things they may not be very good at. I like Brackett too, but IMO Angerer is better, younger, and cheaper which means there is no reason to keep Brackett around. Fans can't see it from a business standpoint and the better business decision would be to let him go.

From a business standpoint why wouldn't it be a good idea to keep two good players if you can afford it rather than just one? I'm not saying we should pay Brackett big bucks to stay but they both have complimentary skills Run vs Pass and if we CAN restructure his contract the ideal would be to keep them both. Not ditch Bracket because Angerer can stop the run. Or ditch Angerer b/c he can't do crap against the pass. Not tracking your logic....

  11. of course and in fact I have even said in earlier threads that our second round pick in all likely hood is only going to be handful of spots behind where we normally pick in round one so we are going to get the same quality of player we normally do so for the Colts it's sorta like having two first round picks.

WIth that said, our first pick should be a really high pick and should be a really good player for years to come from almost day one. If we use that pick on a QB there is going to be a group of Colts fans that is going to complain we wasted that pick on a QB rather than useing it on a CB or WR or something that would have been of more help.

I listed the five areas I see us going in round one and QB is one of those poistions. I don't know if that's what I would use the pick on by I can see why the Colts would. I just know there is going to be a group of fans that wont like the pick because it doesn't help us right way (unless the worst fears about Peyton are true). By the same token if we pass on a QB there is going to be a group of fans who are going to be upset we didn't take the QB because the odds of us being in this poistion to get one that high again with Manning are small based on past results.

I've said this before but I'll say it again. And based on previous posts I think you'll agree. We should use the good draft position to maximize the talent around MANNING. Remember him, our QB? Don't count him out yet people. We don't know anything yet. Until we do the plan should be to get him a few more rings! Then when he retires or gets injured, then we take our licks for a season like the rest of them and get the next great QB. There's always an IT QB everybody's talking about. Remember all the hype about Vince Young? How'd that work out? Lets focus on the next few years with the GOAT. Not leverage Manning's next few years over QB drama. You really want a Tim Teabow situation? That'll be fun! I'm not ranting at any particular person, I'm just a over the Luck bandwagon.

  12. Just from a salary cap standpoint, it seems like a logistical nightmare trying to accommodate a blue -chip franchise QB as a back-up for several years. Nevermind what a QB of this caliber might feel about spending the first 3-4 years of his career as a sedentary ornament.

I don't feel we'll get the pick anyway, from there it just gets even more unlikely.

What he said! What I've been saying all along!

  13. You didn't come off too strong. I'm glad we're all passionate about our Colts here! No worries! :) It's a very hard thing, to hope that your team loses that much! I think it's a possibility, I just think we'll only get better. I'm not like most, I don't think the wheels are gonna fall off the bus. I think our D will step up again and our offense will continue to improve. But yeah, I think we're in a 5-10 spot, being generous. I can understand after going 0-3 why you'd think that we could get the number one pick. Only time will tell!

    I mean 6-10, Math is hard! :)

  15. Exactly. Brackett was a very good linebacker for a cover-2 system for that very reason. That's why I cringe when I see people say Angerer is so much better. They are different types of linebackers. Clearly Angerer is a run stopper while Brackett was a pass stopper. You are already seeing teams attack the middle more and attacking Angerer's lack of pass coverage skills. Don't get me wrong I love Angerer and any dude who can get 21 tackles in a game you need to have on the field. I am more or less just cringing at how quickly fans are tossing Brackett aside and acting like he was not good at all. Brackett was a very good player for us for a lot of years. I hope Angerer lasts as long as Brackett has, I'll be pulling for it for sure.

Yeah, I hope against hope we can keep Brackett and use him in obvious passing situations. And rotate them to use them in a way that they complement each other. I'm with you on how fans are already ditching Brackett when he's busted his butt for our team. How many games has he ended for the other team hawking the ball right exactly when we needed him to? I don't see Angerer doing that. I think he's a beast against the run. But the pass? you're right on that one.

  16. I got you! Benching Mathis would be moronic. Kinda like the way they kept trying to do that crossover 4step move with him where he had to angle out and around the line to get to the Big Ben on Sunday. :) I'm not a football expert by any stretch. What was that thing, and why did they keep trying it when it looked *ic?

  17. You're making a circular argument akin to somebody looking for a job but not being able to find one because all the jobs require experience.

So how do you get the experience if no-one will hire you? I know, somebody takes a calculated risk and gives you the opportunity to develop.

I love a LOT of what I see from Painter, and more importantly apparently the front office (and Reggie) believe that he has the talent. Is he going to make mistakes? Absolutely. So what - every rookie QB in the history of the sport has make mistakes. This isn't a one game trial, it's the next step in his development as a QB. Personally my belief is that by the end of the season everyone will be more comfortable with our backup QB position than at any point in the Manning era.

Thank you! I'm not sayin Curtis is gonna be good, just that we haven't gotten a good look yet to know whether he is or he isn't. Remember, people, what were people saying about Peyton the after his first few games? We went 3-13 his rookie season, remember? I don't, I was overseas and not into football yet! :) But we have to give him the benefit of the doubt for at least 2 games that he's actually prepared for and played with the starters!

  18. I liked the way Angerer played. He looked like he had a mean streak in him and he finished tackles. I thought at anytime, he would be assessed a penalty for trying to drive the person he was tackling into the ground. I liked that and haven't seen that aggression since Morris, yes Morris, at the LB spot. I thought that Session hit hard but didn't tackle to the ground, he tried to knock you out. Angerer seems to hit you solid and then tries to drive you into the ground. If he can improve his pass defense just a little, he will be the new team capt'n, might become that anyways.

I agree with those who feel something isn't right on the quick IR of Brackett and that he most likely will not be back next year.

An many ways he's a better tackler than Brackett, but he just doesn't seem to have Brackett's bawl hawk instincts. Doesn't inspire the people around him the way Brackett does. not sure if that's a role he can step into. It seems like either you got it or you don't.

  19. That's exactly why I think Wayne is the one that gets the tag and why I said Wayne is the first guy we have to resign. It also fits how the Colts do business. Offense first at the expense of the defense. I'd hate to see Mathis get away but if we have to pick between the two Reggie is the guy. Also, I think Mathis is a very good player without question but he also benefits playing on the other side of Freeney. I would like to see the Colts give Hughes a few reps on the otherside of Freeney and see if that helps him at all.

Can't hurt to move Hughes there. We're really in a unique position of being able to evaluate some of the young guys and see if they step up. It's not like we have anything to lose at this point! I think we should be playing more of our young guys in the next games, esp if we lose this game Monday night. If we have no shot at the playoffs, treat it like the preseason and develop our younger guys, evaluate them for next year. That way we know exactly what we've got going into the off season and where we need to shore up with the draft and the FA.
