  1. Look, if we're gonna stop relying on Manning, it is gonna take years to take some pressure off of him. Right now, it is too late to change so we have to continue with what we do and give Manning the best we possibly can. To turn this team around, it's gonna take risks (something we dont take), being aggressive (we're conservative), and time (something that is VERY limited).

Hense the post on whether it's realistic to think we can turn this around this off season!

  2. It has to be a good fit for what we're trying to do. Hard to tell right now what that will be until the coaching/GM situation is resolved.

I'm not sure that it has to be a good fit for what we're trying to do. I think we need a new coach with a new defensive style/philosophy/plan (whatever!). I think that what we've been trying to do no longer works. It's time for a change! I guess we'll see what who they come up with in the off season.

Please keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle......

  3. I think it's clear that Jim will get his walking papers at the end of the season. The real question is whether we will be able to get somebody better in to coach, given that most coaches don't like the Polians. The second question is whether we can afford to get some help on defense.

Has it gotten bad enough yet that BP will concede that NOW is the time to bring in a big FA name or two? I know that's not his norm, but how bad does it have to get?!

  4. yeah, I think no PM and we're screwed. Because it means we have to use our 1st round draft pick on a QB instead of leveraging it to get a some good defensive players. I know that puts me squarely in the no-luck camp but that's not because I like or don't like Luck. It's because Jesus Christ himself couldn't win with this team without getting some real talent on Defense! Going from one HOF QB to the next potential HOF QB doesn't help us much for the next few years. We need to add key players NOW. Just my opinion.

  5. There really isn't anything we can do to shore up our offense/defense at this point in the season. So what can we do to shore up the defense mostly in the offseason? I'm assuming Manning will be back next year. Because I personally have to hold out hope until it's not realistic. If we're thinking Manning has a few years left, is it realistic to think we can turn this around in ONE off season? Do we have cap space to get some good defensive players in FA for next season? What positions would you try to find more talent in? And which positions are the hardest to transition as rookies, and need to go all out in FA?

In my opinion, SS, CB, DB and WR are the 4 positions we most need to stock up some talent in. What are yours?

  6. I saw once an article where a journalist/blogger asked Howard Mudd whether Sorgi got any snaps in practice and Mudd said NO!. The journalist asked "Don't you want Manning's backup to practice with the first team, get some reps in?" Mudd's answer, very telling in Hindsight was, "If we lose Manning we're f-d. Why would we practice being f-d?"

rotfl I actually think he's right. There's no way a backup could go in and be PM. All indicators were that Painter sucked. And just because he could make some throws in practice didn't give the coaching staff any real idea of how well he'd be able to read defenses, whether he'd have the pocket presence, whether he could actually lead the team.

  7. I have my doubts that Manning will even make a return to the field. But even if he does...we are fans, there is no loyalty involved here except to the team you love...and if the team you love has got to do what it has to do for it's future drafting a replacement is a great thing for the true fan. However, I sure hope we don't spend a 1st round pick on a QB unless we know for sure Manning will NOT come back....

How an you say you're loyal to the team if you're not loyal to the ONE man that made this team great? I'm not saying make decisions that are good for him at the expense of the team. But he is what's good for this team. If he can play, he's our QB. I'm loyal. And if that makes me "nostalgic" then so be it.

  8. (does it help to know that if the Colts had somehow made it to the superbowl the city would have lost a bunch of money?)

    NOT A BIT! :yuk:

BUT it does help to know that we're gonna get some good early pics for once!

I think a lot of us fans are gonna be real encouraged to see P-money back, even if it's just for one meaningless game. The waiting and wondering for a whole year is gonna kill us!

  9. I know other fa

Suck it up soldier. Lions fans have endured worse than this for 50 years or so. You can handle a season.

I know other fans have had it worse. But I'm fulltime mom of three preschoolers by day and fulltime nursing student by night. So football is my ONE outlet. And it's just crushing to one week be thinking about a SB at HOME and then spend the next few months watching heartbreaking just misses.

Are there even any trades/free agents to be had that are worth it?

  10. Brown and Carter are below average NFL running backs. Addai is just average.

You won't see a Marshall Faulk or Edgerrin James type back in a long time. Unless we draft best RB in the draft with 1st pick this year.

Our RB's now are possibly the worst unit in the NFL.

Our O-LINE has made our running backs look bad the last few years! It's not their fault they're getting drilled behind the line of scrimmage! How many times did that happen last game?

  11. I really think we should steer clear of drafting any more O-lineman in the first round for some time. Its time to look to FA for those needs as Manning is on his last leg, he needs protection immeadiatly, not eventually.

We are being way too presumptive of final draft slotting. Miami is bad, but our defense is, in my opinion, the worst in the league. Although Miami has a brutal schedule ahead, so they may well get that #1 and finally their fans may get their Marino replacement. They deserve it.

    agreed on the free agents.

  12. The defense needs to take better advantage of opportunities. When the opposing QB makes a bad pass and hits a DB or LB in the hands, the defender needs to catch the ball. When a defender gets to a running back in the backfield, he needs to make the tackle (or at least wrap him up and slow him down). They are not good enough to not make those plays and still win games. There have been many times this season that the defense has been in position to make a game-changing play and have not made that play. I'm sick of hearing "almost intercepted" during the radio broadcasts.

LACK OF TALENT on D and BAD COACHING are killing us. We're not a playoff caliber team even with Manning this year. In our soft division, we'd get there and then be one and done AGAIN. Really sick of this....

  13. I think he's getting better and will continue to mature. I think a few more games in and he'll be winning games for us as long as Clark gets it together and Garcon doesn't make too many more bonehead moves. He almost won the game for us today! Then AV misses the field goal and Garcon lays and egg. That's not on him. BTW, don't blame AV - it looked REALLY windy and bad snap/bad hold. But still. Painter will win at least one for us down the road, from what I saw.

  14. I have been saying since the Pittsburgh game that I don't understand why teams try to run on the Indy defense. They have done a fairly decent job of stopping the run the past few games. The secondary is terrible, though. If I was game planning against Indy, I would throw like crazy. If they adjust to a nickel or dime package to try to cover the pass, then I would start to run more. If they never adjust, then I would just keep exploiting the weak secondary. Aside from the occasional string of broken tackles, running the ball has for the most part been wasted downs against the Indy defense.

Other teams don't need to be able to run the ball when they can pass on us all day long!
