No. It didn’t.
Neither of them do what Inman does.
Inman gets open. He doesn’t have great speed or quickness. But he runs great routes. He reads defenses. He catches the ball. He developed great chemistry with Luck inside of a week.
He’s a reliable professional receiver.
There’s almost akways room for a guy line that on any roster. I’m sorry he’s not on ours.
Agreed. He was the 2nd best WR on the Colts last year, and it wasn't even close. Maybe DF & Cain might have outplayed him this year, but I wouldn't bet on it. I get going with youth, but I still say this year's Colts roster would be better with him than without him.

I feel bad for Inman. It would seem it is nothing but an age thing and Ballard probably likes his chances of calling him midseason if needed due to injury or dropsies.
I hate this. I understand the desire to go younger. But I loved the way Inman played last year, and really wanted him to get a chance to continue with the chemistry he was building with Luck.
Beside Hilton, there are 3 WRs on the roster that might be better than Inman this year, but none that I would bet on.
Having said that, I'll admit that I'm impatient. I'm thinking about this year, and for this year, the Colts are better with Inman than without him. But Ballard's playing the long game, and he appears to be really good at it.

So Sweat goes 26, just not to us.

Eagles take Hollywood here?

If the Colts have enough concerns about the medical to pass on him at #26, why gamble on him at #34? Those picks are basically the same.
Related, Rapaport is teasing something big right now about Sweat...
I get your point, I just kinda see the 34th pick as almost playing with house money. And yes, with this latest news, it's probably a moot point now.

Sweat at #34 would be intriguing, but if he drops that far, teams must really be concerned about his medical. That's tough to reconcile.
I agree Sweat falling to 34 would raise concerns & be a risk. But considering the value already received from that Jets trade, I think you could justify gambling a bit with that pick. (Just a thought, and FWIW, I don't think he falls to 34).

I think they're trying to get into position so that if one of the Iowa TEs is still available, they'll take him just to keep Pats from getting him : )

If the Colts don't take a WR early, a guy named David Sills might be interesting. 6'3", 210 lbs, former QB. Pretty productive at WVU. Projected to go in the 5th or so. Just a thought.

1. I don't really see any WRs worth a 1st round pick in this draft, although I'm sure someone will pull the trigger. I'd be ok with one at 59.
2. (And bear with me),
In the 3 "win or go home" games at the end of last year (at Tenn, at Houston, at KC), Andrew Luck threw 14 passes to Dontrelle Inman. Inman caught 13, for 187 yards and 2 TD.
I know Inman's career has been a mixed bag, but he stepped off the plane last year and immediately became the 2nd-best WR on the team, and it wasn't close. In a relatively short time, he developed great chemistry with Luck, and I'd love to see them get a chance to continue together. I know we're looking for youth & upside, but dang it, this team could win a SB THIS YEAR. I know he's not currently on the roster, but I truly believe if they don't re-sign him, they'll regret it. (JMO).

I still think Inman is a big piece to the puzzle. He came in partway through the season, and almost immediately became the 2nd best WR on the team. Now it's possible that Funchess and Cain both pass him up, but if Dontrelle Inman is your 4th best WR, you're going to have a very good season. JMO.

Ballard mentioned Inman again in interviews from the owners meetings. He said he can’t say yes or no they are still working on things but should have a resolution between now and the draft. I bet that means that we will see if we draft a WR. Not having Inman makes me nervous. I worry about not having his stability.
I agree. I know he wasn't the only reason for last season's turnaround, but the fact is the Colts were dropping passes & losing close games, and then they signed Inman.

I don't know, I'm a little gun-shy after the last time the Colts spent a 1st round pick on an Alabama running back.

I was really hoping for CJ last year. For some reason, even though he was just 27, & had been productive, Ballard didn't seem interested. And he must have seen a lot of CJ while working for the Chiefs. On a cheap deal, he may still be worth bringing in.

Inman was arguably the most reliable WR on the team last year. Yes, I know Hilton was hurt part of the time, and yes, some of the young guys probably have more upside. But for the next 2 years, the Colts' offense will be better with him than without him.

By the start of the season, Ballard’s remodel will be 3-years old, not two.
17, 18, and 19... three free agency periods... three drafts...
Good point. But in real time, he won't celebrate his 3rd Anniversary with the Colts until the end of next January (just as the Colts are preparing for their 19th game). : )

If we sign him Ballard is very quietly making this team so much better. It kind of makes me laugh because of the anger of not signing FA.
I agree. I know games aren't won or lost on paper, but by the start of the season, we're going to look at the roster and be absolutely stunned at what Ballard has done in just over 2 years.

I agree as a whole the Colts' WRs were not good last year. But Inman made a huge difference when he came, which is very difficult for WRs to do mid-season. I'm not saying he's a pro-bowler, but he runs precise routes, has arguably the best hands on the team, and Luck trusts him. Maybe he is more of a 3 than a 2, but if this team doesn't re-sign him, they will regret it.

Inman really doesn't do much to satisfy our WR needs.
You mean except actually catch the football? Remember all the drops before he got here? If you count week 17 and the 2 playoff games, the Colts played 3 straight "win or go home" games. In those games, Luck threw a total of 13 passes to Inman. He caught 12 of them. There is no way last year's team goes from 1-5 to 10-6 if they don't sign Inman.

I really think this year the only thing worth trading up for is a DE.

Ok, I was sort of joking (wouldn't let me post smiling emoji). But I think I would rather have Sheppard & Inman on the roster than Funchess.
10-6 possible 11-5 ??

I'm gonna say it now: the winner of the week 1 Colts/Chargers game goes to the Superbowl.
