Don’t think the new HC will affect draft plans much. The focus of the draft for Ballard will be defense again and our DC and scheme is already set. The theme here is to add building blocks for the new 4-3 and strengthen the OL once and for all. I’ve let off some needs that will be addressed in 2019 and aren’t as pressing

    Colts Re-Sign:

    Adam Vinateri, 2 years

    Donte Moncrief, 1 year

    FA:

Andrew Norwell OG, 5 years- We have the money to pay him and he’s the day 1 starter at LG

Anthony Hitchens LB, 4 years- A familiar face for Eberflus who can start immediately at MLB and be the defensive captain.

Martavis Bryant WR, 1 year- Ballard seems to like big body, outside receivers as he tried to acquire Alshon Jeffrey last of-season. Bryant has to prove he won’t be a distraction and be a better teammate before any team throws him serious money

    Draft:

R1: Bradley Chubb, DE NC State- The foundation of our 4-3 starts here. Relentless motor and great hands. With Simon better suited to play off-ball, I think he would start across from Sheard. Culture changer on defense

R2: Will Hernandez, OG UTEP- Another guy who can bring a culture of toughness and set the tone. He’s a mailer in the run game and plays nasty. He’s 2nd only to Nelson in terms of demeanor. Instant starter at RG

R3: Jerome Baker, OLB OSU- The 4-3 demands for an athletic WILL and Baker is perfect for this role. He’s rangy and super athletic and is today’s NFL LB. He starts.

R4: Josey Jewell, OLB Iowa- One of my favorite players in the draft. He’s been a beast since 2016. His production is crazy. 135 tackles (13.5 TFL), 4 sacks, 11 PBUs, and 2 INTs this past season. He’ll have a pedestrian 40 time but he’s great in zone and has rare instincts. And his pro comparison from Zierlein? Sean Lee. Eberflus will be thrilled. He’ll start at SAM

R5: Josh Adams, RB Notre Dame- And underrated RB who was very productive at Notre Dame. The depth of this class will push him down. But, at 6’2”, 220 he’s a perfect piece to team with Mack. He’s also got some hands in the passing game.

R6: Dane Cruikshank, CB Arizona- a developmental corner with the length that Ballard likes at 6’1”. Impressed at the EWS game. Should be great on STs early on

R7: KC McDermott, OT/G Miami- Zach Banner part 2. He’s 6’7” with long arms but has more technique. Solid depth lineman who will enter the RT competition.

Didnt draft any WRs because I didn’t see the value for the prototype that Ballard likes. I also didn’t sign a RT because I think you let Good, Haeg, Clarke, and McDermott battle it out for the spot. New offense will help the line anyways. I’m hoping to have a Saints-sequel draft and knock the first 3-4 picks out the park.

I have a feeling Ballard won't pay Norwell, but this is a very solid off-season IMO

I'm not calling the guy a meathead, never have, but I think it's valid to question his actual coaching ability beyond his fiery demeanor and motivational qualities.

Here's what Dolphins fans had to say about him, good and bad:

So obviously he's a good leader and can light a fire under guys. But don't be surprised if he shows short-comings in other areas. I've yet to see any Dolphins fans actually praise anything about his game-planning, in-game adjustments, etc.

I am not against him coming here.  A tough nosed, disciplined guy to lead men is what we need.  If you give him two good coordinators...Eberflus is that guy and say Bevell...I think it could be a great combination.  I am sure Campbell knows enough about the game in situational areas to make it through and if the coordinators call solid plays, which those two would, you have a great chance to start heading in the right direction.

  3. I wouldn't get to carried away with the 4-3 stuff.  Everything I have read on Eberflus makes me think that may be the base but we will be more of a hybrid type of defense.  We will be switching fronts 4-3, 3-4, maybe even a smattering of of 3-3-5....I could see us running more of that so called Nascar package.  If we draft Chubb the NASCAR package could be really useful....Say Sheard and Chubb outside with Simon and Anderson bull rushing up the middle.I feel like if we draft Chubb, resign Melvin and get another CB our defense will be much improved against the pass.  I already feel like we made some strides against the run.

    look at Arrowhead Addict

This is indeed on their site....however, Toub did not even receive and interview, so I find it hard to believe that he is automatically the new favorite for the job.  This seems like recycling old rumors when he was the supposed favorite the first time around..then never had an interview.....I would still hedge my money on McDaniels personally.

  5. Cautiously optimistic here as others have stated.  I think this is a good sign, but it may not be the tell all.  I am encouraged at how he looks physically more than anything. Hopefully this is the start of the Colts being reborn.  IF he comes back healthy and we do some work in the draft and via FA..there is no reason we can't compete for the South crown next year.

Sorry if this has been posted and feel free to merge....I've been off the boards for some time bc of personal reasons (nothing bad).

But how did Patrick Robinson go from being terrible with us to an All-Pro level player with the Eagles?? Scheme? Lack of pass rush leading him to cover longer? I seem to remember him getting burnt a lot in 2016. Now he's a shutdown corner.

Side note, not that I care too much but Dorsett and Allen have a good shot at getting rings, and while Dorsett hasn't done a lot in NE, he did make a huge play in the Jags game.

For Robinson, is it the Jerry Hughes effect, just didn't fit? Or injuries and being forced to cover too long....

The Eagles played him inside at the slot position, which is where he excelled. Chuck and Grigson thought he could play on the outside and were proved wrong, over and over again.  It would be like taking someone like Wes Welker and having him play only as an outside WR....it just doesn't make sense.

  7. Luck already ahead of Brady on a list....Tommy is a great QB, but I think it always underrated how much his defense has helped him.  Usually in the playoffs the running game is solid for them as well.  Not to mention he had Vinny and now Gastkowski who never miss a kick in the playoffs...Peyton had Mike Vandershank...I believe if the Patriots had Manning and the Colts had Brady, the Colts never would have sniffed a Super Bowl and the Patriots probably would have 8 or so titles.

Hilton has been inconsistent since the day he arrived here.

His problems were there under Arians and Pep.

His issues are NOT Chud related.     They're related to TY Hilton.

I know he's not a number one.     Yet Chud used him well enough in 2016 to lead the NFL in receiving yards.

There,   I just laid the stats for you.

You're confusing your unhappiness with TYH and looking for someone to blame.    You've decided it's Chud.    I've just showed you how it's not a Chud issue.      It's a TYH issue.

I think a lot of people underrate TY...he almost had 1000 yards this year with very lackluster QB play...I predict big things for him in Mc Daniels offense

  9. Definite resign...he was almost good from 60...which a lot of kickers can’t do...and that extra point in Buffalo, only the GOAT makes that...age is just a number when your name is Vinny
