  1. I think Reggie was in the slot almost as much as TY last season. I don't know if Pep is going to continue moving him around.

    ^^THIS

It seems most of you are argueing 2 different points or are misusing the term #2.

The primary WR changes on each play & most plays is totally dependant on coverage. We had 1 veteran WR last year so most teams roll coverage to R Wayne. Thats why R Wayne was and will be our SLOT WR.

R Wayne is constantly in motion because he alone can dictate coverage & is experienced enough to run routes in the middle of the field between NFL zones. Yes - this is something that would be nice for T.Y to learn - but that takes time. P Garcon came in as a speedster but was waaay more comfortable as an outside deep threat. This could be the same for T.Y - & with his rookie success - he actually has a leg to stand on.

So technically - T.Y & DBH are our Z & Y outside WRs. They will keep Safeties over the top & out of the box while R Wayne works the middle causing havoc like J Rice did. The term #2 is irrelevent unless you mean DBH is our #2 highest paid WR.

    Yezzrr

  2. I dont listen to family members - Im grown - i wouldnt want or ask my family to speak for me. I love Pops but he's not experienced enough to play in the media. Heck - alot of players shouldnt do interviews.

But what I came here to say is Im glad his jersey isnt retired if he would consider NE.

  3. Yezzrr - thats what Im talking about -

Put a Man in the Middle & all that (mod edit) Stops.

Sounds like some of that killer instict we need to transform the culture. When we started this - in my head - I thought - ok so we are going to have PITs offense with BALs Def. Sounds good to me. Are we really going to have that?

I know PITs offense is out - but Im cool with that. Our Offense now will have Andrew calling his own plays & running no huddle in year 2. Thats unheard of & will change the game & get more college OCs jobs with their QB's in the NFL.

But a Def like BAL seems attainable. Im a Colt - wheather its a good or bad thing - I dont worry about our Offense. I just cant conceive having a bad Offense. I want a Def that can dominate bad offenses to give us the balance to win by any means necessary.

I love having a team full of players with alot to prove. Some are proving they are worth the money - some that they are worth the pick - or they deserve more snaps or some just the opportunity.

Shock the world. Why not us.

  4. Who cares about what these duwds talk about when there isnt anything to talk about.

Of course they can get away with saying this in May. What were they saying May last year? Exactly.

Even though I dont agree - I still keep it in its proper perspective. We won 11 games last year - but 7 were come from behind. Its not like we dominated 11 NFL teams last year. So yes - that leaves room for criticism.

The crime is paying attention to these jokers. Just look at whats here now that wasnt last year. Im not ashamed of a little luck to accelerate the reloading process. Heck - if we would have only won like 4 games the only FA we would have attracted were gold diggers.

Let them duwds talk - save some of their quotes & hit their blogs up when its time for show.

  5. And they should, he showed that ability last year with his vision and ability to cut back but I expect Brown to be involved in this offense a fair deal, It would be silly not to take advantage of his speed, He is a game changer, a running back that can score from anywhere on the field with 1 touch

Donald Brown? Game Changer? Currently sitting behind a rookie. No Im not talking about K-Dub - i mean V Ballard as the rookie.

Gavin - its my understanding you usually have something solid to back up your comments but I had to say something about this one. Feel free to set me straight but you described CJ Spiller or D Sproles but you were talking about Donald Brown.

D Brown may have value to us - but not as a change of pace back. My opinion obviously - & i have RB still as our pre-camp #1 need.

  6. No need to fire a guy over ONE mistake. yes in my opinion, shipping A.Q. to baltimore was a mistake. Holmes is a proven COLLEGE center, not a proven NFL center. he could end up being a bust. but , there is nothing wrong in keeping 3 centers for depth reasons. Satele couldnt even stay healthy last year. but  that being said, at least there is a chance we can get a extra draft pick for next years draft lol

i understand your point - but you cant factor weather a player will be a bust into the equation. Thats like factoring in injuries. There are success stories in every round & at every pick. Unfortunately failures share the same resume.

I choose to believe they did what they are paid to do - they took a risk. If the success of our OL hasnt began to be evaluated yet - how are you comfortable speaking about trading Shipley as a mistake?

  7. .... #73 & #46? If someone can tell me who they are id appreciated it.

#73 looks photo-shopped. Thats a big duwd. & #46 looks like he about his bidness.

Just wondering so I can keep an eye on them - thanks.

  8. To me the round that the pick is in is really kind of meaningless.  The fact is the Colts got a pick for a player who really had no chance to make the team is a good deal.

Your point would be right in yesterdays original trade thread - but today the only reason we are here is for the alleged confirmation of our conditional pick value.

Calling that meaningless is like striking out in tee ball.

  9. I'm looking at 2 possibilities from the Werner signing

    1. Werner gets signed to more money than Walden, the forum gets upset by this thinking signing Walden to that much made no sense and that Werner should start since he makes more

    2. Werner gets signed for less than Walden, the forum really explodes due to people thinking that Werner is the better person so he should make more $$$$ than Walden

Ahh, gotta love this forum, you guys are the best :D

    NICE!!!

  10. I know he always wore a brace for precaution, but now he's wearing a sleeve and has been since.he hurt his knee last season.

Its mental comfort. Its like gloves for some WRs - it just helps you curb ur fear.

For example - D Rose doesnt want to play with a brace so its taking him longer to get to the point he's comfortable with that.

  11. Finally we can get some eyes on these guys so we can start putting this puzzle together.

Does anyone else expect another preseason trade? If so - what position?

Im going RB. just a guess - no reason.

Side note - now maybe some of our fellow men will have something legit to trip about instead of just second-guessing The Board.

  12. Man, I understand Grigson is a ex lineman so maybe he saw something we didn't.

But from a fan's perspective, the offensive line as a whole seemed to get better whenever Shipley was in.

I see this alot. People seem to like Shipleys effort last year. I just assume by the fact he's gone that he wasnt good enough moving forward.

  13. The fact that 1 of the best G.M.'s and talent evaluators in the league in Ozzie Newsome wanted Shipley tells me this was a bad move for us, Newsome continues to make brilliant moves this offseason...

Not every player is on the team to be a star. Especially in this situation. Shipley might be able to fill a need for BAL that he cant fill for us. That doesnt make Ozzie a genius or that he sees something in Shipley we missed.

Ravens probably didn't want to pay Satele's salary, which is much higher then Shipley's.  I still don't understand dumping Shipley for a conditional pick though.  If he doesn't meet the conditions then they gave him away for free.

Allow me to clear it up for you based on the info we have. I assume the pick we get for him is a 6th at best even though id take ANY pick for him. Whatever pick we get will be more value to us than him.

He was traded for something we dont even know what it will be yet? That means he was gonna get cut. So all the ppl acknowledging how "well" he played last year - it equalled a conditional pick moving forward.

Last year OL effort is no longer the accepted standard so to me this sends the message to everyone on the OL to get on board or get gone.

  14. Get him gone - if he's not in the future plans then see you - hope it works out for you elsewhere. I'm focused on the immediate future - not the past.

I also cant disagree with the guys that have access to every snap Shipley played last year & still drafted a Center this year.

  15. Not all offenses are hybrids. All playbooks probably have a few Hail Mary plays, that does not mean they are not a dink-and-dunk offense. Some offenses are very set in there ways and obvious, but are still successful because of excellent execution.

To call our offense last year a hybrid/versatile does not make proper use of either term. We were very much vertical and aggresive in our philosophy, and whilst we included more conservative plays that does not detract from the overall governing philisophy.

Obviously the nature of any offense is to maximize skillsets and create mismatches, but truly versatile offense is a very rare thing in this league because few players can do it all.

I agree - i didnt mean hybrid as how the term is used as in our defense & I should have said "hybrid". Because all I meant was that no offense uses plays and principles 100% specific to any one certain system for exactly the reason you said. No team has the perfect personel to do that. Mixing pieces of other offenses to change pace is my understanding when I hear coaches use the word "wrinkle".

  16. Oh no, he didn't suggest that, did he? Every fan other than a Colts fan, informed or not, is going to pounce on any chance to use any article necessary to further the ignorant claim that the Colts tanked for the #1 pick.

Waste of my time :) if you ask me.

Whats it matter? His job depends on his ability to get more ppl than usual to read his article. And look - it worked. I would have never read it if it wasnt on here.

If Andew is the best QB prospect in 20+ years - I doubt there will be another as good at least for another 5 years.

  17.  Dont even waste your time getting upset. This article isnt for Indy fans - its for the "casual" fan.

This guy is betting huge on Indy this year and he's trying to keep people off the scent so the odds stay juicy.

Indy has to be the most attractive long shot playoff team to bet on. We were beat by the champs so you could say we lost to the only team that couldnt be beat.

He made no reference to the Stanford Connection because he knows A Luck already knew 75% of the offense before Pep was hired & that wouldnt work in this negative article.

Yes the schedule is harder - but we are getting harder also. We dont have to be 11-5. We just need in.

Besides - you learn more from a loss than you do a win - unless you are a loser. Get them mistakes corrected in the regular season so we are better in the playoffs.

  18. We have a hybrid defense, why not have a hybrid offense?

All offenses are hybrids. The West Coast Offense wasnt a 250 page book of plays and principles that someone copied off for Pep. Its more like a concept or the order of operations we will base going about our business on.

Its like when you see a movie that says based on a true story. They take the main points - and build the "most entertaining" story possible using the characters involved.

This is our offense. The players will dictate what we will do. If you dont have WRs that can get deep or a QB that can get it to them then you will be limited to the short pass. If you dont have the RB to carry or touch the ball 20-25 times a game you have to adjust.

Some comments make it seem backwards. Like for example. Pep will not all of a sudden make D Carter start trying to catch balls out of the backfield just because thats what the offense says to do. Unless D Carter has the skill set for that & just never was asked to do it - D Carter will be used for whatever skill set he brings into training camp. Pep will sign a RB with the skill set necessary to expand the offense. Thats one way players get cut. If your skill set isnt the direction the offense is moving - see ya.

  19. nail/head. we got a group of guys who are players. over spent on some or not, thats not the point. we have a fluid set of ppl to trot out play after play and stop momentum. depth. we can buy big names and big play one piece at a time over the next few years or we can get a lot of contributors all at once now... and form the fist.

"as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another..."

    Yezzrr - i obviously agree 100%.

The amount of money we spent in FA is irrelevent for 2 main reasons.

    1) The new CBA makes teams spend their money because that is how the players wanted it so they can get more of it. We got who we wanted and spent what we had to get them.

    2) The money is leveraged towards the future - and prices will always inflate. Overpaying is actually taking into account future contracts at said position. The more you pay now - the less more you have to pay in extensions.

The cheap owner is dead - or dying. The NFL want to see it on the field in competition. That what builds parity.

  20. This signing has me scared the most, even more than the Walden signing. Toler is the player that we are relying on to keep Vaughn off of the field, much like we relied on Powers last year.

I am afraid that Toler-- much like Powers-- has been labled as injury proned. I hope I'm entirely wrong, but I'm very scared about this.

You are scared that the people that support their families by making these decisions may have made a mistake? Or you are afraid that the people who get paid to determine weather C Vaughn should or shouldnt be on the team are wrong?

  21. Unfortunately - this year - we are going to just have to expect the worst & pray for the best when it comes to injuries. I expect alot but hope to be getting back to as close to full strength as possible by mid-season.

Thats why depth is so important this year - I think training camp is going to be brutal.

Our mantra this year is "Stop The Run". In case you are new - we havent done that in years. Maybe even 10 of them. So this is going to be like a team that is used to losing - the whole culture is going to have to change.

Go listen to players on dominant defenses that stop the run talk about how to stop the run. Yes - teamwork - trust & working hard all play a role - but Ray Lewis makes me feel like its a killer instinct or almost a hatred shared by 11 men towards giving up rushing yards.

I want that - & I think we will get to that - but that is a process that unfortunately requires a very physical weeding out process. I think this is why instead of having the best players we could have drafted or signed as FA - we have football players who can all CONTRIBUTE multiple ways. Now we should have almost all the puzzle pieces - but now we need to see where they fit through intense competition.
