  1. Wow - we got beat down so bad today that I think people are in shock.

Listen - if you feel you need to come on here after that total blowout - and tell me "its ok" - allow me to tell you what you obviously do not want to come to terms with........

    It's Over.

Just like what happened to Oregon against Stanford this week - reality has slowly choked the life out of our season.

Reality is - T Richardson was not suppose to be our starting RB this year. He was suppose to be a fresh bruiser back that ate up clock in the 4th quarter behind V Ballard &/or A Bradshaw. Injuries have us with D Brown as our featured RB. Let that sink in - D Brown was a 3rd or 4th string RB BEFORE we even got T Rich & some thought he was about to be released.

Reality is - the offensive line just is not ready for NFL competition. Again - injuries have us starting a rookie. I do not care who that rookie is - fact is - he was not drafted to start his rookie year.....period. And if you have been watching S Satele - we probably should be playing the other rookie. I have seen S Satele miss a block on a screen that the man he was suppose to block did not even see him coming.

Reality is - i bet a lot of you can not even remember a Colt's game without R Wayne in it. I seen a thread or a post talking about "next man up" - this is not baseball - R Wayne is irreplaceable. If our WR corp was a fist - R Wayne was the wrist. I teared up over the Peyton Tribute - but I cried when Reggie went down. Perspective - DHB is our most tenured WR & he's being outplayed by T.Y.

Reality is - the injury to D Allen has exposed C Fleenor as more of a WR than a TE. That's not a bad thing - but - he needed to be brought along slower with less targets - not thrust into the fire.

Reality is - Pep Hamilton's offense - just like C Pagano's defense - is wrong for us with our current roster. On offense - you cannot feature your 4th string RB behind an offensive line so soft in the middle you start a 4th rnd rookie. You must spread defenses out & win or lose with our best player. (A Luck) I mean it's not like A Luck is being protected any better.

On Defense - you cannot play all out bump n run man if you cannot stop the run or get a disruptive 3, 4 or heck 5 man pass rush

A consistent pass rush gives the DB's a realistic amount of time they "have" to cover. Without it - you get covered WR's making catches on unaware DB's because they have no idea what is going on behind them. So sometimes they look & the WR makes another move.

Reality is - too many injuries to too many key players - mixed in with too many underperformers. The best thing is we have a young team - it just sucks that we did what we did last year to make it seem we were going to skip the rebuild transition phase.

I guess I should say that this is my opinion and I am OK with positive and/or negative feedback. I do not care about how my opinion differs from yours. Actually - I'm hoping people do not see as many problems moving forward as I do.

  2. You probably KNEW we'd beat San Diego, too.

Rating after 7 games are meaning less..,You dont really think we have one of the tiop 5 defenses in the NFL

Did you see the Miami gamne?

Say calm..we stil have to beat Houston and Tennessee twice..

I didnt care if we beat SD or DEN. Im not a Colts fan because of our record - & no - I dont go into any season looking to go undefeated. Check the date/time of the OP - obviously it was a feel good moment after a game that had some extra emotion involved.

But its cool - i'll let you get back to looking for threads you disagree with so you can tell us about it 5 days later.

I went and looked up why R Harrison said we have the 6th ranked DEF - we are #6 in points against - so no - its not overall like i thought at 1st. Its cool - you could have corrected me - but thats not what you do huh.

  3. So............   which is it?

You titled this thread.....   "Top 5 Defense"

Then,  your post says....   "Heck - say top 10 defense"

    All right.....  which is it?

For my two cents.....   it's not top 5.....   not yet at least.

After the game - the NE dude that be with T Dungy said we have the 6th ranked DEF in the league. I projected us into top 5 as we are about to have a week off.

I said top 10 because we have never had a DEF ranked that high so top 10 even sounds crazy.

When was the last time our DEF was ranked higher than the OFF?

  4. I just wanted to start a topic for those of us that knew we were going to win this game.

I don't care - I be all over these boards daily and I seen people talking crazy - "I'm nervous...." - If you nervous, you should try golf or tennis.

I gotta make one point though - we came into this game with the 6th rated Defense overall. Say that out loud a few times. Heck - say TOP 10 DEFENSE.

So here you go - shut it down - leave a Go Colts - whatever. My QB just snatched the torch from Peyton.

  5. jshipp23 - c'mon man.

Let it go. This comes across as classless. I understand you want to shine a light on other contributing factors - but to try to undervalue what P Manning means to the QB position period - much less the Indianapolis Colts is asinine.

Without Peyton Manning we are Cleveland or any other team that never had a QB. Name one player in P Manning's tenure that would have became a star without P Manning being here. B Sanders without Peyton is like a poor mans T Polamalu without Big Ben. Look at Houston. They have all the same pieces from last year - except a QB.

Not very many team food chains put a Safety over the QB. Last year - would you even put E Reed or R Lewis over J Flacco?

Like I said - i understand your intent - but let it go. You do not have to be the one to address this already ridiculous topic. All this is doing is taking away from the incredible feeling we will have after beating these fools down this weekend.

I have been all over these blogs reading posts from these half-a-fans who are scared to lose this week. Some of them are so wishy-washy they are rooting for Peyton this week.

I'm sorry - if you are rooting for Peyton this week - you are a Denver fan - period.

jshipp23 - dont sacrifice your integrity for people who dont care about it anyway.

  6. If I was a part-time player - this would be the game I would have came back to play also. As a FA acquisition, he's already overpaid as we have won twice as many games as he has played in. I remember B Sanders and I also remember one of L Landry's biggest question marks was his ability to stay healthy.

The secondary - just like at LB and the DL - require trusting that you can count on your fellow man. That takes winning and losing together. As of right now - our secondary is V Davis G Toler A Bethea and D Hollowell. They have been the group gaining the necessary chemistry needed to face elite QB/WR's we will see this week.

We of all people know what Peyton does when he sees a Safety roaming the box - he's going to look for 1 on 1 coverage on the outside. D thomas vs G Toler or E Decker vs V Davis. (oh - do not forget W Welker vs C Vaughn).

Anyway - this is not the kind of offense L Landry was brought in for. This is not the week of the single high Safety. If anything we will keep 2 high with 6 or less in the box to get Peyton to run the ball and try to make a 3rd down stop. (Like SD did to us last week).

I am much more interested in how we will cover J Thomas. You KNOW Peyton - his offense is centered around the slot WR and the TE. J Thomas is a beast - W Welker needs no introduction & if you add in the RB coming out of the back field, we have a full plate this week. SD killed us with the RB out the backfield, a rookie in the slot & A Gates.

L Landry better bring his cover shoes this week. Oh wait - you say he can't cover, he's just a LB playing Safety? uh oh.

  7. Is this a Media thread? Joking - but seriously I just want this week to be over. I hope I only speak for myself - but that SD game embarrassed me.

Imma Colts fan - so that was the 1st MNF game i watched & it was my squad so I watched all of the pregame hype. The way they basically went all in telling the world how good A Luck is got old quick. A Luck's 1st MNF game - an oppurtunity for the world to see the best of the best young QB.

Now I knew it was really the pre-hype machine starting early to promote this weeks game - but the way we looked against SD was an embarrassment. I came away questioning everything we were doing. This is our offense:

    1st Down 2RB 2TE - -  2nd Down 2RB 1TE - - 3rd Down Empty 1TE 4WR? - - The reason the drops were so hugh was they came on every 3rd down.

Defense. Why does V Davis ALWAYS stay on the same side? SD kept going after G Toler - not hard when u always know where they are at. FYI - 6'2 230 lb D Thomas will be lining up on Tolers side this week. G Toler might foul out. lol.

Just IMO. The loss just left a bad taste - especially since our DC now - was fired from SD. Its like SD knew the weaknesses in our DEF because they used to practice against it everyday.

With that said - tune in Sunday night for A Luck's 1st career defining win. We will beat DEN in the 4th quarter & the headlines will read: Student teaches Master.

    Go Get It Blue

  8. The guy put up a record 500+ yds, 5 TD's, had the best performance of his career, the offense scored 48 pts, yet I read stuff like this:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl-judgements-another-oh-no-013400221--nfl.html

I'll tell you what the "mistakes" were... The Cowboys defense giving up 51 pts! You subtract one of those TD's, FG's, etc. and Romo all of a sudden becomes a hero. It's not like Peyton didn't throw an INT this game either. Peyton's INT just happened to occur earlier in the ball-game.

The life of a QB sucks.

Huh? - I have stopped posting on the site & only read now because it seems to me the culture around football has changed.

Allow me to help keep this sport in its proper perspective.

Listen - T Romo is paid to win and/or be a major contributing factor in the success of the offense. Do not let that second part fool you - that just means win in a nicer way.

There is not one QB that won (or especially lost) today that said "You know - i would have liked to throw for 500 yrds & 5 TD's like T Romo did." Stats are only important to those who dont play.

I agree - QB can be tough sometimes - ask j freeman or m schaub - but more because winning is the only measurement that matters & it cant be done alone - ask T Romo or E Manning.

  9. WOW - and these are Indy FANS?

Well - we all got keyboards i guess. My assessment goes like this:

We played this game to win. Not throw for 300 yards & 7 TD's. Since we won - (and ONLY since we won) - this is one of the best situations for us to find ourselves in.

    Why?

Because we need to improve across the board and that can now dominate our thought processes instead of last year. This is the process of rebuilding a team. A Luck broke the record for comeback wins last year. If he would have lost all those games - would you still be sitting here shocked about almost losing to Oakland?

As a fan - of course I wanted to believe we could look past Oakland and focus on bigger fish. But this is the NFL and I am not mad about getting a nice dose of reality in week 1. Now - I have to stand WITH the men I am so quick to praise while they sift through the 1ST bits of game film to DO THEIR JOBS. They deserve that.

We have many 1st time starters in key spots. The process begins now to see who will stick and who won't. I would much rather be having this conversation week 1 - than week 6.

And oh yeah - how did 0-0 Oakland become the worst team in the NFL? They looked like their usual 8 win team to me.

  10. Kerrigan is a good pass-rusher but also a very complete linebacker in general, that is what I see in Werner as well.

Were you talking about what you have seen so far in OTA's because I don't see how you could see a complete LB when B Werner has never played LB.

And no I'm not trying to bust your point - i'm hoping they are projecting Werner as a complete LB & I just haven't heard it yet.

  11. Why discuss anything then?

You start a thread saying Super Bowl Champs before training camp - I reply that its too early for Super Bowl talk & give my reasons why I believe its too early - just like you would give ur reasons why you think we will be Super Bowl Champs.

Where Im from that is called a discussion. Where you are getting Im saying nothing should be discussed is beyond my level of understanding.

I have speculated on the future several times - i have given my opinion on players several times - I just tried to respectfully say that I would love to get into how I think we can & will have a better season this year - but its just too early. You telling me if R Wayne goes down for the year in training camp this thread will still remain relevent? Im just saying its hard to discuss what can happen at the end of a season that has not even started yet.

Ill make my point a different way. What if I started a thread that said "Why we need to resign Bjoern Werner." Yes - we can discuss it - but we would be missing a pretty important piece of the equation. Not only has his career not started yet - has he even signed yet?. Even if he has signed I believe my point is made. Right now - discussing his next contract would be pointless.

Thanks - Ill try to be clearer next time.

  12. Not strictly true, you don't have to send it all every year, just meet the percentage criteria over the period of the CBA.

I said 10 FA's - so obviously I didnt account for draft picks or UDFA's or practice team or whatever the heck else requires money. So common sense would tell someone with common sense that Im not talking about spending every cent on 10 FA.

What other posts did u find on here worthy of needing to be corrected at 1:40am? Quiet solo kind of night huh.

  13. We will have at least 30M.

The point of the salary cap now is that they have to spend whatever they have. that - plus the fact that contracts are leveraged against the future - are why ppl think we paid too much for our FA's. We have to spend the money so its not like we got 10 players for 130M. Its more like we had to spend 130M on 10 players.

  14. Is that rain?

Listen - dont let this guy insult us then try to smooth it over by saying its ok because we will be good next year.

Basically - he saying we T Tebow in Denver. We won a bunch of games against bad teams. Now its time to have the bad year we were suppose to have last year to grow as a team.

There is a hugh problem with his theory though - he is assuming we have to lose to get better. We are like T Tebow in the sense that to our youngsters and most of our veterens winning is all we know. So if our GM has the ability to see weaknesses & strengthen them we will not miss a beat.

  15. Weird topic - a forum for Colts fans to beat on their chests a little i guess huh.

Well - unfortunately for the OP & those that agree with him - this isnt basketball. The Super Bowl cannot be won in June.

Winning it all is only about 1) making the playoffs  & 2) going into the playoffs firing on all cylinders.

All playoff seeds have won it all before so winning division - record - offensive/defensive rank - coach - & depth at FB position doesnt matter.

That & injuries make it impossible to predict a season.

I think alot of our anxiety about how good we can be comes from knowing how bad we could be right now. Its like we were the best team for 10 years then all of a sudden had the perfect bad season to draft the QB that will give us another 10 years. Luck or not - it could have been alot worse. KC couldnt even find a QB in the draft.

Accept who we are - its OK - we are the best young contender. We are moving towards our 5 year window of opportunity while todays contenters are spending theirs up. Relax - our future is bright.

  16. Do you think I should wear these jeans with that shirt or those jeans with this shirt? It says its suppose to be nice - but they have been wrong before. I want to be comfortable - but I also want to be properly protected against the elements. I want to look nice - and show the people Im going with I know how to be professional.

What do you think? Outfit A or Outfit B? Keep in mind how the weather is there during that time of the year. Lemme know asap - but we got plenty of time.

    Thanks in advance.

  17. Who cares. This is a business - like a relationship - you gotta be there & participate for it to work. He knows he is rapidly approaching the point of no return so im sure he & his camp are doing the best they can to stay relevent. If he was close to coming back I feel at least his agent would be letting the media know.

But thats not my concern - Im a fan of the team success & fully support the players that make that possible so at this point I look at B Ijalana as he's in the way. Either of the next man up or a roster slot.

We got what 37 players to cut?

We got 99 problems but an OG aint 1.

  18. Crabtree: 85 grabs, 1105 yards, 9 TDs

    Kaepernick: 136 comps, 1814 yards, 10 TDs

My question is are these Crabtree's numbers the whole year or after Kaepernick became starter?

Because if Crabtree was responsible for 85 of Kaepernick's 136 completions thats really game - set - match or at least a strong check - with mate in 4.

  19. I appreciate the thought that went into this post and express similar sentiment but Hey Bey Bey has said himself he'll work as the X receiver

Listen - everybody will do everything associated with their position. Everytime R Wayne lines up for a play - he wont be "the slot". All of our WRs will move around or else how can we "keep defenses guessing". Of course DBH will play the X Y or Z. Thats common sense & doesnt need to be stated.

My statement was strictly about last years base offense - 3WR 1TE 1RB.
