  1. "Call it a knee jerk reaction. I will not 100% disagree with you. Even I will admit it is premature; however, I believe it is a solid prediction."

So you are saying that even though you will admit its premature, and you also would agree with someone that says its premature, you still believe its a solid prediction though.

    Nice.

  2. "I believe in the legal process of "innocent until proven guilty," but unless you're a juror on a case, you're allowed to form an opinion based on public info."

As a Patriot fan its even more interesting. So your perspective is looking at A Hernandez as a player you no longer like, so it influences how you judge his guilt or innocence? OK. That's just interesting to me, no disrespect.

Just like how my IND fans screaming how the world was being too harsh on J Irsay when he was...well.....i don't really know what you call it. The illegal substance was found in his car, but he wasn't arrested because they need a toxicology report? Doesn't make sense, even if its not in his system, he's guilty of possession, but whatever. The same fans protecting their owner will condemn someone from another team that does the excact same thing.

Its just interesting how people will say anything to justify their bias. Example: "the evidence to come out so far". Defendants have been tried in public perception for years with "leaked" info in weak cases. It's not anything new. Who's releasing this info? I doubt the defense is, so who does that leave?

This in no way is my thoughts on weather A Hernandez is guilty or innocent, just explaining why i resonded to your original post.

  3. Crazy how guys argue with each other about something that neither one of them have the answers to, while totally second-guessing the people with the most information on the subject. Its like arguing about what the lottery numbers will be 6 months from now.

Its simple, this is C Pagano and R Grigson's team. They get the credit for the success of the team, AND, they will get the blame for its failures. I highyly doubt they are trying to fail so I must observe the how they build the team conservatively and whatever ends up on the field aggressively.

2 years ago, I could never have predicted never missing the playoffs for another 10+ year run. So I dont get too frustrasted if the front office does something I dont understand. I'm just a fan.

  4. Not exactly.

When you have a talent like Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers, you can probably run a few different systems because they can grasp it and make it work with their talent. I don't think Manziel is that type of talent and that is probably what the writer is inferring, IMO.

You are basically both right. Princeton Tigers is right because PT was only saying that the writer really isn't saying anything ground-breaking, coaching is detrimental to any players success. Chad72, you are technically right because QB's learn new systems all the time, some every year.

Where I differ with you is I don't think the article was talking about running different systems being Clowney isn't a QB. I think he means more like (for example), Manziel would benefit more from an established coach like A Reid because he will be there awhile and won't be fired for Johnny's early struggles instead of somewhere like OAK that will go thru 2-3 coaches before they get it close to right.

But Clowney, he's a freak of nature and it really doesn't matter, but for the sake of the article i'll say a stable environment on a team already led by it DEF like HOU is only going to brighten his star sooner than later.

  5. Boxing didn't fade due to the UFC. Boxing has faded for a multitude of reasons.....corruption, too many weight classes, too many governing bodies, lack of top ranked fights, etc.

Of course there are more than 1 reason why boxing lost its popularity. Just like Cuban is giving multiple reasons why the NFL will crash. The point I made was that the NFL is different than boxing and used an example that could fit into Cuban's thinking. Cuban did not say anything about corruption, weight classes, governing bodies or lack of top fights as none of that pertains to the NFL. I only used the boxing/UFC analogy as an example of fans being lost to another sport.

  6. Cuban isn't way off as the general vibe I get from most of the posts on here imply. His logic is sound and can be witnessed maybe not by other sports, but other TV shows for example.

You could pick out individual shows such as the whole American Idol genre, but to keep it in NFL perspective, let's use the entire reality TV phenomenon as a whole. Reality TV did exactly what Cuban is decribing.

But this is also what hurts his point when talking about the NFL. Reality TV became such a force it changed television. Not sure of your ages, but I remember when the sit-com dominated TV. Now, the NFL is a major force trying to dominate TV like its suppose to. So just like reality TV , its trying to be on as much as possible while it can.

So its not "way off" to say one day, 10 years from now, people will not be as interested in football. I mean I didnt watch Thursday night football unless my team or Peyton was playing. My bad, I digress.

As far as a major sport losing its popularity, you could say it happened to boxing. But did it. Boxing brings up another reason why the NFL is different. Boxing lost some of (if not all) its popularity to the UFC. What sport could UFC the NFL? I believe none out now.

My last point is simple. Cuban wasn't even talking about me losing interest in football or most of you that is on these websites everyday. He's talking about the casual fans like himself. And to me, that is the definition of a "casual fan". So that means nothing to me. I, just like most of you, watch football cause we love "the game" over most if not all other sports.

So realistically Mark, I kind of wish football wasn't as popular so I wouldn't have all these non-football fans riding the coattails of my team because we have been successful. Cheers.

  7. i would say that has to do more with bethea's decline, than our defensive schemes...

I don't see A Bethea declining as much as him playing a bigger role than he started. A Bethea was the deep Safety in our Cover 2 scheme, last 2 years he's been the SS in the box. We are lucky he even could do that. SF doesn't see a decline, and A Bethea is filling big shoes for them.

  8. "This is what happened with RGIII. People were just so in love with his highlight reels and only a few people really stopped and put in into perspective. I wish I could find the article but there was one analyst who called out his character issues which were brought to light this season."

Stop that, RGIII was the same person both years, the difference is they were not winning games in year 2 and RGIII didnt deal well with the blame.

  9. "Like you said, I'm curious whose defense this is between Pagano and Manusky.  Is it Pagano's from Baltimore?  Maybe a hybrid of the two?"

This is what I'm watching this year the most, what are we doing and why. Because it seems to me that the things we do the worse was suppose to be the foundation of the team. Stop the run and power run. While I'm fully aware of everything that has gone on with the team, I just really wanna see this thing on DEF resemble whatever it was suppose to. It seems like the welcome addition of A Jones and D Jackson have people 100% at ease with our run DEF. Ok, is it just me or do you think we still lack speed at #2 CB, ILB and OLB?

Back to whose scheme is it? It could be my flawed thinking, but I think it is extremely telling 2 specific games we lost this year. I want to win them all, but I especially wanted to beat ARI and SD. We were blown out in both. Losing to ARI says to me B Arians was legit and losing to SD says Manusky is not. Didn't we all of a sudden "open" the OFF up after getting touched up by ARI? Or maybey CIN, you get my point though. Whoever is running the DEF, its time to put up or get gone. I also hope this same confusion doesn't show up on OFF now that we have 2 OFF coordinators now also.

  10. After reading the interview with Grigs Friday the OL does not concern me anymore. Grigs said we drafted K Holmes to be our Center of the future so that means all last year he was being groomed for this opportunity. Smart, Grigs drafted Holmes and took a year to do whatever was necessary. He obviously coached him on the scheme, put weight on and got strength up all under Grigs watchful eye. That's a good situation.

It would be a bad situation if we were starting someone because we couldn't get who we wanted. As for Costa, to me he takes over McGlynn's backup role as he is completely new to the system so beating anyone out is unlikely. H Thornton will be the RG. I believe he got the 1st start at LG when D Thomas went down. I'm hoping nagging lower body injuries may have slowed his development, but I think he played well enough to not prevent someone else from succeeding.

AC-D Thomas-K Holmes-H Thorton-GC. Nice, now we do the same stash-to-start move at Tackle and we good. This unit should go into camp as the starting 5. They will get the most time to gel and I think everything will be fine. The overall OFF should be more efficient and not my concern this year. Its year 3 and it is time for our DEF-minded head coach to roll out a top 10 DEF.

  11. Was doing a little research on the positions it is shaping up that we will be targeting in the draft and got hung up on what we need due to what we were doing.

Ok, 1st of all, whose scheme are we running in the secondary, C Pagano or the DEF coordinator's? It seemed to me that compared to most teams, our Safeties are flipped. A Bethea was our SS and was mostly in the box acting as run support and in coverage while L Landry played the single-high-safety. BUT, L Landry has always played the SS bone-crusher role and A Bethea has alway played as the deep over the top Safety. I mean come on, A Bethea was drafted into a Cover 2 scheme while L Landry was playing in the box in Rex Ryan's aggressive 2 shutdown CB system.

I admit that I do not watch other teams enough to know who else plays this reverse Safety scheme or if it was just a way to keep L Landry healthy by I guess protecting him from himself or what. BUT, I do see the problems it caused and am wondering how we will proceed now. It seems L Landry needs to be in the box attacking the LOS. His mentality is too aggressive to be running up from 12-15 yards back as the last line of DEF. Too many times I seen him run up, line someone up, only to get shook by a simple move in space for big gains. Let him play from closer up, scraping and catching these RB's still picking their way through the trenches where LL has the advantage.

I asked who scheme it was because its as simple to me as are we looking for E Reed or B Pollard? L Landry seems more like the B Pollard type so I would say E Reed. Which brings me to my overall issues when scouting. 1, if E Reed was on our roster we would know it, and 2, drafting him will be hard missing 59 picks.

Are we planning to be "very aggressive" in the draft? I have read about moving back, but what about moving up, twice? As it looks right now, if L Landry and G Toler was to very uncharacteristically miss a few games, it could get ugly without a top 2-3 Safety back there. Eric Berry was the 5th pick round 1, but E Reed was the 24th. Am I way off and just do not understand the scheme fully? Or will I feel better once I see what's out there for us to draft?  Thanks.

  12. You ever think that maybe Jim NEEDS this "high profile" attention so he is forced to really get the help AND support he needs to get a handle on this problem? It seems you are just concerned with how bad you look in the media as a Colts fan.

Damage control? That's disrespectful and embarrassing how selfish you sound. I get it, signing A Mack would be a "positive" media frenzy. But Jim Irsay, the man you say you care about isn't just a bad comment on twitter. His life is on the line, don't ever confuse that with team business and your inability to not get emotionally unstable over "bad press".

Just get back up Jim, some of us don't care what the media says or put draft picks and money over the people we care about getting better.

  13. Brian is often confusing, in his own charming way!    But if I had to guess I'd say the topic of Toler has been discussed over and over and over again.

So,  when you come along wanting to talk about it,  I think Brian is saying Toler has been talked about almost to death.

Not your fault.    You clearly didn't know that.

But I think that's why Brian wrote what he did......    Just my hunch....   and I'm sure Brian will correct me if I'm wrong.....

Cool either way, I personally haven't been involved in any G Toler discussions so I didn't know and I totally understand where he's coming from. But, the conversation was moving in a positive manner so the perceived negative comment seemed unnecessary. I have read plenty of OP's that were topics I felt unnecessary, but I just respectfully keep it moving to avoid conflict.

I will be more conscious of my topics moving forward.

  14. I apologize if I missed the jersey discussion but my opinion is short and sweet.

If M Harrison would have went into HOF on his 1st ballot, retire the number and it would be done. But to solve any future debates, its simple, only reserve the number of 1st ballot HOF's.

M Harrison represents a era in Colts history no one can take from me, unfortunately, not everyone is from the same era and who am  to say my era is more important than my son's for example. Let H Nicks do what he feels is right for his time wearing The Shoe.

Besides, the number on his back is not the numbers I'm the most concerned about.
