  1. Just wanted to talk to the diehard fans a second before the madness begins.

Because 24 hours from now, the world will be scratching its head trying to figure out just how it is we are headed to the Super Bowl.

Especially since we clearly, cannot be the "best" team in the AFC.......right.

Our OFF.......decent, trending up i guess. Our DEF.......is missing our best player and features a few special team players. A 1st rnd double bust, who lost his job to the equivalent of a walk on. We can go on for hours.

But through it all.............how did we still pull it off. And just imagine what they will say about Luck beating Peyton & Tom to get to the show, to face his actual childhood idle, or the team that has never beat him.

Its about to get crazy Colts fans, get ur popcorn & camcorders ready.

  2. Due to alot of early success(aka overachievment), I believe we are just beginning to build our offense. We have the "pieces" to run any offense. But we have to start somewhere.

Somewhere is, and always has been, running the football. I personally do not believe the goal is to be a power running team. I believe the goal is to be able to power run. TY & Coby do not fit that system. They would have the role of the "satelite" players that make it hard for teams to load the box up on.

We have lost our 1st 2 games by a total of 10 pts, and really, if that 1 fumble & that 1 fumble, would have went our way, we could be 2-0. 2 plays.........that's it.

We are in great shape.......unless we do not look better on both ends 2 weeks from now.

  3. He sits in a room along with the rest of the offensive staff and come up with a gameplan to exploit the oppenent a weaknesses based on the system he put in place. Doesn't matter what version of it you see it's still his system

Ok........you might want to reread the post you took my quote from.

Not only did I never imply that it was not Pep's "system", i referred to our system AS Pep's "system" twice. So unless i don't understand what you are saying, (which is possible) to reference the future,a "like" is all that's necessary when you agree with someones post. Or maybe only quote the part of the post you are addressing to alleviate confusion. Thanks, Go Colts.

  4. Coordinators (Offensive, Defensive) are on the "hot seat" plenty or else none would get fired, Having some input on an offensive game plan is much different then the system being Peps, Also I think its a fair assessment that coach Pagano wasn't brought in to be a HC because he has a great Offensive mind, Would you trust a coach with no experience as a offensive position coach let alone an offensive coordinator? I wouldn't

The answer to your question is the the same as the answer to mine.....which was the reason I originally asked the question in the 1st place. Also, there are plenty of coordinators that get fired without being on a hot seat, so saying that because coordinators get fired there must be a hot seat is flawed logic.

To tie this back to Pep and agree with what I believe you were trying to say.....yes......the OC is always on a "hot seat" by his own fanbase, but that is not an accurate assessment for our team up to this point. I would personally say the DC's seat should be alot warmer due to way less injuries to deal with, but hey.........i think we can agree that I'm also just a Colts fan wanting more wins.

  5. Amped for this one.....or is it nerves.....anyway, I wanna see what we got. They giving our 1st unit (or we earned) a top 5 overall DEF ranking so far this preseason, then they backhand us by saying Jets and Giants are trash. Tonight.....there will be no excuses. When we lock up NO's run and get in Drew's face, then they can run and tell that.

  6. It's his system either way you slice it

Soooo....what you are basically saying is that every week Pep sits in a room by himself and makes up the offensive gameplan and no one weighs in on it? If you were a head coach, is this how you would operate YOUR team? Funny, i've never heard of an OC on the "hot seat" before, IND is a very unique place i guess. Listen, the OC is only responsible for how, the head coach is responsible for the why.

C Pagano says "we need to get H Nicks isolated on the backside of our 31 sets", Pep goes into his system and translates that into the actual terminology for A Luck.

As far as Pep's "system" not working, we were top 3 in starters lost to injury last year and Pep had the same record Coach of the Year B Arians had. This seems like an offseason thread, not one for a time when we are actually able to see the team resonding to OUR OFF & DEF systems.

  7. Better at what? Peyton has been "better" than Tom before, and Tom has been "better" than Peyton before. Neither one is "better" all the time. A QB is only as good as his last game, and the last game I seen Peyton and Tom play, they both looked bad. Outside of boxing, the "best" does not win all the time.

Peyton and Tom may play the same position, but actually they run two very different offenses.

  8. I think this is a concern. It's exactly what they did to Manning.

P Manning's "they" has nothing to do with A Luck's "they".

P Manning became the greatest QB of all-time because he could eliminate the necessity of an offensive coordinator and refine his offensive gameplan at the line of scrimmage. Tom Moore's job was to let everyone else know what Peyton was doing and why. This is the future of the QB position and is 80% of what made A Luck a lock as a #1 pick. You want your QB to be able to manipulate the OFF at the LOS. I would rather have my OFF's success linked to the work ethic of my QB, than the relationship of my QB and OC. To me the latter doesn't work because one is always above the other. It may take a year or 2 longer, but with the weapons at A Luck's disposal, he will easily become the standard of NFL QB's.

  9. So glad to hear he got another chance to prove his worth. Samson took a beaten last year from our fans, and I believe he was the lowest rated Center. The only player that maybe wished Satele stayed was T Rich, as all of the Satele hate seemed to go towards him after the release.

I hope he takes the necessary steps to earn the respect in his new opportunity.

  10. The short answer is no one knows exactly how future will play out, so this question is a waste of your worry. The long answer involves understanding how teams are built.

First off, throughout the history of the draft, i highly doubt many (if any) teams hit on every pick to where every pick needed to be resigned. Although I am a Colts fan and am personally invested in those 6 players, the same rules apply.

Put A Luck in a separate category. He will always be properly compensated and spend most if not all of his career in IND. So from that list, as of right now, only one name is a definite resign, and that's TY Hilton. He will see a major contract offer from IND as the $750k he's making now is a bargain.

Side note - isn't it funny how NFL fans will complain when their players ask for big money, but ignore the 2 or 3 years they played for less than their value. If you look at the top 5 highest paid WR's, TY outplayed all of them but one last year.

Anyway, next important signing in my opinion obviously is C Fleenor. Even though I wish he had D Allen's bite to him, his skill set is very hard to find in a player. Again, this is as of right now. I cannot say D Allen, J Chapman or V Ballard is a must resign because we won 11 games without D Allen or J chapman and are about to win at least 10 more games without V Ballard.

And with all that said, IND will have the money to sign them all if they want to because none of them are making serious money and like I said, besides Luck and TY, no one else will have the leverage to "break the bank". Just worry about this year because it will be the single biggest indicator of how next year will play out.

  11. I felt like we never catch a break with injuries, but wasn't sure because it may feel like that because I only pay attention to my team. But when I did some research, it was actually worse than I thought. We had two 11-win seasons while in the Top 3 for most time missed due to injury.

I won't complain about resting players anymore. We had as mure talent on IR than some teams have period. At least on OFF anyway. We already lost 2 players that were starting when they were injured.........the 1st time. What if this is like a Manning Curse. After all, isn't all this the result of a neck injury. Heck, even J Irsay and C Pagano have been "injured" What if we made the wrong choice and upset the injury gods.

Just kidding about the curse by the way. The Release happened 3 years ago, not 8.

  12. Wow........this question can be answered a number of ways. I'll choose to go in this direction.

The year IND won the Super Bowl was my single most exciting as a fan. I was there from day 1.....actually ......before day 1. I was there through free agency, the draft, camp and all the preseason games. So as we started our season, gained momentum, and went into the playoffs.......it was like I was really part of history being made. When teams go into the playoffs with their "us against the world" mentality, I really felt on the "us" side, not just some bandwagon groupie trying to back a winner.

If you thought that comeback vs KC last year was amazing, it didn't have spit compared to down 18 after a pick 6 by A Samuels vs NE that year. This is why I would go to training camp. How cool is it to watch your team go from not knowing who will start at every position in July, to playing in a Super Bowl 6 months later. Peyton Manning is the greatest QB to ever play the game...... he's got as many rings as R Wilson. Super Bowl rings are sooooo elusive that being there for your favorite team from the very beginning is priceless.

  13. Its not really like that. The result of the play is almost irrelevant. What the coaching staff is looking at is proper technique. The ability to make proper reads, then react effectively and efficiently. How to explain.

We all should be familiar with how Peyton Manning gets the credit for getting his team into the best plays from the LOS. What that means is no play works against every defense. To go further, the exact same OFF passing play will have a different route progression against different defenses. Right now in camp they in the stage of intentionally putting players in good/bad situations to see if they can succeed under pressure. If a RB gains 6 yards on a run, that could be good for the RB, but bad for the OL or vice verse. The RB could have bounced it outside, ran through wrong hole, NT got held......all kinds of things.

Outside of WR's catching the ball to complete a play, there isn't much us outsiders can learn until preseason games. Unfortunately, this time of year is when the coaches earn their checks while we pray for no injuries and try to patiently wait to support their position-battle decisions starting when the preseason games begin.

But to answer the question, I feel the maturation of an OL takes the longest to achieve due to its 5-7 moving parts, so I wish them the most success.

  14. Weird topic. If we beat Denver...........then we just beat Denver.  If beating Denver Week 1 is a big deal to you, than obviously you think Denver is a better team than us. I don't see any "beat Jacksonville" threads. To the people saying "we are better than Denver".......huh? Are you saying as s prediction, speaking on last year or just showing support for the team? Either way, last year, we drafted before Denver so that says it all about that, and this year hasn't started yet so its hard to say who's a "better" team.

Side note - regardless of who is better, R Mathis will not be playing. Advantage = DEN. To say we dont need R Mathis is asinine. With or without R Mathis we were going to be underdogs. We have a team with question marks at every position except QB. I expect us to compete with every team we play and have an opportunity to win in the 4th quarter. Yes, we beat some good teams last year, but were embarrassed by a few also.

  15. Yeah i'd be concerned..........if you were talking about Madden 15 and by "knowing the plays" you meant sitting right next to me as I am calling them or worse, seeing my playart at the line of scrimmage. But since you are talking about real life......no, i'm not worried about whatever it is you were trying to explain.

I would add that football is more complicated than most people understand. (which is on full display in almost all discussions about T Richardson i might add) When we run a play that works, its not successful just because the other team didnt know what play we called or vice verse. There isnt a play or route concept or scheme that works against every defense ( or like Madden) everyone would run it. In my opinion, I look at Pep and other Offensive Coordinators like pitchers. Some have 2 pitches to work with, some have 5. Due to a weak OL and key injuries, Pep hasnt had an opportunity to develop all 5 of his pitches. I believe our OFF wont need to disguise much. D Allen and C Fleenor give us a lot of flexibility. They can be on the field for power runs all the way up to a 4wr spread look. (Really a 2WR 2TE 1RB but you know what I mean)

We are finally to a point where this will all come down to the OL, so in my opinion, that's my only concern on OFF this year.

  16. Wow, this site cares more about a practice squad WR than any team in the league I bet. I know its mostly boredom and a longing for training camp to begin, but dizzaam. Grif Walen was an UDFA, so when he was on the practice squad he could have been claimed by any other team. He wasn't, so if he wasn't on our team, he wouldn't be in the league. Grif and Rodgers are hopefully irrelevant outside of special teams in the grand scheme of getting to and winning the AFC Championship game. Because if we need quality snaps from them, that means we have injuries at WR.....again.

Adding H Nicks was major in allowing us to not need R Wayne to be in pro bowl form week 1. Drafting D Moncrief in the 3rd round was the steal of the draft as far as deep playoff contending teams filling a need. That gives us 4 WR's, 2 TE's and 3 RB's to move the ball with. Oh yeah, with only 2 of those players being in our OFF for the 1st time. Grif Walen became useful to us only after D Allen, V Ballard and R Wayne's season ended, DHB busted, and our "power run scheme" changed. He doesn't have the same value if the OFF is at 100%.

And as far as the L Brazil situation, no, it is not better for anyone to win their spot by default instead of by intense competition. Side note on L Brazil, interesting how L Brazil was drug through the mud, but J Irsay got a pass. I understand, just thought it was interesting seeing how they both have multiple infractions. Anyway, our WR situation is considered a strength, so I feel there are a few other #1 or #2 spots on our roster that warrant more concern than our 5th or 6th WR spots.

  17. How would a number change shock "the world"? Even taking number 88 is only relevant to IND fans. How many numbers do you care about on other teams? The only way he could shock "the world" is to retire. Period. Other than that, take a crazy contract that lets us keep him for 7-10 years at an extreme value.

  18. and he beat Luke Kuechly to make it there.......ridiculous, Kaepernick isn't half the football player that Kuechly is.

Ridiculous? What does "being half the football player" have to do with a Madden Cover? How many players on the Madden Cover won the Super Bowl the year they was on the cover? None. So who cares, its just a cool way to involve fans in a major decision, It couldn't be telling us who the best player for a year that hasn't even started yet is. Heck, Payton Hillis was on the cover recently.

  19. I see why Skip gets the big bucks. Its gotta take a certain level of skill, to get people that expect nonsense from you, to still flip out when you say stuff. He makes the people reacting just as much comedy as his biased   comments.

You do know that for sports journalism ESPN is a dream job right? And that ESPN First Take is up there with PTI? Then trust me, if Skip Bayless wasn't doing EXACTLY what he was being paid to do, he'd get fired DURING the show. (slight exaggeration)

Skip just leverages the odds(based on history) against the present to predict the future. Ever hear him say "history is on my side" or "the numbers support me". He's just gets things right sometimes diue to his deep knowledge of the past. Its not hard to say LBJ will never get more rings than Jordan, only a handful of people have more rings than jordan, the youngest R Horry. Its not hard to pick RGIII to have quicker success than A Luck, RGIII ran and the read-option gimmick was just taking off. Also, we were a legit #1 pick team, WAS moved up.

Skip is not a clown, he just decided to make a living being the antagonist. And a nice living does he make. So do yourself a favor, laugh and move on. I only watch when there are competent guests on there that go at him. Other than that, I pass.

  20. Interesting comments. So, its frowned upon when a professional athlete walks and talks like he's better than us common folks, but when they do something that would happen to us regular folks in similar situations you want to hold them to some "higher" standard. People have always, and will always get in trouble in certain situations for the rest of human existence. Men will always have trouble with women on numerous levels, men will always make bad decisions when drugs and/or alcohol is involved and people will always have vices. (some healthier than others)

The problem here is acting as if these things shouldn't be happening because these are professional athletes. When did they stop being human. There are professionals at every level job in America (including past presidents) getting in trouble, its just athletes scroll across a 24 hour ticker. Stop acting shocked and dramatic when a man only rich because of his talent in a sport, does something he can afford to get out of.
