That isn't true at all.   Latu has always been a d lineman

Maybe I'm using incorrect terminology when saying he's an OLB (EDGE might be more appropriate, but I'm not sure what an EDGE encompasses compared to a 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB ), but I definitely have seen seen him have more reps standing up than with his hand on the ground. He also was asked to play in coverage as well.

  2. It seems most of his pass rush production has been as a standing OLB. He does have reps with his hand on the ground where he's produced as well, but he was asked to rush standing up most of the time. Hopefully that isn't a big transition for him, because it is for some people.

What lies do you think you’ve caught Ballard in?    You're upset because he didn’t draft the player you wanted — Fine.

But why shouldn’t people here believe him.  He’s always been pretty candid and straight forward.   You’re entitled not to like Ballard but I don’t get the “I don’t believe him” crack?

I agree. I definitely don't like some of the moves Ballard makes, but when he speaks he is usually pretty transparent.

BTW was reading somewhere that the 49ers are looking to trade Deebo rather than Aiyuk. This is interesting... is it possible Ballard trades for him?

I'd only want Deebo for maybe a 3rd round pick due to his contract, age, and health concerns. Still could be a fantastic weapon for a few years, but he was injured a ton last year.

i agree there are a lot of good players left but i would have loved one of the elite wrs to have fallen to us, now we have just good wrs to pick from

Ballard admitting they were trying to trade up for a WR at least tells me that he is serious about wanting to add an elite weapon (not just good) to his team. Plenty of people, including myself, thought he wasn't serious about making that move, it would cost too much, etc.

Maybe he calls up the 49ers for Aiyuk, who could fit that elite bill pretty well, and is still pretty young.

  6. I'd like to get Mitchell, but he's probably going at the top of the second. Not to big of a fan of any of the other WRs projected in the second round. Most of the top talent at that spot were taken in an extremely offense centered round 1.

Based on what Ballard said in his presser, he does realize that this team needs an explosive pass catcher, which is why he wanted to trade up. Maybe a trade with the 49ers is an option here. It could help explain why Buckner's contract was restructured.

And it was for an offensive player he basically said!

I mean we did get the first defensive player off the board at 15. If he offered a lot to trade up it most likely meant that he wanted to get one of Nabers, Odunze, or MHJ.

Who knows though, maybe we trade our second (and probably a bit more) for one of the 49ers WRs tomorrow.

Seriously guys, Edge was a need no one was talking about. Last year we had a lot of sacks but not a lot of pressures. Plus Paye and Dayo are FAs next year m, but neither has cracked more than 8.5 sacks.

Sacks are just pressures that were finalized, no? The fact is that Paye/Dayo, who are a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder respectively, are being demoted in the depth chart for this guy, which is what originally annoyed me with this pick as this essentially indicates that the front office missed on these guys (and Banagou). I don't know much about Latu himself or his talent, so I hope Ballard finally got this one right :)

Here comes the Ballard love. Unbelievable how every year you guys convince yourself in trusting his judgement. There is no proof in the pudding. He could’ve went several different ways and been better. We didn’t turn the pick in until late. At some point he’s got to run out of passes. Edge shouldn’t even be a position of need if he gets things right, two years ago.

While I agree that the Colts FO should be dinged for their past misses at DE (and they've been misses with high capital), it's not like DE is a spot that you should ignore a potentially elite player at, even if we're okay at the spot. I'm way more concerned about his injury over drafting a DE, albeit I'd prefer getting the top corner.

Ballard's pass rides on how this team does with AR at the helm. If that doesn't turn out well, anyone who keeps supporting Ballard is crazy. We haven't seen how that looks like yet.

Is this an admission of failure on Paye?  They literally had their pick of any defensive player in this draft and they go EDGE again?!   I’m losing my patience with Ballard.

appears the Vikings were shocked as well.

    Paye - 1st

    Dayo - 2nd

    Banagou - 2nd

That's a ton of backups that Ballard and team have picked at DE.

I mean, yes it is. I don't know enough about this guy to say much about him, but this pick essentially means that Paye and Dayo are being relegated to backups (who cost a ton of capital).

The fact that his university (Washington) told him to retire due to his neck injury is extremely concerning. Especially after all the fun stuff we as Colts fan went through with Leonard. I hope it works out but I definitely didn't think pass rush was a big concern for the Colts. I'd rather have picked CB if we were going to go defense.

That is a very inaccurate description of what happened.  At this point it’s history and doesn’t need to be revisited but I will say Chloe adds value to this board and should be and is by most encouraged to post, even if people don’t always agree with her.

There's plenty of active people on this forum in the last year or so that actively look to insult/berate people they don't agree with, especially towards Chloe and a few others. I've been on this forum since I was like 13 in 2009 and it's been pretty rough reading a thread now without some sort of squabble happening lol. Maybe it's a product of the social media age, but it's frankly annoying that some people aren't able to just ignore something they don't agree with, or at least attempt to make a response that isn't a cheap shot.

I may be a bit more conservative here but if we trade away next years first and find out that Richardson is NOT the guy … (it could happen)

We could be giving up another swing at QB

I don't think it's smart to give up on any QB that is essentially in their rookie year in regards to playtime. Ballard already noted when AR is drafted that he'd take some time.

The only way I see AR being gone next year is if there's a clean sweep of Ballard and Steichen. I doubt that happens even with an awful season.

Wish we still had him ....

Ballard should have never cut him. I want Ogletree on the team as well considering charges were dropped (I believe), but his whole fiasco with his fiance where battery might have been involved was way more of a sensitive topic and understandable of being cut for than Rodgers friend betting 1k on his account on a Colts run stat over/under. That's the worse thing Rodgers was found guilty of, and now we have Colts fans trying to convince themselves we need a RD1 CB pick after 3 were chosen in last year's draft...

He did a podcast detailing what he bet on with Franklin and Speed in case others haven't seen it. Much ado about nothing imho and it's obvious the locker room still like him/didn't think he was negatively trying to affect the outcome of games, and they would know best on that over anyone.
