Cap numbers not included because we're in a position where using all of our CAP is impossibly unlikely. Front-load all of our contracts to take advantage of our current situation and make sure we'll have enough space in future years to retain our youngsters.
Priority Re-Sign:
Mark Glowinski - OG - Solid starter who helped us out when called upon. Pay him a moderate contract.
Clayton Geathers - SS - I don't care what PFF says; this man is worth more to our defense than what their rating shows.
Likely Re-Sign:
Dontrelle Inman - WR - Solid veteran
Evan Boehm - C - Great backup to have
Adam Vinatieri - K - I don't mind going younger here, but keep him if he wants to play
Margus Hunt - DT - I get the feeling this is who will be able to play for years, and he'll just keep getting better
Pierre Desir - CB - Pay him even if we only plan to use him against Houston
Luke Rhodes - LS - I guess we need him
Matthias Farley - FS - Forgotten due to injury, but a great third safety to have
Free Agents:
Grady Jarrett - DT - Falcons - If he hits the market, we pay him what he wants. Front-loading the contract should benefit both of us, and we should be a fairly attractive destination this offseason. He's a young difference maker, and he would help cover our lack of a true edge rusher (I don't see Lawrence, Clowney, or Ford hitting the market; and I don't want Clark due to his domestic violence arrest).
Bradley Roby - CB - Broncos - Would be great in our primarily-zone defense. Still young and shouldn't demand too high a price considering he's never been the best CB on his own team (backup plan is Jason Verrett).
Shaquil Barrett - Edge - Broncos - Under-utilized in a crowded edge rotation with Miller, Chubb, and Shane Ray (who is also a FA and a backup plan).
Adam Humphries - WR - Buccaneers - Great slot weapon, and we need to give Luck more help (backup plan is Devin Funchess for the outside and get a slot in the draft).
I also want to make an attempt for KJ Wright - SLB - Seahawks, but I don't think we get him.
Draft:
We're gonna go BPA throughout the draft, but my mock is going to be a little more targeted. Ideally, we leave the first two rounds with an edge rusher, a CB, and a WR. I was hoping for Sweat, Byron Murphy, and Deebo Samuel; but that's no longer an option.
Round 1: Byron Murphy - CB - Washington - An excellent zone-cover CB. I know this position isn't necessary for our defense to run effectively, but he'll make the whole team better.
Round 2A: Jaylon Ferguson - DE - Louisiana Tech - He knows how to get to the QB. Would pair well with Turray after a few years of both of them learning under Robert Mathis.
Round 2B: Parris Campbell - WR - Ohio State - Has the potential to be great, but needs a better QB. Slips because of his hands, but that problem isn't new for Andrew Luck.
Round 3: Amani Hooker - SS - Iowa - I love how our defense played when we had three safeties on the field, and I want to strengthen that formation.
Round 4A: Trayvon Mullen - CB - Clemson - Definitely has the skills to develop in our system.
Round 4B: Terrill Hanks - SLB - New Mexico State - I like Walker love Leonard, but we need a strong-side playmaker.
Round 5: Olisaemeka Udoh - OT - Elon - Tackle project who could become a great RT.
Round 6: Hunter Renfrow - WR - Clemson - Slot WR with a lot of talent.
Round 7: Lanard Bonner - OG - Arkansas State - Ballard loves to build the trenches, and he wants 10 starter-quality players. After a few years, this guy can be number 6? 7? Point is, we're getting there.
Roster:
QB: Luck, Brissett, Kaya
RB: Mack, Wilkins, Hines
WR1: Hilton, Inman, Fountain
WR2: Campbell, Cain
WRS: Humphries, Renfrow
TE: Ebron, Doyle, Alie-Cox
LT: Castonzo, Clark
LG: Nelson, Haeg
C: Kelly, Boehm
RG: Glowinski, Bonner
RT: Smith, Udoh
DE: Sheard, Turray
NT: Hunt, Ridgeway, Stewart
UT: Jarrett, Autry, Lewis, Ward
DE: Barrett, Ferguson, Muhammed
SLB: Hanks, Adams
MLB: Walker, Franklin
WLB: Leonard, Moore
CB1: Murphy, Wilson, Mullen
CB2: Roby, Desir, Hairston
CBS: Moore
FS: Hooker, Farley
SS: Geathers, Hooker, Odum

Because Kelly may be better, but he just can't seem to stay on the field?
Missing time doesn't really influence their ratings. Players are only graded for their performance on the field. Playing while injured can drop a player if their performance dips, but missing time does not negatively influence their grade.
5 hours ago, DaveA1102 said:Interesting to note Castonzo coming in at 3, with an almost identical grade to Big Q. I am sure Nelson actually started the year with poor grading over the first few weeks (although it was against tough competition without Castonzo alongside) and so this reflects how well he finished the year.
Castonzo is also playing a position that seems to receive higher grades. He's only 13th or so as a tackle, while Big Q is the third highest guard with a similar rating.

I like that this thread started with us picking at #6. As the thread goes along, we just keep moving back. All the way to #26.

I get the feeling TY the Ghost is gonna have a good day!

Hopefully, he's named in both!
Colts beat the Chiefs this week.
Chargers beat the Patriots so bad that Tom Brady retires right then and there.
Luck is named a replacement for the false GOAT.
Colts beat the Chargers to make it to the Super Bowl!

Chiefs haven't been the same since Hunt got kicked out. They lost a major act in Andy Reid's circus, and they don't have a replacement. They are definitely vulnerable.

Cody Parkey??? Are you joking???
Well, I guess he didn't learn how to be clutch. Still a decent kicker, though.
And I think Brandon McManus came here as a rookie too.

Vinny has had a few good kickers come learn from him for a preseason. I remember Cody Parkey, at least.

Short memories around here... Seven years ago, there was as much hype about the Colts and Grigson's first year as there is now. We had a new generational QB, several draft hits, and a ton of cap space.
I'm all about Ballard, but it took two or three years for Grigson's decisions to turn sour.
Ballard already has two more All-Pro picks than Grigson.

Prescott is better than Luck just look at the stats
Luck 3900 yards 34 TD 13 int 98.4 QBR
Prescott 3300 yards 17 TD 8 int 94.0 QBR
Luck is turnover machine
If only Prescott had Lucks o line

If only Dallas had a running game.

I take their rating no more seriously than ratings in Madden.
Some of their stats are interesting, but I've noticed they use them to justify some of their more ridiculous claims.

Screw that. I'm rooting for the Colts to win out and Pats to lose out.
That puts us at 10-6 and them at 9-7. Hopefully they lose their division and miss the playoffs entirely. I will never root for them to win as long as Brady and Bilechick (spelled that way on purpose) are allowed to cheat and keep their rings.

Spencer Ware better find his helmet.

Can someone better than me grab a frame of that disrespect? Possibly a close up?

I think he's fabricating excuses ahead of time in order to justify the beating his team is about to receive.

I am not sure how Nick Chubb is on the pass protection front, I think Duke Johnson just became more valuable in PPR leagues.
But do I snag Chubb, Johnson, Martin, or Richard?!? I only have one person worth dropping!

I don't believe he was anti-Nelson, he was pro-R. Smith at that position in the draft. Which is understandable, R. Smith was a top rated LB.
18 minutes ago, jvan1973 said:Polian didn't believe in drafting guards high. He did find some good ones over the years. I was happy with the Nelson pick. Many disagree, but if he is our guard for 10 years, it was a good pick
That seems a little funny to me, because I don't remember Polian being that pro-LB. The only LB I remember him drafting high was Rob Morris, and it seemed like he let a starting calibur LB leave in every offseason. Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thornton, Cato June...

That'll show the Patriots. They'll have 12 wins instead of 13 and still get a first round bye while we miss the playoffs in your scenario. I wish people would think this question through instead of using their emotions so much.
29 minutes ago, NewColtsFan said:We are rooting for New England.
Why is this even a question?
We don’t root for teams in our own division. I appreciate that we also HATE New England, but I’d much prefer the Patriots winning to the Jaguars.
I watch football for the enjoyment of it.
I enjoy when my team wins and does well.
I enjoy when players that I happen to like succeed.
I enjoy when the Patriots fail.
I would rather the Jags win and hopefully keep New England from a first round bye. If we make the playoffs, IT WILL BE AS A WILD CARD. I have already come to terms with the fact that we will not be stealing the division from the Jaguars this year, so I have no reason to root against them in games that do not include us. I DO NOT want the Patriots to have the top seed in the AFC, so I am rooting against them each and every week.
-
If it took a New England win to put the Colts into the playoffs, I would STILL root against them.
There has never been a franchise whose conduct has made them more undeserving of any form of goodwill.
When I lay dying, I only hope I can muster the strength to curse New England one final time.
GO JAGS!

Why does it have to be one or the other? If a player is available, and signing/drafting that player helps your team, why should it matter where they came from? Draft picks are cheaper, but filling a whole roster with players on a rookie deal is unrealistic.
What is the real difference between signing a player from free agency and resigning a current player that has reached the end of their deal with the Colts? If they're past their rookie deal, they should still be considered free agents in my eyes. They just chose to re-sign with the same team.
28 minutes ago, Defjamz26 said:People will come in and try and talk about the Jaguars or Broncos from 3-4 years ago but those teams built through the draft first. The core players were all drafted. Jacksonville had like 4 Top 5 picks in a 5 year span. Denver had guys like Von Miller, Malik Jackson, Derek Wolfe, Chris Harris Jr. (UDFA), Demaryius Thomas, etc... who they all drafted.
You can’t buy a contender. You have to build it.
Denver had Manning, Sanders, Talib, Ware, Vasquez, Darian Stewart, TJ Ward, Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels, Brandon Marshall...
Jacksonville has Norwell, Campbell, Jackson, Dareus, Bouye, Gipson, Church, Moncreif, Jermey Parnell...
To say these teams built through the draft more than they built through free agency is stretching the truth a little bit. They hit on the draft for a few years in a row which got them a bunch of real cheap playmakers, and this allowed them to use ridiculous amounts of CAP space on getting the best free agents. The draft got them in a great position, but free agency took them over the edge.

Question? When are the Colts going to get one of those awesome RBs everyone says you can find in the 3-5 RDs?
We can't find a bell cow, but we can sure build a herd. Mack was a 4, Turbin was a 4, Hines was a 4, Wilkins was a 5.

It's definitely true that I made it a focus, but I think our roster warrants it. We only have Hilton, Cain, Pascal, and Fountain under contract right now (not counting practice squad). Inman deserves to be re-signed, and I see three players coming in to compete for the spots opened up by Rogers and Grant. I'm not against switching a WR acquisition for a TE acquisition, but I definitely want to add more weapons on offense.
I wouldn't mind Baker or Oruwariye, but I still think Murphy is the best fit for what we showed last year. I'm still not sure if 'Flus was fitting his scheme to our talents or if he wants to play zone 90% of the time. If we're staying with our scheme from last year, I think Murphy is the perfect corner.
And when I started researching for this mock (maybe two weeks ago), Sweat was my first target (and a realistic option)! That all went straight out the window.
