  1. We went through a good series of young linebackers (Polian was extremely good at finding them, but he never seemed to keep them) in the early 2000s.  Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thornton, Cato June...

I think we had all but Peterson on the team in 2003 as well as Gary Bracket and Rob Morris.

  2. Conditional does not necessarily mean it will go away if he doesn't make the roster.  It just means that it can change under certain conditions.  Like:

    It's a round 5 UNLESS he doesn't make the team; THEN it's a round 6.

    or

    It's a round 6 UNLESS he starts 10+ games; THEN it's a round 4.

a couple match ups i am excited about in the upcoming practices .

    1. browns O line against Indy d line. How has your pass rush been so far in camp?   it has been a struggle so far in camp with the browns D line causing lots of pressure. interested to see if its just the browns D line or if its going to be a cause for concern.

    2. Njoku against leonard especially in the redzone. Njoku has been making multiple TD catches per practice. the browns dont have a LB that can matchup with his size and jumping ability. leonard is so long that i think it will be a good battle.

    3. both teams WR vs CB battles. both teams have good CB's and WR's it should be fun to see how it goes.

    1.  I think CLE will have the advantage inside unless Autry can continue his current form.  He's been handling Nelson pretty well in camp so far.  The edges should be anyone's guess.  Houston will probably win a few snaps, but outside of him both teams are pretty young.  Turray and Banogu show promise, but they're both still raw.  Extremely raw.

    2.  You'll be disappointed looking for this.  I doubt we'll do much man coverage against Njoku, and it'll probably be Quincy Wilson or a safety covering him if we go man.  Reich keeps it pretty vanilla in preseason.

    3.  Once again, I think Reich's vanilla coverage schemes should give CLE (especially Landry) a clear advantage here against the Indy defense.  The CLE corners versus Indy WRs should be a lot of fun to watch, though (even with Campbell out).  I expect Hilton to put on a decent show; and Cain, Johnson, and Fountain should be the names to look out for against the CLE backups.

Grover was listed around 330 last season.
If you look at this years roster he is at 315. The "New Grover".
We ARE Desperate for faster LB's than we had for depth last season. THAT was our weak link. Speed and Okereke were added to fix that. We will see.

Just hope Big Q doesn't have suspension issues like Lewan has had. Q doesn't seem to be like that though. He is a nasty player, but he doesn't let himself get out of control.

Besides the upcoming suspension (that seems more of an accident than a malicious attempt to cheat), has Lewan been suspended before?  I never thought of him as a player with "issues."

  6. To all those wondering about the players who dropped in ratings, the Madden team mentioned that they were "expanding" their rating system.  Where it pretty much used to be 99 to 60 (ish), it'll now be 99 to 30 (ish).

I'm not saying our LBs aren't rated lower than they should be, but there will be plenty of teams with starters in the 60s this year.

Manning's stats in this matchup weren't gaudy, but they were very efficient Completing 21-of-28 passes (75.0 percent) for 351 yards and a huge 12.5 yards per attempt. He only tossed one touchdown compared to two interceptions, but he hit on 10 passes of at least 10 yards including a pair of 60-plus-yard throws to Marvin Harrison.

I stand corrected.  Maybe they weren’t attributed to bad play on his part (batted at the line or knocked in the air by the receiver)?

This is part of the reason i cant really trust the PFF grades. How does a QB grade out that well throwing that many interceptions?

Are you referring to Manning's performances in the article?  The article is about single-game grades, and Manning didn't throw a single INT in either game.

The Gaethers injury concern is there and always will be until proven otherwise.  If his knee checks out this should be a nice veteran signing that will certainly improve the depth and experience at the position.

I don't think this is entirely about Geathers.  I think it's a combination of Geathers and Farley both sitting out.  Who do we have starting at SS in practices with both of them out?

Reich says the injury has forced Luck to modify some of his workouts, but No. 12 has done a little bit of throwing and there are no issues in his shoulder area. “Everything upper body wise is 10-out-of-10,” Reich said of Luck.

Can we please stop panicking about Luck not throwing now

Not until he tosses The Duke!

Next offseason we'll have the following picks as well:

    1

    2

    2

    3

    4

    5

    6

    7

Plus whatever compensatory picks for Brissett and whomever they decide not to re-sign that will likely get a contract elsewhere: Castonzo, Sheard, Funchess, Ebron, Doyle, Farley, Geathers, Clark, Haeg, Rogers and Boehm.

This will be the draft that creates the next wave of players to fill in the blanks on the depth chart.

If we lose anyone next year, we wouldn't get the comp picks until the 2021 draft.
