I agree with his general sentiment, but a couple of issues with the article.

    1) The very first sentence:

Actually, yes, it did.  There were many people who thought it was a mistake to keep both.

    2) Later on, he says:

In my opinion, that's downright ignorant.  People in Indy love the Colts.  Even if Pagano and Grigson are still around next year and the team has another 8-8 (or worse) season, the fans won't turn away from the team.  The Colts are very strongly ingrained into the community and it's foolish to suggest the fans will turn their backs on the team.  They'll be more angry and frustrated, but they won't forget about the the team completely.

Just in terms of the soft market part of the post...

I don't think he's knocking our fan base honestly. I think he's saying Indy fans won't pay for mediocrity LONG TERM. They'll find something better to spend there time and money on, which I feel is totally fine. I'm sure he said it knowing he'd get clicks for his article as well.

I remember in 06' flying in literally last minute to attend the KC wildcard game (tix were available still through tixmaster). To me that was our way of saying show me you're a good team or we won't come. Sure enough 2 weeks later I flew back in for the AFCCG and there wasn't much in terms of tickets available.

But I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing if attendance were to ever slide if this playoff drought got into 3,4 or 5 years because it'll force Jim to make changes.

We aren't the only fan base that applies to so I honestly don't think it was a jab. Nothing wrong if fans don't want to show up to watch bad football when they can hang with there friends or family on Sunday and just put the tv on.

If you want high attendance, you better win. Indy fans are within their rights to not show up if this bad play continues.

I don't think LOS will look like a museum, but I could surely see attendance slip.

I think the Colts record historically is one part of the expectation. The other part is having a franchise QB, one that most people would agree is one of the most talented QBs in the league. That's another reason why 8-8 season is substandard - if your starting point is having one of the top QBs in the league, this raises expectations.

For a random team 8-8 is average season.

For a random team with the no. 2 QB in the league(by some metrics), 8-8 season is not average.

Now you can go into factoring in the other positions, but then we go into roster construction and the job of the GM. Overall I'd agree with the people saying a team that has had one of the top QBs in the league for the last 5 years and the GM has had 5 years to build around this QB, a record of 8-8 is pretty disappointing... a record of 7-9 or 6-10(which we are likely to get this season) is abject disaster.

    Exactly how I feel.

If Tolzien were our starter and there was no Luck in the Colts picture I'd be ecstatic at this season. You can't keep missing the playoffs with a top 10 (arguably top 5) QB even if it's only a couple seasons. You know they're still going to have holes all over the place so it's no lock it's only a 2 year hiccup and we'll roll off a couple deep runs or get a SB or 2.

The thing that's annoying is we're pissing away Luck's elite years and/or injury free years.

We'll look pretty stupid if we squandered this chance. I can guarantee we won't be lucky again and draft a 3rd stud QB in a row. Next one will be an Andy Dalton type at best and then we won't have to worry about SB expectations because there won't be any.

He's gonna b 30 and can't stay healthy.  Vontae is pushing 30 and Butler is finishing up a career year at 30 pushing 31....likely gonna have DB problems in the coming years.

Definitely agree the CB situation could potentially get worse as well. Like we don't have enough holes.

Love Vontae, but he's starting to become a high mileage player who will most likely not be a #1 for more then a couple years at best. Not a knock on him, but CB is definitely a high body abuse position. Obviously football injuries occur at every position, but I hope you get how I meant that. CB's get in on a lot of tackles and running hard almost every play.

What a disappointing snapshot of the situation...

To the bolded, what's Pagano going to do different from Year 5 to Year 6? Unless the offense changes in these next three games, there's no reason to think some of these changes are going to be made next year. And even then... the offense was different down the stretch last year, and then they went back to this inefficient mess of a passing game. I'm not sure why the coaches are so set on making Luck do it the hard way; yes he can, at times, but imagine how much better he and the offense would be if we made things easy on him. Pagano isn't going to wake up tomorrow morning and be a different coach. Neither will Chud.

I don't think Luck has regressed at all. He had these stretches in Year 1 with Arians, Years 2 and 3 with Pep, and the first part of last year. The problem is the development hasn't happened at a sufficient rate, and I blame the coaching, specifically the gameplans and play calling. That being the case, it is fair to ask whether he'll ever be better than he is now, and that's a crying shame. And it points right to the offensive coaching, and Pagano, since this appears to be his preferred offense.

People exaggerate how bad Pagano is. He's not bad, really. Good enough to get you 8+ wins with a mediocre roster, good enough to get you 10-11 wins with good QBing, and you'll probably beat mediocre teams consistently, maybe once in a while slay a giant. He's not good enough to optimize his talent, though. As a matter of fact, this staff is probably holding the team back this year. It's arguable that with a better OC, the Colts would be at 8+ wins with a division title in the bag right now, even with Pagano, but what happens when we have to go to Foxborough in January? How do you stop the Steelers? He is not the right guy for a team that wants to go from pretty good to top notch contender. After five years, I'm convinced of that.

I doubt anything changes this year, though.

Just to comment on a part of this...

I also don't get how some players will come in and flash for a year or long stretch and then they suddenly stop developing or simply get worse. Guys don't ascend towards getting better, they're more boom then bust.

And totally agree with that paragraph that mentions NE and Pitt.

He just isn't that guy who will out-scheme an opponent or even have them (Colts obviously)prepared most times.

He feels like that person you knew you went out with for to long at some point in your life. There's no future here with Pagano, so why prolong the inevitable breakup.

No, not really.     And I never said anything about anyone getting paid.

I'm just curious what those that are always so critical on here (with good reason, I know)   would do and how they'd go about fixing it if they had the power to do so.

Apologies. Hard to sense tone when reading text sometimes.

Call me spoiled, but watching this team since the 80's and where it's come..we don't want these type years to become the norm.

Super Bowls aside, we have a winning culture around here, we shouldn't be getting worse as Luck matures.

Can't blame the GM for injuries, though I certainly hope people in Indy are looking into the issue.  Indy is consistently one of the most injured teams in the league.  They need to figure out why

In fairness every GM ever fired could use injuries as an excuse. He's just good at bringing in dud hopeful retreads.

  7. Along with all the other factors noted I'd think Luck is trying to make things happen a little too much which also compound the problems.

He knows he's got to score almost every possession and I'm sure he's pressing.

I also fault the organization for not going above and beyond to find a guy who will work to Luck's strengths. No Pep nonsense, someone who's proven they know offense. I honestly think an older league retread would help Luck more then a learning on the job OC.

I'm venting perhaps, but even if changing things again is seen as negative I feel like that's the route they have to go.

I feel like if anything our schemes have 'coached-down' Luck if you get what I'm saying. He's capable of better, but terrible schemes and protection (at times is brutal, regardless of some of their improvements) are slowly bringing him down in terms of his play.

    I remember another gem:

Josh McNary was actually facing backwards on one play that the Texans RB ran into his back.

After the game, I switched over to the Arizona game, and the LB made a nice tackle against the RB. I said, "man we should sign that guy, he can tackle"

    - It was Sio Moore.

That's actually one of my concerns with these guys. Do they really even know who to play?

A guy like Rodgers congress in and makes a solid contribution, but they can't get a guy like Moncrief one impact play per game?
