This is looking worse and worse in my opinion.  Started as a rumor that I didn't pay much attention to.   Now it seems serious.

My guess is that he retires.   He has almost $60 million dollars.  31 years old.   Smart guy.   Some may say it would be smart to play another season for $10-14 million.   He's set for life.

If I recall correctly, Super Bowls where the top offense and top defense play each other are extremely skewed in favour of the defense.  Two very recent examples would be the Manning Broncos being beaten by the Seahawks, and the Falcons losing to New England.

I want to see KC win it, but I think San Fran wins.  KC's OL hasn't done anything to impress me and KC's best running threat is Mahomes.  That's not a formula for success against a team with an elite defense and such a stout DL in San Fran.  Andy Reid is very smart and will come up with some good schemes to help, but I expect to see Mahomes running for his life on nearly every dropback.

I also feel bad for Justin Houston, leaving KC for a team he thought would be a Super Bowl contender, only to have the QB of that team retire and watch his former team make the Super Bowl.  Maybe they give him an honourary ring if they win.

I was thinking about that too. I could only think of the Rams (greatest show on turf) beating the Titans, but I don't remember if the defense was that special. But then pats turning around and beating the Rams the next year. I think their D was tough that year - but again I can't remember.

I think the 49'ers are going to stop KC. 49'ers Defense is nasty!

I love that football is fun to watch again - since the pats aren't in it.

Those 'back in the day' players wouldn't last one season in today's NFL.

Today's players are bigger, stronger and faster than most of the older eras players.

Playing through injuries and risking their futures is why there are some many that live substandard lifes today (those who lived ).

You want to rag on todays players for looking out for themselves?

You want to throw some hate on players who don't care if you get your violent fix?

    Lol,

Overall, today's kids have it so much easier than kids in the 40's who were shipped off to war, and then came back and resumed their lives; getting married, having kids, raising a family, starting a new career, etc.. so I agree with you there.

But there is so much new information out there about the dangers of CTE and its affect on the brain. With new information comes new decisions to be made.

I think this will be the norm moving forward, and not due to softness, but due to making informed decisions. Further, with the amount of money NFL players are making these days, it makes financial sense to play for a few years and then pursue other passions while you still have your health. The players in the old days were not afforded this opportunity.

I can get on board with that.

I'm referring to badasses like Ronnie Lott. He had his finger cut off instead of missing the rest of the game. Just hard as nails.

They just don't make dudes like that anymore.

    Today's kids understand it's only a game.

:dunno:  Soft? Not hardly, smart is what I call it.

Why should a millionaire play till they cant walk or face injuries that can effect them for the rest of their lives for fans enjoyment?

The human body was not designed to play football and it don't take a rocket scientist to understand why a player decides to retire.

Maybe a bit.   But they are also not looking to work their butts off and risk their health when they have millions of $$ in the bank.

I do think Luck had some influence on these decisions.   Luke will have influence on the next few that retire early.

I'm saying that back in the day, guys were hard as nails and played through multiple injuries and wouldn't quit so easily. Those guys played for the team, unlike kids today who play for themselves.
