  1. The thing is. If Howell (or who-ever will replace Bethea) plays two weeks or so mediocre, this forum will scream for Bethea.

People on here sometimes won't allow players to evolve before screaming for a replacement, and if the guy needs to settle and eventually could be really good, it could require patience.

    I'm up for it...

  2. I'm still expecting a safety being signed. I mean, Vontae got a 10 mil/year contract and let's not destroy our secondary with not giving him the proper help over the top.

He, and the other CBs, will need that.

Through draft or FA... Or else they've figured out Howell to be our version of Reed. That would surprise me. Pleasantly.

  3. If that's how he really feels about the O-Line than fine. He just better hope for his sake it works out. IMO he's already on somewhat thin ice with the Richardson trade and how badly Satele turned out. He needs to draft studs this draft, like he did in 2012, only this time on defense. Whether its a safety, CB, OLB,etc...it doesn't matter to me as long as they make an impact.

I think people need to stop focusing on the bad signings and instead start focusing on all the good things Grigs has done.

    - Andrew Luck

    - Vontae Davis x2

    - Jerrell Freeman

    - Gosder Cherilus

    - Darius Butler

    - TY Hilton

    - LaVon Brazill

    - Coby Fleener

    - Dwayne Allen

    - Cory Redding

    - Vick Ballard

    etc...

  4. Ok, so we're rolling with what we have, basically. My question is, what about the past 2 seasons should give me any confidence in this coaching staff to coach the young players up, or better yet, put the best 5 on the field? Satele and McGlynn continued to start, despite being outplayed by a number of players, while the guys that we're seemingly placing our trust in on the line going forward couldn't even get on the field last year.

Everyone keeps saying that Grigson has a plan and they trust him, but I'm of the opinion that he really doesn't have a plan, and is just being reactionary. Either that, or his plans and that of the coaching staffs aren't exactly the same. If the plan was to breed Holmes as the starter all along, he should've been in the damn rotation last year. You can trust this inexperienced regime all you want, but unless they blitz the offensive line issue in the draft early, I see another year of poor line play. That's inexcusable for a club that's supposedly going to field a power run attack. An absolute joke.

    Wasn't he injured?

  5. ...and we have ample cap room to make a couple mid-level moves and shore up some spots, and still have a bunch of cap to roll forward if necessary. Not sure why we Costa was the choice at center/guard, if we were only going to add one veteran lineman. I hope we don't wind up on the sidelines for the rest of free agency.

That's not too late at all.

My biggest concern right now is still the pass rush. Next to that the interior O-line.

But I'm not worried. Grigs has a plan. Though a couple of more draft picks wouldn't hurt. I agree on that.

  6. They could be getting Schaub from us. Read it on NFL.com, wouldn't be surprised if it happens, since Cleveland will probably get Bridgewater or Johnny in the Draft.

I think that would be a bad move for them. They would still need to draft a QB, IMO.

  7. As it pertains to the run game, it's not less important. Can't run the ball if you suck at center and guard. And we need to be able to run the ball better to have a more well-rounded offense. We have affordable guards, and there are more above average guards available on a yearly basis than centers, which is the position on the line that requires the most chemistry with the QB. I'd be fine paying a premium for a center.

Not overboard, like you say. I've warmed up to $10m/year, begrudgingly, but that won't land Mack. So I'm off the idea. I'd rather sign another good player -- Goodwin and Montgomery were both really good in the run game last year -- and continue developing Holmes.

You are right. I never claimed we can run the ball while sucking at center and guard.

But with our fortunate situation of having two really good T's (which aren't easy to find), I hope they'll take advantage of it building this well-rounded offensive line... And as you say, I can't see us landing Mack anymore. I'm hoping, though...

About Goodwin and Montgomery, I agree they could help us. But I have zero clue about Holmes. Is he any good?

Another thing - why do the Browns still have this huge amount of cap space left. What are they seeking?
