  1. I like Werner and agree very good at setting the edge, rushing the passer, and getting a jump on the snap.  I also went back and watched a lot of his games and am I the only one who notices he gives up on a lot of plays unless the action is right in front of him?  There is a good percentage of time he is not playing whistle to whistle.

I've read some analysis' saying the exact same thing.

But on the other hand, when it's in front of him, he hunts and hunts. Also has the ability to raise his hands if not making it to the quarterback. Good overview.

  2. I agree with this. I don't care about AP or whoever people want to throw out as an example. Nobody knew AP was going to be AP either when he was drafted. Chances are RB's aren't going to be anything special and late rd. RB or even UDFA's can turn out to be good players. So like Tknight said and as I have said hundreds of times...no way would I ever use a 1st rd. pick of a RB.

As with ANY player and position. No one knows how they'll turn out in the NFL. This is not only regarding RBs.

  3. Never use a 1st on a RB

Sorry, but I really think this is nonsense. You can't just put a labor on 1st round RBs. There'll always be hidden gems with all positions, including RB, but it doesn't mean there wont be really valuable ones in the 1st round. Regardless of position.

Doug Martin, C.J. Spiller, Darren McFadden, Chris Johnson, Jonathan Stewart, Adrian Peterson were drafted in the first round... They're pretty good.

  4. Based on that I do wonder if it was Moss :P

Well, it was fun while it lasted guys, it does seem to have created support though for the idea of drafting a WR in the 1st, something I don't think as many would have been in favor of pre-FA.

Definately not before. But the WR class is deep this year. Would still prefer a pass rusher in the 1st.

  5. Doesn't look like it was ever a trade. Sorry if this has been posted already:

    http://www.indystar.com/proart/20130320/sports03/303200055/colts-owner-jim-irsay-we-want-add-another-receiver-?pagerestricted=1

"He revealed during his conversation with The Indianapolis Star that the team was close to signing a veteran free agent — not arranging a trade for a player under contract — but the negotiations hit a snag.

“It was going along pretty decent,” Irsay said, “but you know how it goes. It’s a roller-coaster ride.”

He declined to identify the targeted player."

Yeah just read it. Interesting.

  6. " Come on man " Theres no way in the world  the Cardinals are going to give up the best wide receiver in the NFL! Irsay in his twitter comments always make its sound like were getting some really great player, and it always turns out to be some second tier guy.

The Vontae Davis trade worked out pretty well. He's not a second tier guy.

  7. I didn't see Butler covering Calvin Johnson much.

Vontae was exceptional in the latter end of the season. Injuries and maybe adjustment to scheme took their toll early on, come the end of the year he was our best player of defense.

One more thing in relation to the QB rating... it is a very flawed measurement when talking about CBs. Some CBs cover their man so well that the QB rarely throws their way, and only do when it is a high-percentage catch. Asomugha at the Raiders very rarely got the ball thrown his way because he was either pressing the receivers to not fulfill their routes in time or he was just air-tight to them, but when the ball was thrown his way, the receiver usually caught it, because it was a well designed play. So a QB rating would never have been a fair reflection on Asomugha who was arguably the best press-man corner in the league at the time.

This. Very nicely put mr. McGonnell

Just look at our PO game. Or against the Chiefs with three INTs (yes three, he got one taken away). Both were later games.

We can also now expect him to be fully recovered from his injuries when the season begins. Something one has to remember, after injury, they are often still not playing at 100%.

  8. i dont know why people think, WR is such a need. it isnt. Wayne, Hilton,Brazill, Whalen, Jeremy kelley, and nathan palmer

we already know the starters will be:

    1)Wayne

    2) Hilton

    3) Brazill/Whalen (slot)

lets be honest, Whalen will prob get the start over brazill for the slot position due to the new OC and type of offense he runs. whalen knows the offense. we dont need a big time WR. the draft needs to be focused on defense this year. maybe try our luck on a sleeper in the 6th round for a WR. but its not a big need. atleast that is my opinion.

I think one of these three will have a larger impact, than people believe. People tend to judge before they've seen anything.

I remember arguing a long time with people on this board whether or not to let Vick Ballard have a go since he'd only a 2.1 yard pr carry on 20 carries. They've already judged him there... Look how it turned out, when Brown got injured and he was given a proper chance.

WR is NOT a huge need, neither of our lines are completely fixed. Those will be the priorities in round 1. Later rounds perhaps - only if they don't believe in the bolded receivers. But Grigson has talked very nicely about Palmer, calling him one of the most explosive receivers, he's seen. And Brazill showed a lot. When Hamilton was Luck's coach, Whalen was the number one receiver. They've all got huge potential... So hopefully no WR in the 1st round.
