  1. I'm fine with Marlin btw as a pick because the Colts needed CBs. However, a WR and a HB were 2 wasted #1 picks (Gonzo, Brown). If nobody was available when the Colts turn came in the 1st, then why had they not already traded up?

Brown, I'll admit, was a shock, but we drafted Gonzo to replace Stokely. Pretty much everybody was on-board with that pick if I remember correctly. Now, looking at Collie and Garcon, the pick has lost value a smidge, but I think that since he's only played 2 games in 2 seasons some people forget that he's actually a solid WR (In 2007 = 37 Rep, 576 Yds, 3 TDs. 2008 = 57 Rep, 664 Yds, 4 TDs. Both seasons playing 3rd wheel with Marvin Harrison in the mix) who's never had a chance to actually be a featured starter for an entire season.

Sadly for us, he and Collie seem to both be in the same injury boat, so let's just knock on some wood and hope the four horsemen stay, for the first time, healthy for one entire season together.

Edit: Oh, and, Jerry Hughes this, Jerry Hughes that to stay on topic. :blah:

  2. Dungy-2 is a great system, plus we've drafted and signed players to the over the last 10 seasons to fit it, and changing it anytime soon would be a huge mistake.

    Period.

Adding in some blitz here and there is all well and good, but when you have the edge rushers that we have, you stick with the Dungy-2.

For instance; Gary Bracket is a perfect Mike for the system, but switching to a system like maybe a Jim Johnson blitz scheme would just completely mess with his effectiveness.

  3. A 5-3? wth is that?

5-3-5 is basically a 3-3-5 where the outside line backers purely crowd the line and rush. Several teams actually run their 3-4s more like a 4-3 (with 1 Joker) or a 5-2, which is basically what the ol' '80s era Bears used to run. (A formation of the 5-2 is actually called the 52 Bear.)

  4. John, I completely agree with you. It seems like the media always says "two pro bowler ends" but when they break it down it's always "freeney, freeney, freeney"... It's like how a few years after Marvin retired and we've had the emergence of Pierre, Gonzo, Collie and White, that now Peyton may of "made Marvin" and some people have even questioned Reggie! Total B.S.

Just cause a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tastes great doesn't mean that the jelly by itself is worse off.... Okay, so that was an awful example, but that's all I got. :D

  5. Like I said in another thread... I think he got frustrated with the Bears, and they got frustrated with him. I think he and Lovie Smith had some kind of major falling out behind the scenes...

Yeah, like how they sat him out even though he wasn't injured for that one game. Apparently he was furious over it. I can't remember the full story behind it, but it was something along the lines of he and Lovie having a dispute, like you were saying.

I'll have to check around to see if I can find that story I'm thinking of.

  6. why must i always do the dirty work around here?

allow me to post some excerpts from Lions/Eagles fans on from another forum:

    still feel like celebrating?

If Jags fans were to come on here and try to find recent topics on Clint Session, they would think we hated the guy's guts.

Besides that, there are loads of people on this very forum that don't agree with each other on player evaluations, so why would I blindly read posts with no context and accept them as gospel? That's just dumb.

how many times have you watched Sims? how many times have you broken down his plays? you guys just see his high tackle numbers and think they mean anything.

Umm actually, I've seen a lot of Sims. Between NFL Sunday ticket and NFLN Rewind, several National Televised games for the Eagles last season, and the Lions playing every thanksgiving(lol), I've seen a lot of him.

He's not perfect, but not every linebacker is Ray Lewis.

  7. Wow half of you people are acting like we just signed Suh, and the other half are acting like we just re-signed Quinn Pitcock.

    Seriously, it's low-risk, high-reward, and I'mma guess it'll probably end with a positive,

    Just my opinion. :)

  8. I couldn't care less about the first three season, it was last year were he didn't start hardly at all, didn't play many minutes, and still had 20 tackles and 2 sacks with a forced fumble. You gotta understand that those numbers are going to automatically go up by playing with Freeney and Mathis.. and the last two seasons he was always moving from DT and DE, but on our line he could esily play DT.

We've gone 3 DE before in our defense, you really think a 6'6" 290 guy is a down-grade in the middle?

And he wasn't moved to the middle because of low production, it was due to massive injuries for their guys at DT

Actually watch some Falcon games before you make up random statements.

  9. This has me stoked. I already liked the combo of Moala, Mookie, Nevis, Foster and Matthews at DT, and I love the Freeney, Mathis, Key, and Hughes combo at DE.

Basically I'm saying this guy could slide up and down the line, but I think he should probably rotate in at DT, but he'll probably end up starting due to injuries later in the season... *knock on wood*

Really like this move. Another yes-name player (the opposite of a no-name player?) to stick on our D.

    EDIT:

    Stats

G GS Comb Total Ast Sck SFTY PDef Int Yds Avg Lng TDs FF

    2010 Atlanta Falcons 16 3 21 16 5 2.0 -- 1 -- -- 0.0 -- -- 1

    2009 Atlanta Falcons 13 13 27 17 10 0.5 -- 2 -- -- 0.0 -- -- 0

    2008 Atlanta Falcons 15 15 27 24 3 2.0 -- 3 -- -- 0.0 -- -- 0

    2007 Atlanta Falcons 16 16 30 26 4 0.0 -- 3 -- -- 0.0 -- -- 1

  10. If he's so darn good, why weren't teams beating down his door to sign him? Geez, you people are easily amused.

It's all about scheme, my friend. He never really fit into the Eagles blitz-scheme, and the Lions sucked BAD the four years he was there.

He's not a huge name, so he doesn't fit into the other F.A.-Darlings being wined-and-dined, but the man can play.

A for-sure upgrade over Session (whom I--unlike 80% of the people on here after the Jags move--still wish he was on the team. Can you imagine every once in awhile having both of those guys on the outside?), He should start immediately.

Not the best LB in the world, but he's a scheme fit, and was actually one of the couple guys I hoped we'd target this off-season. Suffice to say, I'm stoked. :D

  11. My point exactly. I'll take a good player at any position on the field, but I really doubt Donte would want to sit behind Bullit on the depth chart, let alone share time at Safety.. Now if we are switching to some odd 3 safety defense then by all means... guess that'd make more sense out of the whole Hayden release :panic:

  12. Thanks, I was thinking he only made it once but wasn't sure. Most underrated FS in the game today IMO.

If you think about it, it's funny to say that about a 2-time pro bowler..... but it's 100% true. The guy is one of the best in the game but half of the TV announcers spend more time flip-flopping on how to pronounce his name than actually talking about his DB skills.
