  1. 2012 cap

    updated to reflect K. Hayden and J. McClendon carryover cap hits

    32 players under contract = $55.17MM

    9 players with dead cap space = $36.46MM

    Luck = $4.20MM

    20 Rookies= $9.3MM (allowing aggregate $1.5MM in premiums to picks #34 and #65)

    Total = $105.13MM

    Cap = $120.6MM

    Available = $15.47MM

    As good old Moe Howard used to say, "I'll keep it simple so even you can understand it..." Thanks, UndecidedFrog. Or is it---RustyNail? :)

    No offense intended to anyone in this topic by the way, the Moe quote was a reference to myself.

  2. Glad this got pinned. It was necessary to the many fans who weren't/still aren't understanding the cap. If you guys would go to the original link that UndecidedFrog posted, it would really help you. Trust me.

  3. Pat is a punter (and yes I know he kicked in college) if you have him kick, punt, and do kickoffs you'll kill his leg real quick. Also even if you did that then you still have to go get a new a holder so that will probably go into that money. Cutting Adam doesn't make a lot of sense. He's not going to kill you with the cap this year or in years to come. There just isn't enough money there to make it worth while.

    Also there is still the question of if we were going to relase him why not do it tonight when we cut everyone else? That doesn't make a lot of sense just to hang on to him to cut him down the road.

    But he might be ambidextrous... :)

  4. If we are going to release him I think it would have been done now when we released everyone else. Cutting him only saves 1.5 million by the time you eiher draft or sign another kicker you will have saved next to nothing by cutting him. It also makes another hole we have to fill. I think you let Adam play out the next year or two then go get a kicker then.

    McAfee is on the roster already.

  5. Whew. There's a LOT to reply to here!

    As far as the original post is concerned, I am concerned about the team, but we all knew the day would come at some point when the big names would be cut. We just didn't know it would happen all in the same week. Sure, it's not the classiest end to an era, but it is the smart end to an era. Wouldn't be surprised to see Adam Vinatieri cut at this point for McAfee, either. When you are in salary cap trouble, you have to pour your concern on that and get it fixed first, regardless of the casualties.

    Wouldn't it be interesting if Luck turned down the Colts? Hmm, not as much appeal now, is there? (Of course, I know he won't. Just speaking in jest.)

    As for all these people who keep using Green Bay and San Francisco for examples, it's great to be an optomistic. However, what do you have to say about Dallas after Aikman? Miami after Marino? New York after Namath? Didn't turn out glorious for them.

    The defense will be fine. We have plenty of young contributing players. Simms, Brayton, Anderson, Nevis, Mathis, Angerer, Powers, Bethea. We will draft four times in the first hundred picks this year, so we should get some real talent.

    The offense will be fine. Tamme, Brown, Carter, Eldridge, Gonzalez, Collie, etc. A few draft picks added on to that talent should help. Are we as good as we were? No, absolutely not. But that is the staple of rebuilding. It takes time to rebuild what once was. As long as you have a foundation, you're good to go.

    Am I concerned? Sure. In a strange way, though, I'm also relieved.

  6. Peyton was owed 17M this year and we still have 10.4M of that on our cap, but the following 3 years he would have been paid 18M-19M-20M.

    Who are 3 players you would like the Colts to pick up that would equal this amount of $$$ ?

    Draft picks, not free agents. Next three years, draft good, solid, young players. Sorry, I know you were looking for names.

  7. Looks to me like the forum is close to split. And all of those fans who voted that they would cheer for Manning are not 'untrue' fans of this team, in my opinion. This poll is about who the fans like more; Manning, or the Colts. It's not a we'll-soon-find-out-who-is-a-bandwagoner poll.

    Illustration: If this poll said, "Will You Ever Cheer For the Colts Again" there would be an overwhelming "YES!" response. It's just that when the Colts play Peyton, Peyton comes out ahead to those fans who voted for him.

    That does not make them 'bandwagoners' (sorry, PeytonGirl), because a 'bandwagoner' is someone who cheers for a particular team not because he likes them or follows them faithfully, but only because that particular team is the "popular" choice. And when that team starts losing, they gleefully jump on the next team's bandwagon and cheer for that team.

    These fans who voted for Peyton are not that way. And they are not 'bandwagoners'.

  8. Maybe Arizona. They seem to be very interested. Schefter broke it down to the Dolphins/Jets/Cardinals/Skins right now. Who knows IMO if there is a suprise team or two in the mix.

    Chiefs?

    Seattle is interested. Rich Cimini cited a league source and said that the Seahawks would come out with "checkbook blazing."

  9. That's because we're gonna be sick to our stomachs if we see Peyton back playing like his old self but in new colours...

    But on another note this video was pure gold.

    "The weather's nice, he can get a tan I mean I'll even give him my parking spot.

    Yes, absolutely! :)

    “Peyton can get a tan and everything. We have the perfect fit for him right here in Arizona. He can get his number, my parking pass, free donuts on Saturdays, I’ll make sure my guys clean his cleats real well, and even my barber can come to his house and cut his hair. All he has to do is show up to practice and play in the games.”
