Peyton is officially a Bronco now, so I do think this is more suited to the NFL General section.
I also read a while ago that Rivers was excited for the possibility of playing Peyton twice a year because he said games against Peyton are always exciting and you are always forced to play your best
Whatever you think is best is fine! I hated to post it originally there, and have many members miss out on seeing it, so I posted here and figured you guys would move it if necessary. If enough of his threads get moved to NFL General, more members will began skimming it and that problem will be solved.
I have always like Rivers. He seems like a nice, friendly guy. And as long as Peyton stomps Houston next year---I'll be pleased. If Denver goes 1-15 and beats Houston, that's good enough for me. Of course, a Super Bowl for Peyton would be nice as well...

I loved what Seymour said: "I thought having five kids gave me sleepless nights. Now I have to deal with Peyton again."
Moderators, feel to move this if necessary. (I know that you'd move it anyhow if you wanted too, that just gives me my control fix...)

I like what Richard Seymour said about the Manning signing. "I thought having five kids gave me sleepless nights. Now I have to deal with Peyton again."

"I'm a Colco!" would have been a more appropriate term for your poll choice, Mexicolt, if the Broncos are the second favorite team...

I agree with Andy246. I'd change Rounds 2 and 6 and you'll have a solid draft. Other than those two rounds, it looks pretty good to me!

Why would you play a 7 man front on passing downs? That's a good way to get killed considering that most teams bring three or four wide sets on 2nd or 3rd and long.
If you're simply talking about 4-3 or 3-4 based nickel packages, they tend to function virtually identically so it's a moot point.
Sorry, RGIII, I misspoke earlier and didn't include exactly all my thoughts. I understand how the nickel packages work, I'm talking about in fourth-quarter-last-second-for-the-victory drives when we would play a cover-two defense, whether 4-3, nickel or dime---with a four man front. In other words, in a strictly pass-rush situation when you need all four men up front getting pressure and Mathis and Freeney would be used as defensive ends.
If Pagano is planning on using a cover-two (not a 4-3 as I mistakenly said), then I would keep Freeney for those situations. Still, Freeney would cost a lot of money for simply situational football. I hope that cleared up my previous error, and again, I apologize. When I said 4-3, I meant to say four man front---whether nickel, dime or otherwise. Sorry!
And before anyone blasts me for my cover-two advocacy, the philosophy does work well in last minute situations when an offense must score and has almost no time. It is a good defensive scheme in certain situations---but certainly not for the whole game.

if you notice, the guys that have departed have injury histories. freeney, mathis, & wayne have had relatively healthy careeers
True, they have been injured recently, but for the most part, they had been healthy. And all of them could still contribute, but were let go because of cost. Freeney can still contribute but has a huge cost and doesn't necessarily fit into the scheme unless Pagano plans on playing a 4-3 in passing downs and a 3-4 in others. Which I'd love. I'd love to see Dwight retained, but I would be surprised.

Well, I think that keeping him on the payroll after dumping all those other guys would be odd.

How are the even remotely underrated? They are the best front office in football, this is news since when?
Can you quote the name of anyone in their Front Office other than the owner and coach? Not looking it up on the internet, quoting it from memory? They're underrated. And if underrated is not the best word, try unpublicized.

I really don't see him in GB.
I would be suprised. I am not even sure GB would have a lot of interest. They don't sign many FAs from other teams either.
Green Bay doesn't sign guys in a frenzy, but if there is a solid man available they would look into it. Remember the Woodson and Pickett signings?

Talking about our O-line I guess...now about Jeff, I think he could go anywhere and do well. He's just so good, even if he's old.
ProFootballFocus gave him a +14.2 rating last year.
I think he can still do it, but I don't know if the Packers could get him, honestly. Do they have the money? Not really. And does he really want to play if he's not in Indy? I don't think so. Who knows. It is interesting, though, that they are interested. It's about time someone was.

He did have a training camp, but it wasn't long. He needs to improve, and although his rookie season wasn't impressive, I saw potential in him and that's a good sign.
You knew what I meant, I think... He does need to improve, but like you said---There is potential. That is definitely a good sign. But how'd we get talking about him anyhow?
-
He had some other bad ones. He looked bad in the Pats game, and he looked bad in the 2nd Texans games. Overall, I good season, but not his best. I was happy with his performance.
He did get shoved back a few times in the NE game, but #75 is one big whopping man!!!

He signed a 2 year deal... Good signing by the 49ers, it gives them a better receiving core and someone to replace Morgan.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora
Mario Manningham ends up leaving STL w/o a deal. Heading to SF on a 2-year contract. #freeagency
Moss, Manningham, and Crabtree should make the 49ers Super Bowl good with Alex Smith tossing the football around. As long as the 49ers don't forget that their team wears a jersey with 21 on it.

He struggled mostly against some of the better pass rushers in the NFL. Perhaps the best example of that was the Ravens game but pro-bowl guys have a hard time stopping Suggs let alone a rookie. A lot of people who don't like Castonzo judged him mostly on that game though.
I'd do worse than struggle mightily against Suggs. One rush and I'd be riding on a little white job with rails and four wheels...

The Patriots have one of the most underrated Front Offices in football today.

Castonzo looked out of sorts and his footwork was terrible. He's strong as an ox and he'll get better in time, but I was not impressed with his rookie season. He needs to get better. Jeff Saturday was very good last year, but he wasn't as good as seasons past. I saw some inconsistency in the earlier games in the season like against the Texans and Browns, Rubin beat him quite a bit of times during that game.
Castonzo looked nervous to me every time I saw him. He was a good player for a rookie with no training camp, though, I thought.

Not to be rude at all, but those must have been the only games he got beat on, if there were only 11 pressures all season.

I'd say Reggie and Garcon were solid and Brown was late in the year. The problem was they were about it lol. Castonzo played pretty well for a rookie though. I do think Saturday got robbed of a pro-bowl trip last year though so I'd say he was better than solid. It's okay about the pro-bowl thing because it made up for the year before when he went and he really shouldn't have.
Reggie was good for playing with who he played with. It's a shame that Painter, whom he advocated for as starter, largely ignored him in his playing time.
-
Saturday could be a fill-in for them for a year or two and then head off into the sunset. A quick fix doesn't solve anything but the present, though, so do you think they may take a rookie this year in a later round for Saturday to tutor?
What kind of contract do you think is possible, Andy246? Or anyone for that matter...
They (Packers) are just under 6 million dollars under the cap, without rookies, if I am right, so it'd have to be a small contract.
UndecidedFrog, where are you when we need you!!!
-
He had one of the better years of his career last season. It just went unnoticed because of the trainwreck that was the rest of the team.
Right. He played very well last year and was about the only solid thing on the offense.
-
I love Saturday, but he is on the downside of his career. He hasn't been that good for the last two seasons and often gets overwhelmed. I think we should go younger at that position. He might be good to help the rebuilding line, but not if it means over paying him.
In 576 drop-backs (pass attempts) this year, Jeff gave up only 11 pressures. Pressures, not sacks. I know he is older, but that is pretty good!

in NFL General

Relieved. We'd never have heard the end of it. And he would have creamed Indy for sure. People would've then just disliked him even more ,and the last thing he wants is to be tarnished in the eyes of Indy's up and coming fans.
