  1. Why would we lose TY? Do any of you guys understand our cap situation? At this moment we have a projected $88M in cap space next season. That's only going to get larger with the new TV deal kicking in.

Worst comes to worse and we lose our tight-ends. Both of which are replaceable. We would not lose TY.

Yeah and the core of our offense are all FA next year.

    Luck

    Allen

    Fleener

    Costanzo

    TY

we can't afford all of them if we give Suh 16-18 per.

So even if we have 88 Mil.

Suh would be 16 so that drops it to 72

Luck at 18-20, so drop it to 54

Hilton at 9-11 so drop it now to 45

Costanzo 10-12 so drop it now to 35

Allen 5-8 so drop it to 30

Fleener 5-8 drop again to 25

Mathis will be gone, so we are banking all of our Pass rush on Newsome.

Toler will be FA, so either resign him or bring in someone else

We will need a Backup QB.

That doesn't count what we will be paying Freeman

That doesn't count us signing either Safety.

Chapman will be FA, so we won't have a true NT to rotate

That also doesn't account for a RG either

    or another receiver.

That is a lot to spread out $25 M on.

And that is a lot to bank on 1 player making a difference, that I just don't think he will.

  2. You don't pay the guy without having a plan to feature his talents.  Chuck and Manusky have coached enough football to put a plan together to feature him and allow him to succeed.

Still that might fill 1 defensive need, and we have 3. Why break the bank on 1 need and hope we can get some filler for the other 2 instead of trying to get 3 top level players with the amount we would be using on the 1 player.

I just don't see Suh as the player that would put us over the top, and he definitely is not the player that Watt is to make that much.

  3. Haynesworth had arguably the worst work ethic ever for a player with his level of talent. Look up what coaches and scouts had to say about him. Not even a fair comparison.

I don't understand how people are "afraid to break the bank". You all do realize that the Colts HAVE to spend up to a certain percentage of the money they have available right? Not to mention, there's only like 5 teams that have more money to spend than the Colts. When you have the money to spend, spend it!

Problem is if we sign Suh at the massive price he is going to command, we are going to miss out on McCourty and a solid Passrusher. We will have to end up signing Suh and then some mid-lower level players.

Where if we wait and try to pick up Ngata, if released, we could also sign McCourty and one of the top Pass Rushers.

I think Suh causes us too many problems down the road cap wise as opposed to picking up multiple players at not over the top contract amounts.

  4. suh has no history in a 3-4, this would be a huge mistake IMO. Seriously look back at Haynesworth. He was a 4-3 DT, who left for a HUGE deal and was placed a in 3-4 and disappeared into obscurity.

To this I say the money could be spent else where and probably make more of an impact. I could see if Suh had a history in a 3-4, but he has none. So why drop that much bank to "test" it?

  5. Just reading that Reggie Bush's status with the Lions is up in the air at this point. I think he would be a much better pick up than Gore. I know he has injury issues, but so does Bradshaw and people are wanting to sign him. you pick up Bush and then draft a RB I think you would be in solid shape.

  6. Here is what I have so far with Cuts and Street FAs. Some of my deals might be a little low, but I think they are close.

Sorry it looks so jank, not sure how to get it to show in table format.

  7. If I'm the Colts, I don't bring back Nicks or Wayne. They were both basically shut down by the Pats #4 Corner. We need to spend our money on a WR, hopefully one that is able to separate. My guess also is that Redding will retire.

I thought Freeman is a RFA, so we could just put the tender on him and not spend as much. Same thing with Shipley.

I would hold off on Luck's deal until next year, either his or Castanzo's, to save cap room for players.

I would also bring in a Vet RB, maybe other than Bradshaw, We need to bring in a RB that has shown they can play a full season. Because if we bring him back, we go into the season with Bradshaw/Herron/Ballard/Tipton/Rookie, not a lot of trust in the depth there.

  8. Colts don't have the personnel and intel to do so... Patriot's offense is a MUCH bigger challenge than the Broncos across the board

Wow thanks for the insight, but I will say that there are only two players on NE's offense that truly scare me this time around and that is Gronk and Brady. NE doesn't have the WRs I think are needed to really exploit us this time around. Especially if Stork is out.

So if we can find a way to limit Gronk, I don't have much of a worry about the rest of the WR. They don't have the top flight guy that would normally give Toler fits, and Vontae is a top 5 CB so I have faith in him to shut down anyone that lines up accross from him.

Add in that we will have Arthur Jones back, I really don't fear the running game like earlier in the year. You know since those yards were put up against DL consisting of a guy that has been inactive the past two weeks.

  9. Art has been doing a great job of taking up blockers, which frees up the rest of the guys to make tackles. Also on the PFF thing, when I hear guys like Venturi say that PFF is wrong, I usually take that into consideration and just ignore their grades.

It's fun to read, but when I hear a guy that ACTUALLY coached tell me that guys like Toler/Holmes/Jones/Landry are playing well. I'll take their word for it over a bunch of number nerds that don't actually work in the business.

  10. I know they are just PFF scores, but if you look at Louis it makes sense, I saw him doing more chasing of his guy in the backfield than actually moving them backwards. I can remember atleast on 75% of the running plays that failed, I would see Louis either laying down or spun around. I would almost garauntee when we get Thornton and Mewhort back our running game will pick back up and actually be even better with Harrison.

One thing that I really noticed with Harrison was his ability to get to the second level and make blocks that Shipley just cannot do, due to physical inability. I think that will really start to translate once the Starting G's are back.

  11. I expect the Colts to come unstuck.

It's a short week and if Fitzpatrick can play average, Houston have the weapons to hurt a Colts defense that has been flattered by playing the Titans and Jags.

Indy will struggle to get a running game going, I'm sure Trent will average under 3 yards per carry and will probably throw a fumble or two in there for good measure. The Colts were fairly horrible on offense against the Ravens and I don't see them doing anything about it during a short week.

The other opponents also include Philly, Denver, and Baltimore. Who all 3 have better weapons than Houston on Offense, yet we pretty well shut them down. The only player on that offense that worries me is Foster. Other than him we have nothing to worry about. Our CBs have been tops in the league. Vontae has been shutting everyone down, and Toler has been playing much better than anyone expected.

Our running game has been way better than in years past, so you can "hope" for Trent to only get 3ypc, but even if he does I would put it on Bradshaw to get 6ypc. And do you really have the players to cover ALL of our weapons?

  12. I found this interesting on Stampede Blue, not sure if it has been posted yet.

On a serious note, I'm not sure the leaders of the team want Landry back in the locker room. I mentioned in my controversial column this summer, Landry seemed more like a guy who was all about the money and didn't care about the team. That he wasn't about "Building the Monster" of the Colts and more about "Building the Monster" that is himself. My sentiments seemed confirmed when beloved veteran Reggie Wayne made the harshest comments I've ever heard Reggie say about a teammate. For those that haven't seen it Wayne said (when on with Jake Query and Derek Schultz on 1260 in Indianapolis Monday night), "[Landry] is kind of a guy that sits by himself. We're not gonna judge. I'll just keep a question mark on my face." So not only was Landry inept on the field, he was alienating himself off the field and in the locker room. That's not good for a locker room culture, one of the team's highest paid players setting a terrible example. I doubt Wayne is the only one feeling that way either. But that's just my thought on it.

To me that sounds like more of an issue than just working out on his own in the offseason.
