Let’s try to remember everyone: this is a Bengals team with legit Super Bowl aspirations, with several key players who know this is most likely their final season together.
We’re not there yet.
I agree.
Bengals are one of the top 2 teams in the AFC only behind the Chiefs.
Colts are trying to break in to the top 7.
This practice is a good measuring stick for the Colts and it says AR has a way to go to measure up to Burrow

Ballard will only be fired if and only if it's determined that AR is a bust.
The Colts need this season to evaluate what AR is.
This is a mulligan season for Ballard. He wants to evaluate AR and the secondary. That's why he didn't sign a FS and will not this season.
Even if Colts miss playoffs this season, Ballard will stay but his seat will get hot.
Nothing will happen with Ballard until end of 2025.
But that is still plenty of time for AR to show progress.
If playoffs are missed again in 2025 I think then he'll be let go.
So Ballard has 2 more years at least.
Not saying I agree with it but this how I am reading the situation

On some of these reports I think the media is full of it. Talking about people getting burnt and then later on mentioning there was no pass rush. It was 7 on 7 where the QB can just sit there all day and take his time to throw. Other stuff where fine details are left out.
I think fans are concerned with the way the secondary was torched for 200 yards by Nico of the Texans in a critical game which would have gotten us into the playoffs.
I don't think anyone takes pre-season practice sessions seriously.
On a different note, the QBs and WR's in this division have gotten alot stronger.
Houston has added Diggs, Metchie, and Tank Dell
Jax has added Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis
Of course Indy has a healthy AR and added AD
What will Levis be remains an unknown but they added Ridley who now pairs with Hopkins.
Very quickly the AFC South has become a very strong passing division so the secondary is a concern.

I am not even mad. It’s more sad that I allow myself to get excited for a season and nothing changes.
I'm excited about AR being healthy and having a good season and how the new pieces on offense will look. I look forward to watching AR run the offense
Granted our secondary is going to get torched by Nico, Stroud, Calvin Ridley and Lawrence but I'm trying not to think about that too much

Torn meniscus. He will have surgery. 😳
Terribly sorry.
He looked really good in the preseason game.
Hopefully he comes back in 8 weeks and the Vikes go on a run

Simmons has a scheduled visit with the Falcons in the next few days. They have the lowest cap space in the league right now at $3.5m. Watch him sign there.
As Colts fans we must learn to trust the process....

@ADnum1 Has Stetson Bennett played this whole game? I know you are a big fan of his.
Something strange happened.
He looked completely out of sorts and threw 4 interceptions.
The long layoff clearly hurt him.
But surprisingly he led the game winning drive at the end of the game with only 11 seconds left.
It was quite shocking

Anybody watch CJ Stroud on the second drive take it to the house with a beautiful pass to Tank Dell against Steeler first lineup? He was done after that TD. You should watch their confidence and command he had with his WR on the sideline and their coaches.
Clearly Stroud is in complete command of that offense
AR is struggling to throw a simple pass over the middle to Gransen that any 2nd or 3rd string QB could easily hit.
AR has alot of catching up to do to Stroud
I'm very sorry

He caught the 75 yard TD pass to start the game that was the balk of it.
That's good to know that we limited Nico to a 125 yards for the rest of the game !

Not to mention the last time we saw the secondary play, outside of Blackmon, was also against CJ Stroud in Week 18. And Nico Collins nearly went for 200 yards.200 yards ?
Did our pass defense even show up for the game ?

He said "I mean, we're playing football". He said they are friends yes, but he said we are there to play football at the end of the day. He doubled down on his actions and showed no remorse. It was a cold hearted response and he admitted no wrongdoing.
I want Simmons. No other S is close to him in FA. He has shown interest in signing as we've seen with the Saints. There is no reason not to get him with our remaining cap available. I don't trust Ballard to get some random S. He hasn't earned that right IMO. His track record with the secondary sucks. Might as well pick a name out of a hat if you don't sign Simmons.
From the latest depth chart Cross is the starting FS.
Colts are so thin at safety no way will Cross be cut

Last year we had the 17th ranked defense in the league against the pass (I thought it was worse)
That is strange.
From @AKB stats Colts were ranked 29th -31st in every passing defense category.
Where did you get 17th from ?

how could you guys not be mad at cross? he's so nonchalant like he did nothing wrong.
it doesn't matter if downs is gonna get hit all season, you don't slam your slot receiver to the ground on a 3 yard out route in practice.
Just goes to show how sorely we lack leadership at that position. Cross looked like teenager in trouble during that interview. Honestly not encouraging at all.
Cross has a high RAS score but a 2 cent brain.
Perhaps this could be a teachable moment for Ballard

He was definitely in someone's office having a not pleasant conversation after practice.
Downs gears down and up really quickly, which is where he's dangerous. Gould is faster though. His 4.3 speed is apparent and you can see it on the field. He's not as technically advanced or nuanced of a route runner as Downs, but I'd hardly consider him a "second rate Downs".
I don't think Colts have a choice.
Give the reps to Gould. Or Pierce can play from the slot some.

It’s all cerebral. They’ve touted his elite athleticism from day 1. His rookie year it was all about lack of confidence, thinking too much and not playing fast enough. Then it was lack of communication and inconsistency. Communication has been the coaching staff’s biggest rub this offseason. How is it year 3 and the guy who should be developing is not out there communicating and flying around making enough instinct plays to separate himself? Then he does play fast and without thinking much and hurts his own teammate. I don’t get it. There is talent there, undoubtedly. But the best safeties in the league are some of the smarter players in the league. One of my favorite safeties of all time is now a successful general manager. You have to be able to play fast, smart, communicate, and make plays. It feels like he has maybe 2 of the 4 traits…Yes, he had a very high RAS score

Ballard has about a month to address the safety position. Games that count don’t happen until roughly mid-September. There’s still lots of time.
I disagree with this slightly.
A month from now puts us in Sept.
Then I think it will take another month to learn Gus's system.
That would put us into early Oct before the new safety is ready to play.

Absolutely not the case. A lot of good players are let go on cut downs
This is true. Alot of good players are cut because their contracts are too big or in other words they become "cap casualties".
The team has cap issues and takes the cap hit and just wants to get younger and cheaper at that postion.

I'm not sure I understand the resistance to Bowers from this board.
Bowers was a monster in college. He was the UGA offense. A hybrid TE/WR who is 6'5 240 and runs a 4.4. He's a freak of nature. He catches everything in his zip code with incredible hands and understands how to get open. Its clear to me Ballard wanted Bowers. He needed a TE desperately to help out his young QB coming off an injury and we know Ballard drafts based off need.
Ballard getting Bowers at 6 would have been the right decision and I would have supported it.
If Bowers became the next Travis Kelsey would he be worth it ? Of course he would.
And keep in mind Nabors had Brian Thomas on the other side as well so it will be interesting to see how Nabors fares being the guy.
Bowers was the whole Georgia offense and the Number 1 option there.

I told you all it was Bowers.
TE is probably a bigger need than WR with Pitt, Pierce and Downs.
But don't get me wrong, I'm happy with AD and Latu

I don't think 6 would be high enough to get MHJ which was Ballards first choice I believe. I think Irsay asked for him as well.
So most likely for Bowers who was projected to go as high as 5.

Taylor isn't considered a top 10 back according to madden. he's rated 87
Maybe with the holdout and injuries last season he isn't getting alot of attention

Would love to see AR running the ball and then sliding or running out of bounds before contact

I look at this as ARs rookie season.
If I see good progress throughout the season I'll be happy even if we don't make the playoffs
