    Stats farther below

I'll update injuries for both teams later in the week.

    Line: NO -9.5

    O/U: 46

Quick Summary - Saints O vs Colts D

Passing - Brees is #6 in QBR, and 9th in yards per game. Thomas is the #1 WR in the league in YPG. Kamara is the 4th best RB in YPG. Cook is a top 10 TE. Our pass D has been very soft in play calling and performance of late. Brees has the lowest time to throw in the NFL, and rarely gets sacked or tosses INTs. I'll be surprised if our 17th ranked sack D and 22nd ranked QB pressure D does much to challenge Brees unless Eberflus dials up something very different than what we've seen most of the year.

Rushing -  Murray and Kamara are a nice 1-2 punch, especially with Kamara's impact in the passing game. While I think we'll limit traditional running, I can see them having success on the edge.

Injury impact - Updated later in the week

Quick Summary - Saints D vs Colts O

Passing - Brissett is 21st in QBR and 28th in yards per game. While the Saints haven't been great vs the pass, they do have top 5 success in sacks and pressures. Brissett's bottom 5 time to throw will likely equate to trouble for us unless he can get the ball out quicker. I'd hope that Reich is scheming to help JB in this space. I can see early success in scripted plays going quick and short, but as the game progresses, JB could be in trouble.

Rushing - Mack is the 7th best RB in YPG, but the Saints are top 5 in rush D. I think we do better than last week, but don't see a ton of success. Hoping we see more man blocking schemes / playing calling for the OL. I just don't see a zone rushing attack having a lot of success. Let the big uglies be road graders and let the RBs hit the hole quickly.

Injury Impact - Updated later in the week

The Bottom Line - Our Ds are very similar in yards allowed in both phases, except NO has a lot more success getting to the QB. Their DB play is mediocre at best though. Our Os are very different. They have a prolific QB, a #1 WR, and a RB that can do damage in both phases. Our O is very limited, and the passing game won't do much unless we can get the ball out quick. I can see a lot of sacks for JB and potentially turnovers if the the play calling is not spot on, or if JB doesn't execute quickly and accurately. Tough task going on the road vs a team in the hunt for a buy, or home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

    Prediction - Painful. NO 34 INDY 13

Two more drafts, huh? Green Bay missed the playoffs last year, had 2 first round draft picks(Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage) who they have gotten sub par contributions based on draft position. They did sign Smith from the ravens, and change their coach. But the packers roster at the end of last season was nowhere near this Colt roster. Another team I'll throw out there that missed the playoffs last year and is poised for a playoff appearance this year is that God awful steeler team. Wow, that is borderline joke. Talk about bad drafting, take a look at their recievers, you'll see Dion Cain. Do we need to talk qb? Undrafted rookie free agent from d3 Samford. The Colts definitely don't need 2 more drafts to contend for the sb!

drafts wont fix us next season we need proven talent

You're right JB didn't lose this game but people are burying him regardless.  That's what happens in forums.   Today they focus on a couple of missed throws as the primary reason.  I actually saw him hit on a number of deep throws as well as leading receivers quite nicely too.   All of this with street FA receivers for the most part.  We are really spoiled here with QB play.  The truth of the matter is we will probably not have an all pro QB here for quite some time let alone a MVP candidate every year.  I don't think JB has played himself out of the starting job by any means.  Ballard knows his plans for the offense fell apart this year.  My bet is he will readdress it again next year.   Will he draft a developmental guy for the future?  Most likely, after all he did lose his starting QB at the start of the season.  But who is going to be the starter next year?  I think JB is so let's hope we have better luck surrounding him with a few more playmakers that can help make him and the Colts succeed.  I think we can agree we all want that.

    good post

I'll put it this way...if it weren't for Ballard's drafts and FA signings, we'd be 2-11, most likely.

Lots of reasons we're 6-7, but primarily, it's because Ballard drafted and built this roster with Andrew Luck as the QB.  Luck with healthy WRs (Hilton, Funchess, Campbell, Pascal, etc.) and our TEs, plus the running game and we'd be 11-2, most likely.  The missed kicks by AV wouldn't have cost us close games, because we would have had bigger leads.

Losing Luck, the numerous serious injures and JB not having weapons at the skill positions has contributed to the 6-7 record.

Now, I am disappointed in our defense...yes, there have been injuries, but nothing close to what we've had on the offensive side of the ball.  I expected our defense to be much better this year.

Then, there's the kicking game, but we all know the problem with that without going into detail.

Get some proven veteran offensive skill players for JB to work with next season, and add that to the running game and we win more games and put more points on the board.

I do feel that a QB will be drafted and prepared to take over in 2021.  Hopefully we sign some veterans on both sides to help these young guys.  The foundation is there, now it's time to build with quality, proven players.

Also disappointed in our OL play and I have no thoughts on way they have regressed.

i agree 100 percent, great post

him playing far off is part of the play call.

where he starts the play is dictated by scheme.

I think you need to lay some blame at Eberflus's feet here.

i said in another post it could be coaching making him look bad, but he is to far off

  6. 10 minutes ago, EastStreet said:

So one bad game makes him below average. I'd say the soft coverage calls were as much at fault.

he has been late to help the corners all season

  7. 6 minutes ago, EastStreet said:

Bucs were throwing to gaps in the zone all day, something Winston is known for doing. And the zone called was deep.

spot on the deep saftey should have the coverage, he was late all day, he was playing to far off

LOL... He may not be a pro bowler, but he's well above average. He's had a rating of 75-80 most of the year. He's only been targeted 12 times, and only given up like 8 receptions. And some of those receptions could be argued blown coverage by others.

bucs threw in his direction all day sunday , maybe didnt go in stats as a target because he was lost in space to far from the receiver, imo ballard will upgrade this position in the draft, stats can be very misleading

in the last game he played way off and blew coverage and looked lost

You must think that every team is full of pro bowlers. Aside from the passing game, our units are all above average. It's a balancing act. There's only so many early draft slots a team gets.

WR - we signed Funch to upgrade X, and drafted Campbell to upgrade slot/Z.

DT - this is an area I wished we would have addressed last year instead of trading back. That said, we've still done very good against the run.

Edge - We did sign Houston and draft Banogu.

Corner - We just gave Moore a nice contract, and drafted Ya-Sin early. Desire was expected to be better.

In short, Ballard has made substantial attempts to upgrade each position you list except DT, which I agree he should have did more.

If you're big on upgrading the most deficient position, then QB would #1 for the next draft, as we took the biggest step back in terms of unit performance there without a doubt.

i think our fs position could be upgraded, hooker is below average

The ones that are a sure thing are TY, Parris, and pascal. I am changing my mind and don’t think funchess will be back. We draft a guy and Johnson might earn a spot.

we didnt have room for him before, now we have room to spare

Luck screwed us yet people defend him

i dont, he took the money to entertain us and then quit and let his team mates and fans down, give the money back luck. and worse he did it after draft time. like paying to go to a concert and the singer quits in front of the crowd, but keeps the money

What a disappointing season... I expected so much from him... Let's hope he has a better and more healthy second season.

i dont expect much from new draft picks but a few turn out to play in the nfl but it usually takes a while

  14. hate to see him get hurt again and again and again some players bodies are not made to take the pounding in the nfl.

In the future, maybe Campbell can in a way become your Percy Harvin-type receiver, but we need a real, polished receiver.

yes we do need a proven talent, project draft picks take a long time to develop if at all

Zone coverage is great in certain circumstances.  The issue I had yesterday, when the Colts ran man coverage with the two CBs and nickle but the LBers and safeties played zone the D did well. but it seemed like when they blitzed, they made two mistakes, they ran zone coverage exclusively behind the blitz and they did not see to account for the hole in the zone from the blitzing player, meaning it seemed like the zones were set up as if they still had the extra guy back there... but they didn't he was blitzing.

The other thing I don't like about Flus' zones is he seems to tell the guys to keep moving the zones downfield as the play gets extended.  I can understand the reasoning for that but in the real world what happens is the QB scrambles to extend the play, the Colts zones keep moving down field, the QB dumps it off to a RB or TE and the nearest colts defender is 10-12 yards down field, that is going to be a win for the offense every time.

i was blaming hooker for playing too soft maybe it was the coach

  16. texans traded draft picks to get what they needed to make a run, titans went and got a qb to make a run, ballard signed some cheap free agents and undrafted guys, we needed wr elite talent, he didnt get any for us so we didnt make a run
