I had tears reading that. That writer put a great human element on the story. Like I have been saying give him a actual off season as the starter and he might surprise everyone. When you read stories like that it does make you wonder if they will just continue to build around him. Injuries have been off the charts on offense.

these guys make millions playing a kids game, if he felt bad give the money back

Quick:  Name me the last time any NFL team actually successfully did this.  I know of trades for prospects, trades for placeholders a la Tyrod Taylor, and trades for older players on the hope that they still had something in the tank, but proven QBs are the literal crown jewels of a franchise.  If you can't grow your own, you aren't getting one.

This is why we're focused on the run game now.  Because we know we have issues at QB and need to find ways to win anyway.

I think the last time someone traded a franchise QB in his prime is still Drew Bledsoe after Tom Brady supplanted him, though I could be mistaken.  Generally speaking these guys only move markets due to FA.

not a trade but denver won it all with peyton,  and look at the niners qb this year

I'm not sure about the answer to the question.

But it seems to me that as every year passes by, the draft is becoming more and more interesting /important to the fans. It almost seems like everything leads up to the draft, (the pinnacle of the football year) and then you play the games just to see evaluate your draft.

The games are now just a bi-product of the NFL draft.

and a lot of draft picks become busts

It wasn't just Kingsbury drafting Murray. Steve Keim was the GM When they drafted Rosen and Murray.

Coaches (good ones) will adapt to their players particularly the starting QB. The Cardinals drafted Murray and traded Rosen because they didn't believe Rosen was the guy to lead them at QB.

Even if Kingsbury did demand drafting Murray and trading Rosen as a condition of accepting the job the Cardinals agreed to it. If Keim really believed in Rosen I think he would have hired a different Head Coach if Kingsbury really demanded a QB who fit his system.

Same with Dolphins...if Rosen was better than Fitzpatrick he would play over him.

If the Colts want to give up a late round pick and see what happens fine. But I think hopes that Rosen could be a team's answer at QB smells of desperation.

His first two years in the league have been far from ideal but if he was a franchise caliber QB two NFL teams would not dump him so easily. If he was this type of QB he would rise above this to some degree.

It's not like we are talking about playing vs sitting him...it's whether or not the teams have confidence in him as their guy in the future. The Cardinals said no after just one year and the Dolphins don't appear committed to him and they don't have a long-term alternative.

we are desperate at qb, luck quit us

seriously though, I don’t have the All 22.  Nor do we know the scheme.

I think he meant our Safeties draft picks have been playing while they’re high.

That does explain a lot.  Good observation.

We have TWO high draft picks at safety?

    Hooker in the first.

Geathers in the 4th.    Pick 109.

Willis in the 4th.    Pick 109.

    Am I missing someone?

no my mistake, i thought geathers was drafted higher, regardless we need impact talent at safety and we dont have it on the roster

I don't like picking on players but Milligan has been as bad as Wilcox was last year. That's why we need another db drafted high this year, but we need dt first.

willis has outplayed our 2 high pick safeties

Neither is all of the other stuff that doesn't get posted or bolded.

We can move on from JB.  I don't care.  I have no opinion I'm heavily invested in.

What's curious is not sure why JB has become the the whpping boy for everything that is wrong with the team.  Its like chickens pecking the one sick one because that's what every other chicken is doing.

Maybe blaming JB for everything.....even TB scoring 31 point despite Winston's 3 picks....is simply easier than to entertain the notion that Ballard sucks.  LOL.

The constant pecking must be comforting.

ballard has put a team on the field filled with below average talent everywhere, i only see 3 players with above average talent, we have 2 more whose skills are declining due to age. most of our starters could not start for the texans or titans

Seriously? The guy is a ball hawk. The sad part about it that our Corners are not playing well. It all starts with the pass rush and that need to be fixed in the offseason

he may have been a ball hawk in college, just not showing it in the pros

Thankfully Irsay thinks long-term.  Unlike many of us who want things yesterday.

Some mistakes were made AND this roster was dealt some serious blows this year.  Roster blows to a VERY young team.
Except for two games, we rode the knife’s edge between winning and losing every game.  That catches up with you.

Bit to start thinking, as some are, of head coaching and gm changes, is just crazy.  Crazy.

when the team is regressing under their methods, fans will think get new people with different methods

You don't need a scheme change to get more aggressive, play more man, if that's what you want to do.

The secondary has been terrible recently, but the truth is vs. a QB like Brees, you're probably not going to shut him down.  You have to do what the 49ers did the previous week and outscore them.  You have to trade scores.  How do you do that with Brissett?  You can't.  You cannot compete at the highest level with a QB like Brissett.

    ballard likes him

Hooker looks like a lost rookie in zone.

QB, DT, DT, DE, CB, WR are all huge needs.
If CB can get 2 of these to come here in FA for the big bucks i expect him to go there. Irsay's franchise is floundering and needs talent.

Advise our last QB nicely that Brissett is gone and we are going to trade/cut TY if he doesn't come back.

    agree 100 percent, great post

Any position outside of Left Guard, Center and WLB

    Take your pick.

Probably what you get for refusing to spend the market price for top free agents and picking high draft picks in secondary positions for 5 years.

i only see nelson and leonard and moore as above average any other players are possible upgrades. ballards method of filling a whole roster is not working

he has filled the roster with below average talent

Also add free safety to the list. You guys that told me Hooker was overrated were right.

    hooker is below average

I was just using those two teams as examples of teams who missed the playoffs last season and can easily make the playoffs this year. I was referencing the post that said we are at least 2 drafts away from contending and I wholeheartedly disagree with that premise. Add dt, db and og, and ofcourse better qb and we are right there. Maybe Ballard will dip into the cap space this next offseason.

    dont count on it

You should just come out and curse the ground Luck walks on. At least that would seem genuine.

i somewhat feel the same way, luck took the big money, he should have felt an obligation not to quit his job that he was very well paid for at the beginning of a season, past the draft, and leave his teammates and fans hanging. in my opinion he should have quit at the end of the last season to give us a chance to fill his position. he gave no consideration to his teammates or the fans who made him rich, or regard to the whole colts franchise . indy may lose its fan support and team because of the timing of him quitting his lucrative job. luck was a disgrace to the fans who paid him and his teammates by the timing of him quitting his job.

I don't know if this topic should be merged with another but it's something I need to get off my chest.  I've been contemplating where everything went off track for us.  And I keep coming back to the Steelers game & JB's injury.  But the more and more I think about it, I think Frank's actions in that game & the following week have cost us this season.

I came to this conclusion when I saw Justin Fields take a very similar shot to his knee in the OSU vs UM game.  OSU's coach put Fields back into the game.  The Buckeyes stabilized & Fields led them to victory that day & since to the playoffs.  I bring this up because it got me thinking about how our coach handled a similar situation.  JB came out & Hoyer threw a TD to Doyle (who was so wide open that JB could have made that throw but Hoyer did make some other good throws so I'm not disparaging his play that day) and Frank never looked back.

They showed him on the sideline and he could truly care less how his starting QB was doing...  It was as if he had been waiting for the moment where he could yank JB & put in a QB that he preferred.  How he handled the next week was more proof.  JB apparently took all the reps because he was healthy enough to play and as the starter wanted to.  But Frank didn't truly want him as the QB. So what does he do? He starts Hoyer, supposedly with minimal practice reps, because he felt that even with minimal reps, Hoyer was better than JB.

Unfortunately, it blew up in his and all Colts fans' faces when Hoyer laid an egg.  When Frank pulled JB for BH our season spiraled down the drain.  I believe that JB beats Pittsburgh and Miami and our season is looking very different despite the kicking woes & injuries & JB's limitations.  We were 5-2 at the time.  You don't make a boneheaded change like that.  You dance with the one that you brought...  The guy that lead us to 5-2 & 2nd in the AFC...

So I've reached the conclusion that Frank doesn't truly want JB as his QB.  And in that case we must move on to another QB next season.  I defended JB because the guy won and his teammates loved him.  But his limitations have worn on me as things have spiraled down the drain.  But he isn't alone in getting the blame.  I'm putting a lot of it on Frank & his decision to not trust his QB that got him to 5-2.

So we'll get a QB in here that he prefers next year but he won't be getting any more free passes from me.  He better win with whomever it is because I just watched him sabotage this season when the AFC was open for the taking.  If Luck said he wanted to come back in the Steelers game would Frank have ignored him & kept JB or whomever was the backup in the game?  Not a chance.  Would he have let Luck take all the reps the following week and then went with the backup?  Not a chance.  He wanted JB out and leapt at the opportunity when it was there.  Unfortunately, all he did was sink our season...

    interesting post
