    Tell him.

We could've signed these guys yesterday Chris.

We need to be talking to players from other teams today.

I know we are, just clowning, but seriously, we could of done this stuff yesterday.

Good to be back to hitting show Chloe post quickly to see if it's news

    Eight Years

THIS is the year that Ballard will get THAT FA......

    7 years.......... SAME SAME

Why do I think he will actually do more than build the bottom of the roster with FA?

    :(

Ballard is a smart guy.  He knows he’s under a lot of pressure to upgrade the roster after last year.  He’s confident he has his quarterback now.  He knows his job is on the line.  So I think we can expect some exciting moves.  Maybe a splash move no one will see coming.  I think he has to upgrade the secondary big time.  FS for sure.  McKinney would be ideal because he’s so young.  He will be here a long time.  Kendall Fuller is a highly rated corner in zone coverage.  A match that would be perfect for Gus and the Colts.  Fuller won’t break the bank but would be a huge upgrade.  I think the big signing in FA will most likely be on the defensive side.  Funny thing is we extended Zaire today.  A defensive player.  I think that’s where the primary focus is now.  Can’t wait for FA to start.

Fuller would be a perfect fit here as he is a zone CB

CB in FA would be my third choice after FS and DE

My fear is that getting Ballard to take a FA chance on DE, FS, AND CB

Might be too much to ask......

Just read an article on SI with 10 predictions for FA.  One of the predictions concerns the Colts.  The think we will be active and the DL will be a target.  They think we are looking for an upgrade over Grover.  But they also predicted we won’t make a splash.  So if their right that probably eliminates Wilkins.

If you look at Ballard’s history, he has never gone for the big FA

I may be in a minority here but if we don’t improve year over year, there is a decent chance that Ballard gets fired.   If we are near last in defense again our DC will probably be fired.

If I am CB, I am using FA a bit more than normal this year……. (Maybe a lot more)

If I am our DC, I am standing on the table for some defensive playmakers that can make THIS defense work

IMHO, that means a stud pass rushing DL and a playmaking FS

An awesome  press CB would be wasted in THIS defense.

Because…… we play boring ZONE….  Which works if you have a pass rush.

We can add some of these big Zone CBs in round 2-3

On offense, if everyone is healthy we only need a dynamic WR, where at 15, (or later)

we will have some WRs to choose from

Asking a rookie to be a star, year 1 at DE and FS is a risk….. that’s why IMHO

we should tap the FA market for these two roles.

Rookie WRs can make a difference year 1

Miami DT Christian Wilkins is a FA.  Just read an article on BR saying when all of the JT drama was going on last year the Colts did have conversations with Miami about trading Taylor for Wilkins.  It never happened of course but if Wilkins makes it to FA the Colts might pursue him as a replacement for Grover.  He’s only 28 so if there was interest before it makes sense that the interest could still be there.

Is he big enough to play 1 tech?

If so, I’d would grab Wilkins, but I think he plays 3 and 5 tech today

I’m going to start pulling guys from this list periodically and putting why I think they’re fits. Basically a prospect deep dive. May do 1-2 a day

Let’s start with Cam Hart, CB from Notre Dame. First let’s look at his measureables

First thing you’ll notice is his incredible length:

6’3” with 33” arms. And at over 200 lbs, he’s built similarly to JuJu Brents, although JuJu was a lot quicker (better 3-cone and shuttle) and was a 9.99 RAS.

Hart was both a Senior Bowl participant (5th year senior) and a team captain, which are two Ballard signatures.

Also in our current scheme, it’s important for corners to be able to tackle. He’s good at that too.

Also as a bigger corner, he actually handles speed really well

Also has really smooth hips for a bigger corner

Only knocks on him are ball production as he only had 2 INTs in 5 years at Notre Dame. But as you can see in the Tweet above he had 3 * this past season. Another little plus with him is he actually did the best in coverage against Marvin Harrison out of almost any corner. Held him to 3 catches for 32 yards.

Also during his combine interview you could tell that he has great character. Humble and chill, not flashy at all.

    Total Boxes Checked:

    -Elite RAS score

    -Long arms

    -Senior Bowl participant

    -Team Captain

    -Tackles well

    -No character issues

Only unchecked box is ball production. Overall I’d say he’s probably one of the top 5 best Ballard fits in the draft. I’d put money on him being a pick for the Colts, somewhere between rounds 2-3.

Does he last until round 3?

He would be a great pickup

Watching Edgerrin Cooper, I don’t know if there is a more Ballard-y type player in the draft. Long, athletic, great closing speed, I just get the feeling if Cooper is there at 46, he’ll be at the top of the remaining players on Ballard’s big board.

I like him as well as he can cover and can blitz

Our LBs aren’t great underneath against the pass

We are desperate for a shutdown corner. It totally changes how you can mix your coverages to Surprise the QB.

    Respectfully…

    Not wishing to offend

If we actually played a man to man defense I would be with you 100%

On our very boring, but safe defense…… the FS AND DL are much bigger factors than getting the high end press corner

If we do draft or obtain a true press corner, then I would actually be happy, because it would mean they would actually MIX things up more with blitzes

My bet is that he stays with the safe 4-3 zone

    but…. What do I know?

  8. Not holding my breath………

I hope they trade back 3-4 spots and get another late 2nd or 3rd and draft AD Mitchell

    Very explosive

And we can get other needed positions

or stay at 15 and take the best DE , or Brian Thomas

  9. 34 minutes ago, Zoltan said:

At this point no way. He’s only started 9 games the last two years and has a 36 million cap hit. I would say a 4/5th rounder, just because since he has played so little there’s a chance he doesn’t return to form and it’s a high risk move because he’s got a cap hit of a top 10 QB. Honestly he seems untradeable to me.

I wouldnt touch THAT high cap either, and it would have to be addressed as part of a trade which other teams seem to do.

We need a DE......  First choice are D Hunter or Huff

But if that doesnt happen......  I would try to work a reasonable deal for Bosa

Every time I watch a game I find at least one or two whiffs.  I don't think he's decent.  But that's just my opinion.

I have no idea what they will do with MAC

I was putting him in the cut category in my mock drafts.

CB was giving glowing thoughts on “MOE” in the  offseason

My guess is as good as yours

If Bowers is there at #15 I would hesitate to pick him up.

To me the question is who brings the most  “Explosive” element to this offense

Think separation. Think take the top off the defense.

Separation opens up needed running lanes.  Separation gives more room for underneath passing.

    The question is

Bowers or Brian Thomas (AD Mitchell)?

IMHO these two WRs would give more separation

would love Bowers if they pick him, but for this offense…..

…..to match our strong armed QB

    We need that burner WR

One thing about both players vs Bama.

Thomas should of had two more TDs that season from that game alone. It was a Alec Pierce type game. He wasn't looked at when he was open. One was a crosser. He completely beat his cb and the lb. The second one was the exact route Piece ran against the Texans early in the season. Split the safeties and his cb was way behind him.

For Mitchell, this is actually most games, I want to see him use that 4.3 speed. Listening to locked on colts yesterday (Mondays episode) and during an interview he said he only ran his routes at 70%. Makes sense to because you don't see 4.3 speed on tape. Might be why his routes, cuts, and fakes are so smooth. Dude never slows down (or went full speed) during his routes and he was beating people that way.

I'm warming up to BTJ the more I look into it (practically forcing myself to see it). I think Coach Wayne can make him into something decent. Mitchell is still who I want.

I would be happy with either

I would LOVE to no longer see 8 man box defense against our offense

A dragster WR that can catch is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for this offense

  13. "We need to be more explosive"

    Ballard quote

IMHO that means a field stretching WR

We can get that in round 1 or 2

I see playmaking FS, Stud DE, dynamic WR s as a MUCH, MUCH, bigger needs than a CB or TE in round 1

My hope is that we grab a DE in FA (prolly not gonna happen)

My hope is that we come out of round 1 with Brian Thomas or AD Mitchell

My hope is that we get one of the FS in draft, or in FA

I watched both players vs Alabama this year.

Brian Thomas had a so so game, he was MOSTLY shutdown by the Alabama DBs

Mitchell was many times uncoverable and made the Alabama CBs that will be first round

    CBs look stuck in glue

Bowers is great to think about, but it looks like Ogletree will be playing this year, not as good as Bowers, but

there was a chemistry between AR and he, early on
