  1. I know there are plenty of people who have been in favor of Jeff Fisher becoming the next Head Coach. Can I ask what that is based on? Looking at Fishers overall record with the Oilers/Titans, he was barely over a .500 as far as winning. So what is it about him that you feel would make him such a good fit? What would make him a better fit then say a guy like Brian Billick, who has about the same winning percentage, but he never had a QB in Baltimore.

  2. Based on what Polian has done in the past, I would expect him to bring in a very experienced HC with NFL experience. I actually would see something like Brian Billick as Steve Spagnoulo as the DC.

If they get someone who hasn't been a HC, I would go for Mike Zimmer. As we pointed out, players love the guy and he gets good results with average talent. Great sign!!

I think the wildcard is Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. Polian has always been a big fan, and Kirk does great things with very mediocre talent. He did well in Dallas too.

What I do wonder, also, is if Chris Polian is picking the next head coach, does he go for a more youthful HC.

The guys I would put I don't want to see is Greg Williams or Jeff Fisher.

  3. I think if Polian(s) believe Luck is as good as what people say, he will be picked and we will keep both of them. Makes sense to me. No player is indestructable. If we trade the pick and by some small chance Manning gets hurt, who plays then? Painter??? Same thing if we cut Manning and draft Luck. What happens if Luck gets hurt? Painter is back in?

I know Luck talked to Manning last year about whether he should come back or not. I hope they are on good terms. Luck was willing to redshirt even though he had the ability to play right away, from what I have read. My hope is he comes out and says learning from the greatest of all time would be an honor for him, and the Colts are good for another 15 years.

The caproom, i don't think, will be a problem, because what was spent this year on Collins, Painter, and Orvolsky is near what Luck would make. Also, if they want to make some moves, I say cut a guy like Brackett. He is good, but older and I think Angerer is better.

  4. I predict Mannings destination is Indy next year. If he is health enough to trade and want to play, then he should play here and Luck can watch for a couple of years. If you recall, before free agency and all the rookie money, QBs usually sat on the bench for a year or two and learned their craft. I think that lack of that is why so many highly rated college QBs have failed. Whether it's David Carr, Tim Couch, or Alex Smith, I think watching for awhile would have helped their confidence and learning the pro game. Luck is above the NFL. He can cry all he wants about wanting to play now (if he would even do that), but he doesn't have a whole lot of say in it.

  5. If Manning is healthy and stays in Indy, the Colts are maybe 8-8 next season. He's a huge difference maker, no doubting that, but he's not going to take a team still looking for a win in week 13 this year and bring them to the playoffs 12 months later.

More importantly, and as you guys are aware, Indy needs to fix their offensive line. Assuming he's healthy, is Manning going to want to take a beating week in and week out, regardless of whether the team wins or loses? Would he hold up under those circumstances? We all saw what a struggle that was in 2010, even for a QB of Manning's ilk and talent, and it can't be fun as a football player who is accustomed to success to be tossed around every Sunday like a rag doll.

Where I'm going with all of this is that a trade scenario is certainly not unlikely. I'm sure Manning is like a god to the Irsays and to Polian, but when #18 does eventually retire, they still have a team to run, and they're going to want to make money. This is a rare opportunity to trade a player who can possibly give you the resources you need to build a foundation aimed at long-term success. If the Cowboys hadn't traded Hershel Walker for a boatload of picks, there's no Dallas Dynasty in the early 90s. And I'm sure the same conversations took place back then.

IMHO, I disagree. I think had Manning played this year, they are a playoff team and will be next year if he plays as well. As was pointed out in a previous post, this is essentially the same team that made the Super Bowl two years back. In fact, in some ways it is better. The running attack is better and the offensive line is better. Now, the cornerback position is weaker.

Now, saying that, I think if Luck is the QB next year, they are a 4-12 team. So if we go with Luck and get rid of Manning, I would expect to Suck With Luck for awhile.

  6. I really don't see Manning being traded. The more this goes on, the more I expect them to coexist for a few years. it is clear in this league that you cannot have just one QB. Ok, so lets say the Colts trade away Manning and put Luck as the new starter. He likely won't do well at first. But what if, by some chance, he gets hurts? Then who plays? Curtis Painter? Someone picked up as a free agent? We are back to where we are now. Same thing if we kept Manning and traded away the Luck pick.

I expect the Colts to draft Luck and carry both for 2-3 years. That way, if Manning gets hurt, Luck is there to play and eventually takes over. To me, it makes the most sense.

  7. Let me just try to throw in my first hand experience, as I had the same surgery around the same time as Peyton. It is far too early to know if his surgery was a success or whether he will play again. I have weakness in my arm as well, but that is completely expected. They told me that at 3 months, the fusion would start, and it would then take likely another 3 months for the fusion to be completed. So it is likely 6 months after surgery that Peyton will be fully healed and then he will know. I think it is far too early to say where Peyton will be next year. I think February is a more likely timeframe to know where he stands, as his December appointment isn't likely to say anymore then how well the fusion is taking hold.

Now, I will say that this surgery should make Peytons neck as solid as it was before his injury, so I doubt if he played we would see a mediocre Peyton playing because he should not be limited by it. The ONLY way he is toast is that if his nerve simply doesn't regenerate, which is a very small chance of happening considering his age, the kind of shape he is in, and the level of doctors who are likely monitoring him and checking everything possible.

I personally would be shocked if Peyton isn't playing next year and having a great season for the Colts.

  8. I honestly think with a middel of the road NFL QB, this team would likely be a 500 team. The poor play of Painter has had an effect on some many areas. The offense does so little that the defensive is on the field most of the time and gets worn out. We have good RBs, good receivers. I can think of five games that we would have won. I know everyone is screaming the team needs to start over or rebuild, but I think it is mostly Painters bad play that has the team down so bad. Yeah, I know, defense was horrid against NO and in some other games. But the defense is what it has mostly been the past few years. Can't stop run well. Huge cushions. Difference is the offensive was putting up points.

  9. Sorry, can't help but laugh how things have changed. Up until a month or so ago, all the talk was that Donald Brown should be cut. It is amazing how blocking up front can help a running back so much. I think Addai, Brown, and Carter are all solid RBs. Just the run blocking has been so poor over the last few years that Colt RBs were being hit at the line or in the backfield.

I think each of the RBs we have brings something different to the team. Ironically, Brown seems to be more decisive now then Addai, who does a lot more hopping around in the holes.

  10. Having to see Jim Caldwell and Clyde Christenson, after two weeks of preparation, coming up with a gameplan that looks pretty much like every other week. Thats the best they got?? How about a halfback pass? Direct snap to a RB? Do SOMETHING different!! Yeah, it probably doesn't work. But at least they can say they tried!!!! But its painful to watch them do the same thing week after week and then say positive things.

Curtis Painter might be the worst NFL QB I have ever seen. Jim Caldwell is brain dead. The defense plays well, but is on the field so much its crazy!! Could a 85 year old Jeff George being any worse?? Can we start running the wishbone. Something????

  11. I think what has happened is that over the last 13 years, the Colts could have a bad game or a bad area on their team, and if they just worked on the basics it would get better. Well, usually didn't get better. Manning just covered it up. So I honestly think Caldwell believes that if they continue to just keep pushing the same gameplan, doing the same things, just as before things will turn around. Of course, he is missing the guy who did it.

  12. I really have have no suggestions. I, personally, think it would be a mistake to get rid of the Polians. But if I were to pretend they were retiring, I really don't know. Good GMs might be as rare as franchise QBs. You can't just find them laying around. Often times raid a successful team like NE for assistant GMs. But its hard to tell if that person really has the ability or in just a good situation. I wouldn't want to make that call. I would want someone with a proven winning track record.

  13. Painter should have been benched weeks ago. This is a classic Polian move,he drafted him,so he is not going to admit that was a mistake,,ever. That's how this team is with that antiquated defense they play, yearly horrific special teams, etc. They will not admit failure and change,it has always been like that.

Painter sucks and he shoudl have been benched weeks ago. But I never understand the comment that Polian is so hard headed, he won't admit mistakes. Jerry Hughes in inactive more then active. Donald Brown didn't play at the beginning of the years. Polian invested much more in them, and they didn't play. So is Polian telling Caldwell he has to start Painter?? Seems Caldwell is deciding who is inactive and who is playing. Trust me, I am as frustrated as you. But I have seen Polian picks like Sweet Pea Burns not even last a year and their didn't seem to be pride involved.

  14. one question...WHY didnt we run the ball !?!?!?!?!?! we were inside the 10 and we pass ? SMH

I agree with you. I expected a draw to Brown to throw them off. I would never, ever want it to come down to Painter throwing into a tight spot. But that's the brilliant playcalling at work there.

  15. Typical ending. Manage to find some way to win the games. But because Painter lucked out on a couple of plays, we will have to hear about how you can't put it on Painter. So we'll keep marching forward, doing the same thing.

You know what i find so disheartening. There is a chance all of this could mean Manning on another team next year. The man. The franchise. And it like they just keep marching forwarding, doing the same thing. So Luck, with team, is going to win next year? Doubt it. Where is the effort from the management and coaching?
