  1. I cannot imagine any scenerio where Caldwell survices. Also any GM that comes in gets their own coach. Secondary, Grigson will probably want to change the systems, and Caldwell is a Tony Dungy-Light coach. I honestly hope they impliment more of a west coast offense and an attacking defense like the Giants do. Peyton Manning can play any offense and Andrew Luck is well schooled in West Coast, so it would make the team not so reliant on one player.

I look forward to the next coach. I want to see another up and coming coach similar to what Grigson is to GMs. If we go older, Brian Bellick.

  2. I honestly would be surprised if the Colts went after Fisher. I think the idea is to get younger and have more energy. Grigs kind of represents that. Therefore, I am just guessing if another coach is brought in, it will be a younger assistant who is viewed as an up and comer.

  3. haha me too. I'd love for Grigson to get some big name FA's as well, to help transition the eras. Andrew might fare much better immediately surrounded by vets. Kinda like the Jets, but, you know... with a GOOD quarterback.

    lol Nice shot at Sanchez!!

I do hope Grigs builds mostly from the draft but adds a few pieces here or there in FA. Don't want to become the "Dream Team".

  4. I can't help but laugh about the (mis) fortune of the Colts about to land Andrew Luck. All those Colt haters out there were just waiting fo the day when Peyton would be hurt or retire so then the Colts would go back to being bad. I have a Dolphin fan friend who was so happy the Colts were bad this year.

But just think how fortunate we are to go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck. It almost doesn't seem fair to the rest of the NFL!!! hahahahahaha I love it!!

  5. I hope whoever they get brings in more of a West Coast offense, which I would expect since the Eagles run a version of it. Manning will succeed in any offense. Luck played in one at Stanford and has done well. The biggest advantage is that you can see players are interchangeable, meaning not everything depends on one player ala Peyton Manning. In Philadelphia, it seems no matter who they have at QB or WR, they do well.

  6. I don't know the guy and maybe he will do good. But I would rather not have that Eagle way of bringing in Free Agents ala Redskins that don't jell and underachieve. I honestly was hoping either Telesco would have been promoted or Popp was brought in. Telesco because I would hope he learned the talent part from Bill Polian. Popp because his success and how he built the teams in Montreal. Sure, it isn't the NFL, but he laid out a nice blue print.

I just hope Jim Irsay keeps college talent evaluations at the top of the list and not who will be nice to the locals.

As bizarre as it sounds, if I were Jim Irsay I would ask Bill Polian for his opinion. I remember Polian thought very highly of Mayhew when Detroit promoted him to GM.

  7. Andrew, look I know you want to play right away. But just a few things for you to think about:

    1) We have had a very long tradition of winning football games here and we are committed to doing that. Sure, this year was bad, but it was a speed bump. So in coming here you know we are committed to winning.

    2) We also are a passing team. We have a tradition of bringing in play makers and that will continue. So you will definitely get to throw the ball quite a bit to quality receivers. We will have more balance with running, but we are a pass first team.

    3) We drafted two tackles last year, and we are committed to building a good run and pass blocking offensive line.

    4) If you sit here for 2-3, you will get a chance to learn from the greatest QB of all time on how to prepare. You won't have to go through the rookie year of being pounded. Look at Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay versus David Carr coming into the Texans. Since you are a junior, at least you gain a year in that area.

    5) If we don't take you or we trade you to a team like the Browns or Redskins, you see the disfunction that has gone on there. Head coaches changing every few years, owner getting involved, not a lot of talent. Do you really want to put yourself through that? Here, we have a solid owner, a solid structure, and a proven track record.

  8. I think it would be interesting to rob the Bengals of both coordinators, like how the Cardinals did the same the Steelers when they were chosing between Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhunt. What if the Colts hired Mike Zimmer and he brought in Jay Gruden as Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head coach, which would be an upgrade for Gruden.

  9. I agree with you. Trading Peyton Manning to a team like the Jets pretty much assures that until Peyton retires, we have no chance of being the AFC team in the Super Bowl. In fact, ANY team in the NFL likely means we can cross off a couple of years. After all, if he can win with no running attack or defense, imagine what he could do with a team that has those things.

What also surprises me is why people think we would dump Peyton. Jim Irsay has already stated:

    1) If Peyton Manning is healthy to play, he will play in Indy.

    2) Peyton Manning is a family decision, not a football decision.

So many more ways can he say "Look, I love the guy. He goes nowhere!"

  10. I honestly don't see a problem. Peyton has shown he is a team guy. He puts the better of the team over himself. He knows if Andrew Luck comes onboard, it helps the overall team and ensures they will be good after he retires. So why would their be a problem? Andrew Luck knows this is a team committed to winning and, other than this year, does win. So sitting a couple of years behind Manning could be very beneficial to him.

I have no evidence, but it seems to me both guys are respectful to the game and their teams. I really don't see any problem.

  11. I can only go by what I have read about Telesco, but from that I think it would be a great move. Bill Polian is a great talent evaluator. I don't know that anyone can argue with that. So if Telesco has learned from Polian and has that same eye, but maybe isn't as controlling and paranoid, I can't think of a better combination to have. He is a younger guy, relatively, for his position. I have heard him described as a blue collar, hard working guy that relates well with people. Seems like a good candidate.

  12. 1) Fire Jim Caldwell and the entire staff

    2) Bring in a head coach who is creative with a west coast type of offense, since Peyton can succeed in any offense and Andrew Luck has done well in it.

    3) Bring in Steve Spagnioulo as the DC, snce he is very aggressive with a 4-3 and brings much pressure.

    4) Say goodbye to Gary Brackett, Melvin Bullett, and Reggie Wayne

    5) Draft Andrew Luck with the #1 pick and let him set behind Peyton. We need two QBs anyways.

    6) Resign Anderson and Brayton

    7) Draft a WR at the top of round 2

    8) Sign a free agent guard and cornerback

  13. Interesting that he was retained even though he was a Polian guy. He is highly thought of, at least by Peter King. He is a younger guy who has learned quite a bit from Bill Polian. So it would be interesting if he was just promoted to GM and then brought in a new HC.

From Peter King via Colts Authority

Best two front office guys right now: Indy director of player personnel (for now) Tom Telesco, and right-hand-of-Ozzie-Newsome Eric DeCosta, likely the heir to Newsome in Baltimore.

  14. Here is something to keep in mind. Even if Manning is back and the Colts trade the #1 pick, they still need another QUALITY QB on the team. I think Manning's neck will be fine, but he is one injury away from another season like this year. So if you are going to bring in a quality QB, why not Andrew Luck??

I used to be against it, but I do believe Andrew Luck will go to the Colts and play behind Peyton Manning. The Colts would be foolish not to make that pick.

  15. That is the one disadvantage to taking weeks to finding a new GM. The likely highly rated coaches will be gone. Unless, of course, the coach the Irsay wants is on one of the playoff teams. Then I guess it doesn't matter.

As much as I hate the guy, I wish the Colts could somehow come up with a Bill Belichick type coach, minus the cheating. I love his system. They can put anyone on that team and they do pretty well. The system is bigger than what players are playing. Just like the 80s 49ers. I think we need that type of coach and system. Jim Caldwell is a joke of a head coach.

  16. Do consider that even if we didn't pick Luck, we HAVE to bring in a quality backup. I think Peyton's neck will be fine, but what if in game 2 his knee gets taken out? We are right back to what we are this year. So if we have to have two QBs, why not make that other QB Andrew Luck??

I used to be against picking Luck because I feel Manning will be playing at least 4 more years, and no way Luck sits that long. But we have to get somebody to back him up for that long. Now, maybe we trade the pick and pick up another QB in two years. I don't know. But I would pick Luck just to make sure.
