  1. Unpopular opinion, but a good Head Coach is just as important, if not more important, than a good QB. QBs only control one aspect of the game, whereas a coach controls everything.

Also, in this scenario, I think they would have spoken to Irsay about the plan and both would retain their jobs next year. You can’t look at what they have done with extremely poor QB play, so you have to go back to how the team was under Luck to evaluate them

  2. ESPN just recently put up an "article" of sorts predicting what would happen if certain players went to certain places. Of course, the Colts are listed on here multiple times, but the most interesting one for me for Indy was found under the idea of Tom Brady going to the Chargers. After Brady goes to LA, Rivers ends up signing with Jacksonville in this scenario. This is where it gets fun, and I have below the quotes from both parts of the Colts mentions in this section:

    Quote

THE JAGS TRADE NICK FOLES TO THE COLTS IN A SALARY DUMP

To get out of the $20.6 million guaranteed owed to Foles over the next two years, the Jaguars ship their deposed starter to Indy. To get the Colts to eat the money, though, Jacksonville has to send the 20th overall selection it received from the Rams in the Jalen Ramsey trade -- similar to the Brock Osweiler deal in 2017 -- although Indy ships the 110th pick back to the Jags.

This is followed by this prediction:

    Quote

THE COLTS PACKAGE THEIR FIRST-ROUND PICKS TO TRADE UP FOR TUA TAGOVAILOA

With plenty of cap room and draft assets left, general manager Chris Ballard decides to add Indy's quarterback of the future, too. The Colts package the 13th, 20th and 44th selections and send them to the Lions for the third overall pick and a fifth-rounder to draft the Alabama star, who will spend most of 2020 recovering from his hip injury behind Nick Foles and Jacoby Brissett.

Here is the link to the article so you can look through everything yourselves:

    http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/28600904/predicting-2020-nfl-offseason-dominoes-eight-star-players-set-144-move-chaos

What do you all think? Would you do this in this scenario? Personally, I would do the first deal to get Foles, but then keep pick 20 and use 13 on Kinlaw and 20 on Love. There are lots of other Colts mentions here as well, and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

To me, the article/blurbs are basically the same as what you said.

But I agree that you go DE before OT. And because of depth of WR, you go WR even later than DE and OT.

Lol, I tried to edit before anyone caught it to clarify but I was a bit late haha . It should be more laid out now.

Also, agreed on WR. If we go for each of these 3, disregarding need, go DE, OT, then WR. OT and WR are really deep this year, but DE is not deep at all, and a sizeable drop after the first 4 go

blurb from fanspeak on OT and DE depth

Interesting, though I think it’s a bit different regarding this class. I think there is one star DE and 3 other good DE’s in the draft, while I see 4 Stud tackles and 4 or 5 more good OTs in the class. If you go for both this year, go DE early and get OT a bit later. I know it sounds similar to how it’s posted, but I think if you even want a contributor in this class at DE you need one in the first, and if you want an OT you can grab a stud early or wait until the 4th/5th for a development prospect with major upside

It's hard for me to believe Love will make it past the Saints and Patriots in the 20s. Ballard could trade back with the Eagles or Bills to get Love then. Eagles need a Cornerback more than anything so that leaves the Bills. The Bills need a number 1 receiver, and Jerry Jeudy isn't going to fall to the 20s. Bills could trade up and snatch Jeudy at 13 and we take their 22nd pick and get Love then.

My favorite idea is to trade picks 34 and our 3rd to the Bills for 22 to leapfrog the Pats and Saints there. The value is about even according to the pick value chart

  6. So, in thinking today about some picks and whatnot, I have decided to come up with a new Mock Draft for the team, and this time, I wanted to make some trades. Let's get into it!

Round 1, Pick 13: Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina

The more I work through scouting and mock drafts, the more I feel like, should Kinlaw be there at 13, he has to be the pick. He is exactly what Ballard has said he's looking for, and exactly what this team needs. Kinlaw steps in as a Day One starter, and has All Pro upside within a few years. Unless Derrick Brown falls here, Kinlaw is my choice 9 times out of 10.

    TRADE!!!!!

The Colts Trade Picks 34 and 75 to the Buffalo Bills for Pick 22

Round 1, Pick 22: Jordan Love, QB, Utah State

I know, I know. Surprising, isn't it. However, I never was on the train of thought that Jordan Love wasn't good, I just didn't want to use Pick 13 on him. However, he is moving up slowly in my rankings and now has a decent gap between him and my QB 5 of Jacob Eason. I would prefer to get Love with Pick 34, but I don't see him falling past the Saints at 24, so we leapfrog them here to get our (hopefully) Franchise QB. Bring in a Vet (Rivers/Brady?) to mentor him for a year and see where he takes us!

Round 2, Pick 44: Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma

Kinlaw slides in at the 3-tech, and Gallimore comes in as our new 1-tech. Gallimore is a very good interior lineman, and pairing these two early picks together up front will tremendously improve both our pass rush and overall defense. If Gallimore isn't here, I'd look at Ross Blacklock, though he projects more as a 3-tech like Kinlaw.

Round 4: Solomon Kindley, G, Georgia

Kindley is my top rated Interior O-lineman, yet I have seen him fall this far in many drafts before. He is dominant at everything he does, with the only knock on him being that he might want to lose some weight to move faster in the NFL. Other than that, he is a beast. He would replace Glow on the right side almost from day one, and help our front line become even more dominant, potentially making it the unquestioned best in the league pending Castonzo's decision.

Round 5: Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame

An amazing WR, the only knock on Claypool's game is that he is too slow. If he does well at the combine in the 40, he could shoot up draft boards, as his skill set is that of a round 1 talent. I think he could take over as our WR1 in a few years, as he is that good to be going this late in the draft.

    Round 6 (1st): Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty

I know back-to-back receivers doesn't sound great, but each of these guys have so much potential in a deep class that I can't miss out on either. Given a few years of development, if they both pan out, they could be our top two WRs for the future after TY.

Round 6 (2nd): A.J. Dillon, RB, Boston College

This team has a great running game, but none of the guys on the roster really fit well in a goal-line back role. That is Dillon's specialty. At this late stage of the draft, getting a guy who could score 10+ touchdowns as a rookie is a massive get for a team that all to often is forced to pass or sweep outside in short yardage situations.

Round 7: Shyheim Carter, S, Alabama

A late round steal, Carter is a team's chess-piece. He has the speed to play as a nickel corner, while also having many times where Saban moved him to a sub LB. He won't start for the team, but in obvious passing situations he can come in and play an important role of shutting down the short and intermediate area's of the field.

Any changes you might make? Any surprises? Who here is your favorite pick, and who don't you like? Mock draft 3 will come out at some point soon after the Combine! I hope you enjoy this draft as much as I do! GO COLTS!!

You're going to want a WR in there somewhere in the first 2 rounds. Just Clowney and Kinlaw alone would be a huge upgrade and as much as you need. Then go to work on improving the O.  WR; TE; OT. And of course........ someone who can throw the ball.

The dream for me would be Kinlaw in the first, Love and Blacklock in the second, and then Denzel Mims in the 3rd, adding a TE and Chase Claypool in the next few rounds

  8. @stitches Thank you for your input! I'll hit on a few things you mentioned as to my thought process:

    - Reagor over Ruggs was easy for me. Jalen is extremely underrated and despite being 5'11, he high points the ball better than almost anyone in the class. That, along with his speed, makes him a very interesting player for me, and I agree that the overall depth is amazing this year!

    - Josh Jones, though I like his tools, is very raw. I like his skillset, but IMO he's got a ton to work on before I'd be confident putting him on the field.

    - Kindley, along with Lemieux, are grossly underrated by most board. The only knock on Kindley is that he actually might want to lose weight, but every other aspect of his game is top tier. He and Lemieux are both rated by many as mid-rounders, but they should be the top two IOL off the board IMO.

    - I haven't gotten to the tape of Jordan Elliott yet. I've heard good things, but very little. He's coming up for me though, and I'll bump him up some for you lol.

    - Finally, I totally agree with the CB sentiment. I think both the WR and CB groups are really good and really deep, and I think the top 8 CBs on this board should be starters by the end of year 1.

    - One final point. You didn't mention this, but in talking about depth at some positions, I wanted to mention that I think this EDGE class is very top heavy. After the top 3 (Young, Epenese, Gross-Matos), the group is very underwhelming.

    Thanks again for your input!

Marlon Davidson of Auburn, I feel, is better than Julian Okwara of Notre Dame, he should be No.5 amongst DEs, IMO, he can also be moved inside and played, is more versatile.

I knew I was missing someone haha. I like Davidson, but just not that much. I'd have him as my 8th Ranked EDGE, and will go ahead and edit that in. Thanks for the name, probably forgot a few others as well.

  10. Walter Football is an interesting source. Half of their takes that are seen as questionable are spot on, and half of the takes that are reliable are dead wrong.  I love how in depth they go with a lot of players, but its a dart throw to see if they are right or not. What people fail to realize is that Walter and Charlie DO have sources, which the average fan does not. So complaining about someone who has more knowledge on a subject is questionable, and therefore I will not complain and take it in as viable information for the time being.

However, I will say that I have a second round grade on Love, so higher than 4th round, but not quite 1st round. Nobody really knows until the draft though.

  11. For the first time ever, I present to the forum my own NFL Draft Big Boards. These are by position, as I have not had time to fully create an overall board yet. They will also change over time, so don't expect everything to be the same after the combine when I release my second takes along with (hopefully) an overall board. I hope you enjoy, and don't be afraid to ask questions and push for certain players that I might have too high or too low!

Since Mahomes is merely average from the pocket, his bad ankle limited his ability to create his typical backyard plays, so the offense was less effective.  Also Hill was not in the game, and since he is a real talent at the WR position, having a player like that creates spaces in the defense by which Mahomes' backyard plays can work.

Left with just Watkins, Kelce, and Williams, and a pocket-stuck Mahomes, they were not exceptionally tough to defend.

Also, we employed a proper offense.  We sought to play keep away....instead of trying to get chunk yards a lot of the time......by using a QB who was accurate with short passes.  We won, in part,  because his long ball inaccuracy wasn't even relevant.  Also, I think Chris Jones was either out of the game or on limited snaps because of injury.

Yet no mention of all the injuries we had against us. Both starting safeties, Darius Leonard, Tyquan Lewis, and Parris Campbell all sat, and going into the game, TY, Mack, and Rock were each questionable. Injuries weren't the reason we won. We won despite injuries.
