  1. As long as it is legal, I say use it and abuse it until the league outlaws it or your opponents start stopping you. Exploit until they adjust.

I don't have strong feelings about whether it should or shouldn't be legal.

Seems like there's a bigger chance of winning the lottery than getting tickets on July 11th. If I understand everything correctly everyone is able to buy 4 tickets per  registration code. Is anyone here planning to buy more than they need if they get through? I could definitely buy all 4 if I do get through if that meant being able to help others on here out.

If I get the chance I will buy as many as I can. I have a few friends who want to come, but if I have any ticket left I will let you guys know.

NFL Players Suspended For Violating DraftKings Terms Of Use

NEW YORK—As the league sought to crack down on players involved in gambling, the NFL announced this week the suspension of four players for violating the DraftKings terms of use. “The players in question are receiving indefinite suspensions for conduct that goes against the basic integrity of DraftKings and everything that DraftKings stands for,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, adding that the players in question failed to abide by several key stipulations clearly laid out in the sports betting company’s legal agreement. “The league takes this matter very seriously, and we cannot permit our players to put our fans’ belief in the outcome of their DraftKings bets in jeopardy through their casual flaunting of the rules. DraftKings made these rules for a reason, whether that’s eligibility or withdrawal of prizes, and we need to punish those who violate the rules to deter future violations. These players need to remember who they work for.” Goodell also reminded the rest of the league to take the four players’ suspensions into account when placing their future DraftKings bets.

This is probably true. Franchise QB is nearly untouchable.

I guess what I really wonder is whether the Colts were intent on sending a message, and if so was that message meant to be 'we don't care who you are, if you violate the policy we'll cut you.' Or if I'm just reading too much into the choice of words.

I think you are reading too much into the specific wording of this release. It pretty much says they don't approve of players gambling(duh!) and try to distance themselves from the guilty parties.

It is a 6 game suspension? That is not much. I would have kept him.

Could another team sign him during his suspension? Someone will sign him at some point.

It's 6 games for players that have bet on other sports and leagues from team facility... That's what Jameson Williams got suspended for(6 games).

Rodgers will be minimum of 1 year... indefinite... he will have to appeal next off-season and see if the NFL will reinstate him.

@stitches Do you think the Colts would have cut Calvin Ridley? The Falcons kept him, then traded him to the Jags, but he's a higher caliber player.

Probably not. But I'm not sure. Again ... I'm not saying the Colts will have the exact same limits as other teams, but they will have limits. Lets say we had a Luck type of player circa 2016 and he got caught gambling on Colts games(betting for wins) he didn't participate in because he was recovering from injury and was away from the team(exactly what Ridley got suspended for). There is about ZERO chance he gets cut. NO FREAKING WAY! They will let him serve his suspension and welcome him back with open arms the next year. Now start lowering the quality of the player... at some point you will reach a level where they will cut the guy. No idea where that line is... and of course IMO the type of betting matters too for the line they will set. Example - if a Rodgers was caught betting only on NBA games... IMO Rodgers would have survived that and the Colts would have welcomed him back after he served his 6 game suspension.

That is a good point. I think I would replace "society" with "football fans". Those in society who are non-football fans would most likely view sexual assault as worse. But I agree with your statement that gambling is seen as worse for business.

This is fair. I was just generalizing because football is so popular and the NFL supposedly cares about not just the current fans but possibly about what prospective fans would think if they want to grow their business...

It just goes to show you that the NFL thinks gambling is far worse than sexual assault

I don't think so. IMO it shows that NFL thinks that gambling by players is far worse FOR THEIR BUSINESS than sexual assault. In a certain way, it's reflection on society more than a reflection on the NFL, because it shows what the NFL thinks society is more willing to tolerate in their entertainment.

In general I agree. The impact of the player will always be a factor. But Rodgers isn't a JAG, he was almost a critical piece, and they didn't hesitate. In fact, he wasn't around for other offseason events, so the team seems to have made their mind up on this before today's events. I find it hard to believe that they would have cut Buckner, but it makes me wonder.

He's not a JAG but IMO the Colts and the coaching staff don't see him the way a lot of fans see him. Gus Bradley has been reluctant to give him starting snaps since the beginning. How does Rodgers start behind Facyson in training camp? Based on what? How does Rodgers start behind Facyson before or after game 1? Or after game 2?... Or game 5? How does Rodgers lose a SINGLE SNAP to Facyson for the entire rest of the season? Purely based on level of play nobody can convince me Facyson deserved to play more snaps than Rodgers last year. IMO Gus just doesn't value him all that much.

And I mentioned this in an earlier post, but the league (and apparently the Colts) are not viewing ethical/moral issues on the same level as gambling. If gambling isn't heavily regulated, it could easily destroy the league, and the powers that be are setting a strong standard with it. Conflating this with Watson or others is missing the point.

I mean we've seen different teams do the exact same calculation and cut certain players while retaining others for the exact same gambling infractions. I really don't think the Colts are anything special in that regard. They would act in very similar ways... the only question is where they'd put their lines. And in that regard the calculations would be very similar to what they did with Watson. Maybe the line would be a bit different. Maybe they'd put it at the 90th percentile of players rather than at the 80th... but there will be a line past which they won't cut the player for the exact same thing Rodgers did.

It's not surprising to me. There's really nothing to talk about. Minicamp was uneventful, there are no injury updates, no serious contract issues. Aside from the gambling, it seems like the typical doldrums of the offseason. The quieter, the better, IMO. There's generally not much good NFL news in late June/July.

IMO we got overcharged and burned out over the off-season up until the week of the draft and then minicamps because the anticipation of the draft of QB took too much out of the fanbase... and now it seems like people have decided to take somewhat of a break. At least that's what I'm doing... I'm still checking the news once a day but I don't bother to comment on some small bits of news. I'm recharging the batteries so I can go full steam ahead in pre-season and during the season.

Yeah, I was looking for more details on the bets placed. The article says at least one bet on the Colts, the RB prop, which is silly. I wonder what the payout was...

I get the team's stance. If you violate the gambling policy, they're going to take a hard line. I hope no one else gets implicated at any point, but if this is the standard, you have to apply it equally. So if Buckner violates the gambling policy, what's the outcome??

While I understand it, I don't know if it's absolutely necessary to get rid of the player. Especially a young player. But I can't argue that they are going overboard or doing him wrong.

I don't think teams are consistent and principled in their decisions. This includes the Colts. IMO there is a level of player where the reputational damage is "worth it". No idea where that line is... IMO Buckner doesn't get cut unless the league tell the Colts the "indefinite" suspension is actually a forever suspension. If the player is good enough teams WILL disregard/work around ethically and morally questionable behaviors. Just like they did with Deshaun Watson(this includes the Colts). I don't think it's really a question about whether they would be consistent with the stars of the team. IMO they won't. The only question is where exactly the line is on player/asset quality.

For example... would they cut Richardson? How about Buckner? How about Taylor? Pittman? Stewart? I think we are getting close to the line here...

Really dumb on his part. His friends had him do it because it's not legal in Florida, so he breaks NFL rules and gets suspended over it.

I don't know how else to qualify this, but incredible stupidity and idiocy. And he made a huge prop bet on Colts RB.

At least this doesn't say he bet against the Colts... but prop bets on Colts players while having internal information about game plans and preparation for the game is close second to betting on your team to lose in a game you play...

Well... I'm really disappointed. I have been Rodgers' biggest fan here and I've been advocating for him starting since last year... but he deserves that punishment and he deserves to get cut. I hope it was worth it and his friends can cover his losses of >2M this year and potentially 25-30M down the road.  :grumpy2:

I Just got an email that they are going on sale tomorrow at 5 am est.   I'm not sure if that is for the miami game there or both games.  I will not be waking up at 5 am to do it though.

    15 hours ago, JackWV said:

I read it as both games. But I figured at 6 am  est, not 5....   Germany is 6 hour ahead correct?

The sale is starting in 75 minutes or so, but from what I'm seeing it's just for the Dolphins vs Chiefs game today. Not 100% certain though...

  14. IMO at this point we are all just guessing and it's probably not helpful. Did he bet on Colts games directly(outcome of the game) or on fantasy, did he bet on wins or losses? Did he bet on games he played in or not? Did he bet on player props? At this point I'm content not even guessing the answers to those questions... lets just wait and see what the league will say when they announce the results of their investigation. Whatever it is... we know Rodgers probably knew he was doing something against the rules, since he tried to hide his activities(by not using his own account but using a friend's account). Whatever the findings, I doubt the punishment will be less than a year... a year in which Rodgers was slotted to be our starting outside corner with the opportunity to earn a huge payday at the end of that year. And now it's very likely all over for him... what a stupid waste of a talent.

I just checked and you're right. They did the scouts pressers last year, and Ballard did a film review a couple weeks later. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen this year. Blame Steichen... /s

I think Ballard has decided to strike back. This was the first year he got any significant heat from local media about the job he's doing and he probably doesn't feel like giving them any more attention than he's required to.

I feel like they replaced that with the scouts interviews right after the draft.

I think they had scouts interviews in previous years too...

BTW... what I really want to see is something similar but for the fans directly rather than the media... Let the coaches break down some plays that exeplify what they loved in these prospects and how they see using them on our team.

Monti was working... Entire room was quiet, no one talking but him and whoever he needed info from. That's kind of a thrilling scene to watch. I would absolutely love to sit in the room during the draft and just observe.

It's like real life version of Draft Day :D Only Monti's piece of paper said "Paris Johnson no matter what" :P

He showed great command of all his available resources and of the room. Great watch.
