Let's say we don't trade JT, he plays out his contract and doesn't resign. Would we receive a compensatory pick for him. What would it be?

Still not sure how compensatory picks work.

We will unless we sign another free agent of similar value. If he gets the 16M he wants it would most probably be a 3d round comp pick. Or 4th... depending on the market. The last 3d rounder last year was for Mike McGlinchey who signed for 17.5M a year. The first 4th round compensatory pick was Zach Allen for 15.25M a year... so ... he would be at about the border between 3d and 4th... IF he gets what he seems to want.

For those leaning into Miami being a strong option....The dolphins might be, but they have $11 mil. In cap space today, and next year they are set to be $47 mil OVER the cap....  I don't know if any deal is there to be made.

Those numbers mean nothing if they decide to go all in. We've seen teams move money on a whim in the short term to load up on talent. If they think Taylor is the final piece for them, the cap space won't be the problem.

    Nice post.

Does anyone get anxious when it shows Jackie Daytona reacted to one of your post? Wandering what post is about to be hit with a confused emoji?

A contender is likely to pay the most in any trade.   They have the most incentive hoping the deal would lead to a deep playoff run.

What’s the incentive for a non-contender to overpay?

Agreed. It's going to be either contender or a team that thinks they are close to contending and looking to get there. That's why I've kept returning to Miami(in addition to the agent thing, which would be really weird if he didn't know something). Also... look for a team who just lost their RB due to injury or something... (coincidentally, Miami kind of fits that mold too - Achane just injured his shoulder is he's week-to-week)

This all of course relies on the assumption that Taylor is actually healthy or is really close to returning to play.

Good for them. Lets see if anyone bites...  2nd and 3d-4th is about what I expect. Maybe Achane and 2nd would be good.

Achane got injured in the pre-season so it might be additional factor to the Dolphins wanting to trade for Taylor and the injury is still not serious enough to dissuade the Colts I guess... (listed week-to-week)

     What! So drafting a Tackle,

Super raw tackle in the 4th... and I liked that pick, but I said it at the time too - he has potential... but he's not good right now... and he hasn't been good in pre-season so far... which again.. is OK for a developmental tackle. It's not OK for a player who you might have to start week 1.

and signing a Alabama G with a good resume is doing nothing at all!

Alabama G is a UDFA... and I liked him too... but this cannot be serious when talking about addressing the weaknesses of this OL, especially when talking about immediate impact.

Whether you like it or not, Pinter and French have earned Ballard's respect.

If Ballard is relying on Pinter and French, then again - this is on him! He's repeating the same mistakes with the OL again and again...

They have been developing O'Donnell for a few years. No I'm not impressed by them, but it's a long season and you just never know who might step up.

O'Donnell is another UDFA, who has shown literally NOTHING for us to even have hopes he will be good rotational piece. I don't mind taking those type of shots on developmental players. But they have to show something for me to keep giving them shot after shot and betting the health of my highly prized QBs on them...

They ask about updates on JT all the time.   BUT Steichen gives a very limited answer.  The media is NOT ignoring it.

They are not ignoring it, but it's almost like... they are asking some questions by default... just to say they asked something. None of them has asked the question why is an injury that was supposed to be healed months ago, still a problem? or any similar pointed question...

Maybe, but I don't even know if it's about subpar backups. It's more about putting him out there with a bunch of guys who probably aren't even on the roster in two weeks. If that's the case, what's the point?

In Richardson's case, I'm not too worried about the protection in preseason. He can protect himself. I think it's more about managing the workload of the majority of the starting level players, after a week of joint practices. I don't really like the way they handled it, not with a rookie QB, but it's becoming the standard over the last couple seasons to sit most of your starters in Game 2.

And our record early in the seasons suggests that something is not right about the way we are preparing for the start of the seasons...

  9. I'm looking for the last interviews with Taylor I can find before he stopped talking/contract dispute started...

April(a question about the contract... then a question about the surgery, gets asked if he's good to go to do everything... says "not everything right now, but ... we rolling"(seems like he's suggesting everything is going really well in his recovery):

June 14(nothing about the injury... some about running back value in the league - "it's on them(the Colts) right now" about new contract)... this is on the media - how the hell do you not ask about his injury here ???:

Could you point me to the day?

I think I remember someone asking him when he expected Taylor to start practicing. I don't remember anyone asking why the recovery has taken so much longer than expected.

A radio interview with a national show is not the same as a presser with Colts reporters. I would expect the people who report on the team every day to ask the insightful questions about the most important topics.

I think someone asked what the Taylor injury is and he said "ankle" but not sure if any of them actually did a solid follow up about why is the ankle that was supposed to be healed 6 months ago still a problem... and to be honest - I don't expect Steichen to actually answer that question(not a legit reason not to ask it, though).

Yeah, I'd rather have seen him play Saturday. But the logic is that they had intense joint practices the week before the game, and those are being used to replace the reps he'd get in preseason. There's also an argument that a lot of starters go so hard in joint practices that it would be detrimental to their recovery to have them play the second preseason game. So if more than half of your starting offense isn't playing in Game 2, maybe don't put your starting QB out there with a cast of backups. I'm not supporting these arguments, just repeating them.

Apparently the plan is for the starters to play in Game 3, though.

You have a lot more faith in Gardner Minshew than I do...

I kind of feel like his status for pre-season game 3 will depend on the status of the OL. Which further emphasizes my dismay about how Ballard has treated the OL. We are so afraid to put RIchardson with subpar backups but we didn't address the depth at all in the off-season and pretty much any injury to a starting OL will put guys in play that I would worry about starting...

Stampede Blue intimated that he will not play. The wording was not clear but the writer said that Richardson will wait to make his next start on Sept. 10th.

    ARTICLE

It actually says HOME debut, which is almost guaranteed at this point. The game in Philly won't be home debut, whether he plays or not.

Are we not having joint practice with the Eagles as well?  How many teams are having 2 sets of joint practices with teams?

Is this common practice this season?  Because if it's not then he'll more than make up for those snaps against Philly.

Im sure he'll take the bulk of those snaps including the bulk of the playing time in the actual Eagles Colts game.

Yes, we have joint practice, but I think it's only 1 practice because we play on Thursday... I don't think this is the norm, but I've been seeing more teams do joint practices last few years. Maybe they will become regularity in the future.

Yeah, thanks for the exact number. I remember he was talking about retirement after one of them. I think he said he had headaches for 3 weeks non stop and was questioning whether he'd ever be able to play again... Scary stuff. Hope he's OK.
