I do not like him on our line,
I do not like him any time.
He cannot block the pass nor run,
He can't even block the rays of the sun.
He's awful at guard,
Nobody knows why.
So awful in fact,
It makes Peyton cry.
His play in at tackle was quite out of place,
So bad even Peyton punched himself in the face.
He's moved all around to see where he fits,
But our passer's only safe in the time's that he sits.
We keep playing him even though it makes people sick,
Why, you'd think he was a Polian first round draft pick!
Maybe we'll trade him to the Raiders or Chiefs,
For an old moldy pair of men's boxer-briefs.
Unlikely it is though we'll send him away,
he'll most likely be starting on opening day.
It's a sad situation, that much is now known,
But we'll live with, and live through it as history has shown.
He'll play poorly against those when we've got the rock,
He'll let Peyton be sacked with a whiffed block.
We'd be better off trading for an old musty sock,
Anything other than Jeff Linkenbach.
Dr. Suess ain't got nothing on me. :heh:

Yeah link looked horrible, but i thought Diem looked better at guard then he did at RT. Maybe we should just let Ijalana start at RT, even though he's a rookie he can't be any worse then Link. I was kinda sad to see Diem still get a false start lined up as a guard though.

I agree with you on Matthews, he didn't do much at all. I also must add that his spin move is horrible.

The main reason why we are so bad without Peyton is his ability to change the play at the last second, to get us in the best position to be successful. Probably half the plays they line up in doesnt have a real chance to succeed. He also helps out the O-line by having the uncanny ability of calling out which guys are going to be blitzing. I've heard a lot of interviews from players that are baffled by how peyton always seems to know who's blitzing and who's not. Peyton also works extremely hard with his WR's, just by giving a simple glance to his WR or hand signal, the WR knows exactly what to do and they can change their route in a split second. It also helps that Peyton is extremely accurate too.
They're probably a lot more reasons why we can't function without Peyton but these are some that i could think of, off the top of my head. Peyton has taken the QB position to a whole nother level and some of the other QB's in the league are starting to follow.

I will have to say Joe Reitz and Brian Waters!!
Please Colts please sign Waters to a 1 or 2 year contract, i beg you!!!
Well if we don't sign Waters, I will go with Devan.

mike pollack is a product of Bill polians ego!!

Lienart has shown flashes of extraordinary competence over the years, and by all accounts has improved upon that. No way SD lets go of Volek. Vince Young needs to stay at least 300 miles from Indianapolis, no thank you.
Yeah Matt Leinart has showed so much competence over the years that his college coach Pete Carrol wouldn't even give him a chance to compete against Tavaris Jackson for the starting QB spot!! Even though Leinart will be an improvement over Painter the result will end the same with a handful more of 1st downs.
-
This is the catch, Houston just switched to the 3-4 and I don't see how Hughes fits in? I'd be all for it. Of all the trade ____ for ____ threads, this one actually makes some sense and doesn't insult the fans intelligence. Lienart would be comforting behind Manning, but I think Houston would rather watch us fail rather than help us out, which is exactly what they'd be doing.
With the state of our O-line, running game and our Defense it's going to take a good QB to run this offense. The only back up Qb's in the league that could possibly go out and win a game is Matt Flynn, Billy Volek and Vince Young if he's mentally stable that day. I'm not really into giving up on Hughes for a backup QB that will get a few more 1st downs then Painter.
-
We should try Hughes at OLB before we give up on him. He seems to play a lot better when he's standing up. I think he would be pretty scary blitzing from the OLB position with his great speed. I'm not garunteeing it will work but it's at least a shot.

The biggest problem is that Bill Polian was spending a 1st round pick on a RB when our O-line was in shambles. I'm just a believer in getting your O-line fixed 1st before spending a high pick on a RB that won't be productive becuase of the line. We also kinda reached for Brown too, who i had as a late 2nd round pick becuase of his average recieving skills and inability to pass block. If you can't pass block on this team you won't get very many oppurtunities to prove yourself as a runner.
Pass Blocking- poor
recieving ability- average
running ability- good
When the O-line actually opens up a hole for him once he get into the second level he looks pretty good he looks fast and can break tackles. He just doesn't get a hole to run threw very often and has trouble shedding the 1st contact.

I'm suprised in the little of the game i watched, that Nate Solder looked pretty good!! I honestly thought he looked horrible in the game tape i watched of him in college.

I think Devan deserves to start over Pollack, he give a ton of effort and is a solid pass protector. Mike Pollack doesn't do anything good at the guard position, he can't pass protect or run block. The real wild card is to see if Diem can be a servicable guard becuase he's not a servicable tackle anymore. My opinion of what the O-line depth chart should be right now.
LT Castonzo, Link
LG Reitz, McClendon
C Saturday, Pollack
RG Devan, Diem
RT Ijalana, Link

I think you have to look at it a different way though. If the angle would have been good, the RB goes down for a loss of 3 yards, maybe more. The fact that he beat the guard that badly says a lot about his potential. Imagine that had been a pass play. Can you say, "Sack, loss of 7 yards."? Or better yet, the QB gets flushed out of the pocket into Frathis, who routinely strip balls from QB's. He got more penetration from the interior than I have seen from a Colt in a while, preseason or not. I'm very excited to see what this guy can bring to the table in the regular season.
That is true that it could of been easily been a 3 yard loss, it's just a 50/50 chance on which way the running back goes. Sometimes he will make the big play or a giant hole will open up for the RB.
-
Nevis is really good, but i noticed on one play that he beat the guard so quick that he was already in the backfield but had the wrong angle to tackle the running back. So the running back had a huge hole to run through and got close to ten yards on the play. That's the only problem that i can see with him.

For the guys you have listed on the bubble, im hoping Ricardo Mathews and Kyle Devan make the team.

Housh's stats are better than Gonzo's for the last 2 years. How do you say he's not better than someone who is chronically injured?
Healthy Gonzo > Healthy Houshmanzahdeh
I already stated that TJ would be a decent pick-up for depth but if Gonzo and Housh were both 100% Gonzo would smoke him.
-
Yeah I would be thrilled with the acquisition especially if Blair is hurt... Also noone knows if other injuries will happen to the WR core.. Personally he's better than Garçon & Gonzo so I don't see why anyone would be opposed... If the price, is right bring him in!!!!!
Of course he had a down year play with Flacco and the Ravens lol!!!! duh!!!!!
At this point in his career TJ is not better then Garcon and Gonzo, but i would be fine adding him for depth especially if White is hurt.
-
A plus that i heard from stampede blue about the CB situation is Kevin Thomas looked good in coverage!! Hopefully he can stay healthy and contribute this year.
-
I've heard some scouting reports that josh is a really good run blocker but not a great pass protector. This was coming out of college though, so i still don't know much about him.
-
Hopefully we can give a 6th or 7th round pick again to get an ok CB, like we did with Tryon. I'm sure there is a lot of other cb's on other teams that would be great in our system, thats being wasted somewhere else.
-
I would probably pick Ray Rice 1st. The ravens just signed the best FB in football that helped out Arian Foster last year. Plus Willis Mcgahee isn't there to steal touchdowns away anymore.
-
Thanks for the article Bayone!! I think we just need to trade or sign for another corner and guard. As for G, bringing in Brian Waters on a 1 or 2 year deal would be a good decision since that's one of the weekest spots on our team. I'm really excited about our Dt's and LB Ernie Sims, this should be a great year.

I remember last year when i said that jacob lacey was horrible and then i got attacked by almost everybody. I'm glad people are seeing the light now!! Powers is amazing and Justin Tryon is decent, I would welcome back Hayden if he came back at a reduced price since does an alright job when healthy.

I'm actually going to defend Donald Brown!! I don't know if it's bad luck or something but it seems like the O-line doesn't block well for him at all. I try to look back and see if he has any running lanes and i don't see much he could do any different. I'm just not talking about the pre-season it happened a lot last year too besides the Jaguar game. I do think that Addai and Carter should be ahead of him but he still deserves a roster spot.
