I think we're in a pretty good position this year.
3-4 QBs taken ahead of us, 2-4 Tackles, 2-3 WRs, Bowers, maybe a CB, maybe a DE, maybe a DT.
We're in great position for one of the top DEs, DTs, CBs and one of the top 2nd tier WRs.
Well I would rather have one of those top 3 WR prospects to fall or either Bowers at TE or Arnold at corner. If none are available I would want a trade down.

First of all I hope Indy at least tags Pittman soon and doesn’t just allow him to be a FA. That would be a big mistake. If he is franchised soon, do you think a tag and trade could be possible if Ballard doesn’t want to shell out 25 mil or so per season for him?
And what do you feel the Colts could get back in return for a tag and trade of MPJ? If they could get back a 1st or two 2nds from a bad team I’d consider it with the WR draft class this year.

What I learned is this team and in particular Richardson needs an elite TE. An elite move the chains weapon who’s very reliable for Richardson would be huge. We need Bowers.
We also need a better pass defense that makes the QB hold onto the ball longer and allowing the DL to get to them. This should be a make or break year for Bradley as DC.

This is a terrific draft for WRs. No thanks. Let’s keep our draft picks and keep building up this young team.

Does this hire make it more likely that we look at guys like Chop Robinson or Adisa Issac in the draft. Isaac could be a lot a Leo.
I don’t believe so. This team already has young pass rushers who weren’t fully developed coming out of college in Paye and Dayo. Plus the production from Chop wasn’t very impressive in college. Indy needs a 3rd quality DT more than another DE.

For example if brian thomas jr devontez walker are on the board and we pick devontez over brian thomas I will be highly upset
Would love Brian Thomas Jr in the early 2nd or a trade down into the late 1st to get him.
Walker could be had in round 3.

It is Dennard Wilson, he came from the Ravens. He was who Eagles fans wanted to succeed Gannon as DC, but when he did not get the DC job, he went to the Ravens as a defensive backs coach, had a heck of a year and now finally gets the DC position. Eagles aren't going to be happy with Vic Fangio either, is what I am thinking will happen eventually.
I think Shane Bowen of the Titans did a good job, we should bring that former DC to coach our DL, IMO. That was where the Titans' D typically shined when Shane Bowen was their DC under Vrabel.
Coming from someone who lives in Nashville and catches all the Titans games we don’t want Bowen on our staff as DL coach. Titans defense was only good when Jim Schwartz was on staff.

Do we have any update on the DL coach or any other coaches I’m missing that are vacant? Wish we could have got DL coach Terrell Williams from the Titans before he went to Detroit. On a side note the Titans seem to be making good coaching hires in Callahan and Denard Williams. Hope they botch the OL coach hire.

What’s the status on Jefferson in Minnesota? I’ve heard he’s yet to be extended. Would love dealing our 1st for him.

Draft the qb from Michigan in the 2nd either way we need a legit backup that can throw to every area of the field in case minshew is gone and Richardson can't stay healthy
Completely agree. I would be happy with getting McCarthy round 2 as a backup to Richardson and if he gets injured again. And if Richardson shows he could stay healthy JJ would be a very good trade asset if he shows good promise.

Chargers are hiring ravens guy
Glad to see them taking away from another AFC team instead of us. Now we need to snatch away Tee Martin to serve as some sort of passing game coordinator.

There's no chance we're drafting a QB day 1 or day 2 this season.
If Jayden Daniels were there with the 15th pick I would maybe consider it. Daniels could run Steichen's offense similar to how Hurts did. Richardson needs to show he can stay healthy before we know he's the guy longterm.

Yeah, honestly the EDGE rushers in the draft this year aren't as good as people think. The corners look pretty decent, the WRs look great, and I think we grab a WR or CB in the 1st round. I would personally grab a big name EDGE in FA on day 1 like Brian Burns and just have a great D-Line. We probably won't sign both Paye and Dayo back, and he would be great insurance in case we let one or both of them go next year.
I've said this for a while now, but I just want to get one elite defensive player in FA. We have our normal allotment of draft picks, but 7 picks is tough to get a lot of what you need. I want quality this year with some depth and draft picks to build around. Not just a bunch of depth where we hope the draft pays off.
With the class of WRs in this draft, I hope we can possibly land an Odunze at 15 or trade down for extra high picks and get a WR like Brian Thomas Jr or Xavier Worthy. I’m not as high on this corner or edge rush class at the top.

I like this better than another TE. Even though Bowers does look very good I still like what we saw out of Mallory.
I would much rather take the sure thing in Bowers, who gives Indy a bonafide playmaking TE, over another safety prospect.

Why would he leave for an OC position in Philly when he has that job here in Indy?

Seems like an easy fix trading away our P15 to Raiders for Maxx Crosby like we done with Buckner. Crosby also had a high 9 RAS but also would be insurance since Paye and Dayo’s contracts are up next

As much as I’d LOVE Crosby on the DL for the Colts, I still feel adding a top playmaker in the passing game or top shutdown corner is more important as Indy has some pieces already at DE.

I believe within the next few years one of his daughters will take his spot and become the new owner of the Colts. Hopefully he gets better.
He’s getting close to the point where he needs to step away.

Freeland is going to replicate this next year.
The patience paid off with Raimann. Clutch
Freeland only needs to be a very good swing tackle.

I honestly don't think Harrison is that much better than Odunze or Nabers. I'd wait until the first two (of Harrison, Nabers and Odunze) are gone and move up for the last guy. Possibly be content with Bowers if he's still available, but I can't really decide on that. Bowers is basically a WR occupying a TE spot - he's not much of a blocker. Is he worth a top 15 pick for being a WR?
Bowers can do it all at TE. He can block good enough to be effective. With proper coaching he could be as good a blocker as Kittle potentially.

Or would they consider trading Richardson if they thought Maye, Daniel’s, or Penix was a much better player. We know Williams is the real deal, but don’t see a way to get him. I would strongly consider it depending on the draft capital if that was the consensus.
Richardson has shown he can be a great NFL QB if he simply stays healthy. From his and Steichen’s comments recently I would hope he will have learned that protecting himself for the betterment of the team is vitally important. I still feel if he can be better about staying on the field consistently he can go toe to toe and even get the better of Stroud as Richardson has the higher ceiling and talent.
Indy now needs to surround him with playmakers in the passing game and add a legit top pass rusher to go after the opposing QB. That’s what should elevate the team into a consistent playoff squad.

Not arguing just convo
So you would take Bowers over a WR? We have not seen what Woods can be.
We have the top TE from the 2022 draft But we have yet to see what he can do. Due to injuries
Better idea to look at WR or any other position than TE??
I have my concerns about Woods. I feel like injured players always keep getting injured. It’s unfortunate but it’s also somewhat true. And I think Bowers is a potential superstar TE in the mold of George Kittle. Woods will never be that imo. And if Pittman is brought back which I hope he is, I feel Indy has 3 solid WRs as I expect Downs to get even better, and I believe more in Pierce when Richardson is the QB as he has a great deep ball.
I wouldn’t be opposed to adding another explosive WR by any means, I just feel Bowers would help the team more than if they were to add a Rome Odunze type WR.

I would rather just hope Brock Bowers falls to them at 15 or do a slight trade up for him or Nabers.

It’ll be even louder when Indy has their starting QB playing. He creates so much explosion on offense which gets the rest of the team and fan base going.

I am very surprised not one Colts player made the All-Pro team, especially on the OL, considering they had the 3rd ranked OL only allowing 15 sacks. Hopefully next year they use this as fuel.

Possible Free Agents (MERGE)
in NFL Draft, Scouting, and Free Agent Talk
Posted
Wasn’t sure if there was already a topic on this, but wanted to start talking free agency and who the Colts could target.
I wouldn’t mind bringing back Autry for the right price on a 1 or 2 year deal. Also would like a veteran safety brought in as well as corner.
