Today, NFL.com writer Schrager projects Colts move six slots up in a trade with Chicago, and selects LSU's Nabers.
The Cost - a future 2nd.
What an amazing trade that would be for Indy!

Jack Doyle was pretty good across the board.
If we’re looking to add a Jack Doyle type TE I would look at Cade Stover in the 4th round.

PC was oft-injured and wasn't any good, so that's not really a good example.
Glow WAS signed to an extension at one point. He didn't get a third contract because the OL was already getting big money.
Oke left in FA because Shaq (another Colts player re-signed to a big deal) was in his way, both positionally and financially. If Shaq wasn't here, Ballard brings him back.
Autry left to TEN but Ballard tried to bring him back.
It's like a handful of players (only a couple that were core players) vs. the many core players he has re-signed, especially those that he drafted. Whether he did it in March or the summer is just really just timing, not indicative of a reversal of anything.
Plus, the Colts FAs this year all entered the league in 2017/2018 (Ballard's first two years as GM), so they are just the first group of his core players to happen to be entering/nearing 3rd contracts. There is no other situation to really compare this to.
It's fine, we can just have to agree to disagree on this. But this is "we like our guys" 2.0.
See I actually heard from an ESPN reporter who covers the Titans that the Colts didn’t offer a contract to Autry. It was Turron Davenport who reported that.

The majority of fans think if we trade up for a player it’s a WR. It could also very well be for Dallas Turner.
I think that stat showed Turner is a guy Raheem Morris and the Falcons would want. They lack a pass rusher. If we move up to say 9-11 I think it’s for Nabers or Odunze.

I could see a trade back IF we end up picking a WR. Talent is insane this year to where there will be elite guys from all over the place at the position. But I’m also fine taking a WR or Bowers at 15 tooI’ve done numerous mock drafts on PFN to where I was able to trade down with Tampa at 26 and get their 2nd and 2025 1st. Then I would select AD Mitchell each time at 26.

Yeah I think it’s entirely possible Ballard wants to trade up for one of these elite WR1 prospects if they were to fall to the 9-11 range. Would dynamically change this passing attack and we would be in the conversation for one of the best WR cores which would obviously help Richardson.

Won't lie I like him as an athlete. I'm still figuring whether corner or safety is best for him. But I will say he is high IQ player with elite diagnosis skills. Definitely knows what's going on out there.
He’s a safety. I don’t want the Colts drafting a safety high as it’s not really a high impact position and as we’ve seen this offseason safeties aren’t really valued like they used to be. Unless you have a special player like Polomalu or Sean Taylor obviously.

Fair enough. But I think they need explosiveness on Offense. Whether that’s TE or WR, we need impact weapons. 2nd and 3rd round WRs haven’t really been impactful for us outside of Pittman. I’d like to take a shot high on WR. But I also don’t want a super reach. So I guess for me, depends on who’s on the board at 15
Agreed I really want an Odunze or Nabers on this offense. But I’d also be happy with Bowers. To get the WRs you may have to deal up to 9 to do so which I’m good with if you aren’t giving up a haul.

This is just my opinion, but Ballard has to come away with an impact explosive playmaker in the passing game to help Richardson in this draft. If a Nabers or Odunze were to be there at 9 or 10, I think you have to deal up to get them so long as you aren’t giving up a haul. Unless you are confident Bowers will be there at 15. You gotta score to keep up with Houston, and even the Titans made improvements in their weaponry in the passing game with Ridley.

I know, insane really. If AR doesn't pan out this year, Ballard may be gone.
As he should be. In my opinion AR5 has to save his job for him.

How do the Titans still have like 20 million more in cap space then the Colts after all the acquisitions they’ve made and the money committed to guys like Sneed, Ridley, and Cushenberry? Colts I believe only started with maybe 10 mil less than the TN before FA started.

There was discussion if the Colts would even activate Paye's 5th year option. Which I believe that decision does not have to be made for quite a while yet. I could definitely see Ballard taking a pass rusher. Turner may go earlier? But I am not convinced the Colts see Turner is the best at that position. Watch for Latu at 15.
a top tier OT should be in consideration, if available? Our line may gave improved a bit last year, but honestly, they were far from stellar
Turner is widely looked at as the best edge rusher in this draft. It would be a reach imo to draft Latu or Verse at 15.

I think AR can be everything we hoped and we still lose with how bad this colts secondary is. That alone could get him canned.
Colts secondary won’t be able to come close to slowing down the Houston passing game now.

Texans got a taste of success and decided to go all in. We’ll see if it works out for them.
Wish Ballard would make some calculated risks like Houston has. Unless he’s just not sold on Richardson like I said.

Watching Houston load up around Stroud while he’s on a rookie QB deal while Ballard is not is telling to me. I don’t think Ballard is fully sold on Richardson the way the Houston GM is sold on Stroud.

Alright I didn’t think that would happen but welcome back Blackmon.
I would still sign a vet safety like Diggs or Simmons as we have so much youth back there to start opposite Blackmon. Then I’d go out and sign CB Ahkello Witherspoon and draft someone like Cam Hart in the 4th.

I think they will view him as a corner and he would be our new punt returner as well. If he has a great workout on April 8th as I’m expecting I can see him as our pick at 15. If Bowers is at 15 or the top ER then I think they would get the nod but I don’t see that happening. I don’t see WR either because I think the top three will be gone and I don’t see Ballard giving up on Pierce so soon without seeing him really play with AR. So no receiver in round 1. So for me today April 2nd my guess at pick 15 is Cooper Dejean.
Please no.

That's my trade that I've been looking at, although it would cost sending #82 back as well.
It is actually even points on trade chart.. whatever that means.
#15 + #82
For
#27 + #35
Would much rather get Arizona’s 2025 1st over their 35th pick in that deal. Then at 27 get AD Mitchell.

I think it's possible the Colts are going to take a FS high in this draft. Maybe Day 1 or Day 2
I don't think it will be a corner because they like some of the young guys
who are already on the roster. Corner in this draft I think they will just add
quality depth competition.
What a waste of a pick if they take a safety high. This safety class is nothing special.
-
Why in the world is Ballard waiting to sign a safety, most notably Blackmon? He’s not gonna be any cheaper if they wait another few weeks so just sign him already to guarantee we have a starting caliber player back there before someone else does. Makes no sense to me.

Think it's going to be Bowers or WR, but I hope it's Bowers or DE/DT. WR in the 2nd.
Hoping it’s one of Odunze, Bowers, Nabers, or MHJ. The later 2 are obviously the least likely to be there. If all are gone trade down a few times, accumulate extra high picks, and get AD Mitchell.

In my opinion if we are staying at 15 it’s because one on Nabers, Bowers, Rome or MHJ dropped to that spot.
Otherwise I see the FO trading down at least once to the bottom of the 1st or completely into day two……
No other offensive weapon has the upside of those 4 and worthy of a top half of the first round pick…..
Couldn’t agree more. And that’s the way I want it. If one of those stud offensive players isn’t there at 15, I would want to trade down multiple times and still land an AD Mitchell. As for corner or safety, I think the value is in rounds 3 and 4 to address those areas of need. I’d still rather get a veteran safety to go along with resigning Blackmon versus drafting yet again another prospect there.

I was never against corner at 15. What I was displeased about is some kind of vet as insurance because none of of corners are proven. Now I would rather have a offensive weapon but always been ok with a CB.
I am. I’m very much against corner or safety round 1 or 2. I absolutely hate drafting based off need especially when there will be better players available at other positions most likely. And I think there’s good value at corner in rounds 3 and 4.

Is it possible the Chargers go for an OT at 5? Or even better - is it possible they are willing to move back? Interesting...
I truly hope they go LT with Alt at 5 just to screw over the Titans lol.
Colts have the 15th pick in the draft. (MERGE)

I mostly agree but I could see Dallas Turner having an immediate impact with possibly 8 sacks as a rookie. Really hope Odunze falls to us or one of the big 3 WR1s falls to 10 overall, well within striking range to get them without having to give up too much.
