The only thing about the Titans that worries me is their interior DL. Simmons and Sweat are going to be a problem.

Sweat could easily bust with his off the field and sometimes work ethic issues. Plus he’s too heavy to stay on the field consistently.

Agreed. I’m starting to warmup to the idea of trading down in the first. Maybe even as far as 29 with lions. That should net us an extra 2nd. If we can’t get Q Mitchell, Bowers, Nabers, etc. The value says trade back. I hate it but in the end we honestly just have too many holes. Maybe one day we’ll be able to afford the luxury of trading up for a stud.

If Ballard trades all the way down to 29 and only gets a 2nd out of the deal he should be fired. You have to get a haul to move that far.

I have said that if the Colts trade up it would be for Mitchell and not wr.

Would be a stupid move to move up for a corner considering there’s aren’t any sure fire shut down corners in this draft. There’s no one who’s as good as prospect as Sauce Gardner and Patrick Surtain were.

I think Bowers would be the only (realistic) reason we stay at 15. I feel pretty certain if he's not there we trade back.

I would add Odunze and Turner as well. Both players would be great additions as well as Bowers.

    I thought of Dejean.

This is just me but I would be hugely disappointed if the Colts went with DeJean at any point in round 1. He projects best at safety in the NFL and that position has devalued over the last few years.

My best guess is Brian Thomas Jr. is the target. He fits the deep threat and YAC Ballard mentions.
Depending on how the draft falls Colts can land land him with a small trade up, stay at 15 or a trade down

PFF draft simulator suggest Colts can trade down to 20-22 pick up an additional second rounder and draft Thomas and then land a db and ol in the second.

If Brian Thomas can run all the routes and be an all around WR I’d be completely happy with trading down to the early 20s if they feel Thomas will still be there, and pick up an extra 2nd and possibly a little more in the process.

Brian Thomas Jr is a lot like Randy Moss (the athlete) to me. I think he is more athletic than Pierce in terms of his ability to get extra yards after the catch and I like his hands . My only question is if we still like Pierce how will we employ Thomas personnel wise in year 1? Because he isn't playing special teams and he is mostly an outside guy versus a guy you play all over the line. To me he and Pierce do all the same stuff but I could be wrong. And I'm not sure about Thomas contested catch game bc he usually has a considerable step on everybody. Specifically Superman what is your take bc I know you like him pretty good. Because of our vertical scheme in my opinion getting him would be just as good for us as any of the top 3 that everybody else talks about. And you won't have to trade all your picks away.

    Pierce

    Thomas Jr

    Downs

    Dulin

    Pittman

I do think with decent confidence he will be there at 15 when we pick. You pretty much can sit right there and let one of him or Bowers fall in your lap.

If neither of the two are there I'd say trade back.

For me it depends on how the Colts view Thomas in terms of his route running ability. If he can run numerous routes well he can be a great all around WR. If his routes are limited to deep routes similar to what Pierce is best at, then it’s probably a wasted pick.

This presser has reinforced how I feel about this draft and what we might do.  This is one of the most “it can go any way” drafts I’ve been apart of as a colts fan.  Based on our needs, the strengths of this draft, and where we pick, there are numerous ways this thing can go.  Some takeaways I got from this presser:

    - Getting AR a weapon:  I think after this presser, we are definitely getting an AR another weapon.  I’m not sure if it’s going to be with the first or second pick.  Bowers to the colts doesn’t seem likely to me now.  Ballard really likes our tight end group and I can’t see him investing a high pick into the tight end room given what we have.  But either way, either the first or second pick will be a weapon.

    - Anything is possible:  we may trade up, stay put, or even trade back.  It all depends on how this draft goes, who they have on their board, and where they have them rated.  I can see us trading up if one or two of the top 3 WRs get to pick 9.  I can see staying put if our trade up options are gone but someone looks to be falling to us.  I can also see us trading back if we have first round grades on certain players who are left and can be chosen later in the first round.  I can see all of these things happening and it really all depends on how things play out.  Personally, I’d hope we trade up if one of the top 3 WRs get close enough and doesn’t cost us too much.  But either way, we’re in a unique position and this can go a lot of ways.

I hope Ballard doesn’t pass on Bowers if he’s there at 15. He’s not just a TE, he’s a do it all weapon this team and Richardson could use. As for WRs, the drop off from 1st round WRs and mid 2nd round WRs is pretty drastic to me, so I’d prefer just going all out and getting an elite one if one were to fall to 9 or 10.

Everyone quick! What are some questions you guys would like answered? I’ll reply to him

What is the best addition that could be made to give Richardson the best chance to take the next step to becoming the Colts franchise QB? Most would agree that is the most important thing to accomplish this offseason.

  10. Would it make more sense if Ballard were to trade up to do it before the draft or while it’s going on? Would the compensation needed to give up be more or less if done before? Obviously Ballard would need to know a certain player or two would be available at whatever spot he traded up to if he did so before the draft. I know those trades don’t happen too often but just was curious.

If the defensive  player we pick doesn't have a rookie season like Dwight freeney or darious Leonard I don't  want them at 15. Who ever we pick needs to be an immediate impact player. I know Brian thomas jr, odunze, Harrison  or nabors  can be that. Not sure about any of the edge guys or cbs

I mostly agree but I could see Dallas Turner having an immediate impact with possibly 8 sacks as a rookie. Really hope Odunze falls to us or one of the big 3 WR1s falls to 10 overall, well within striking range to get them without having to give up too much.

PC was oft-injured and wasn't any good, so that's not really a good example.

Glow WAS signed to an extension at one point. He didn't get a third contract because the OL was already getting big money.

Oke left in FA because Shaq (another Colts player re-signed to a big deal) was in his way, both positionally and financially. If Shaq wasn't here, Ballard brings him back.

Autry left to TEN but Ballard tried to bring him back.

It's like a handful of players (only a couple that were core players) vs. the many core players he has re-signed, especially those that he drafted. Whether he did it in March or the summer is just really just timing, not indicative of a reversal of anything.

Plus, the Colts FAs this year all entered the league in 2017/2018 (Ballard's first two years as GM), so they are just the first group of his core players to happen to be entering/nearing 3rd contracts. There is no other situation to really compare this to.

It's fine, we can just have to agree to disagree on this. But this is "we like our guys" 2.0.

See I actually heard from an ESPN reporter who covers the Titans that the Colts didn’t offer a contract to Autry. It was Turron Davenport who reported that.

The majority of fans think if we trade up for a player it’s a WR.  It could also very well be for Dallas Turner.

I think that stat showed Turner is a guy Raheem Morris and the Falcons would want. They lack a pass rusher. If we move up to say 9-11 I think it’s for Nabers or Odunze.
